Veteran LB Dan Morgan has retired from the NFL just 2 months after signing a new contract to play for the Saints. Morgan, who played for the Carolina Panthers since being drafted in the 2000 NFL Draft, missed the last 13 games of the 2007 season with a partially torn achilles tendon. New Orleans coach Sean Payton had this to say, "When we signed Dan, he was committed to making a fresh start, and he was making every effort to rehabilitate the leg injury that he suffered last year. But it wasn't responding as well as he had hoped it would. We wish him well in his continued recovery, and he will be remembered for the excellent player he was during his career."
The Huddle Take: Morgan has been hampered by several different injuries over the last few seasons but was certainly a difference maker for the Panthers early in his career. He was likely going to be used more in a backup role for the Saints while he was rehabbing from his achilles injury from last season.
