Pittsburgh Steelers NT Casey Hampton (knee, elbow) has not played in the preseason, but he went through his most extensive practice Monday, Aug. 27, since coming off the Physically-Unable-to-Perform (PUP) list. 'It felt good to be out there,' said Hampton. 'I didn't practice the whole camp so it felt good to be out there.' Head coach Mike Tomlin said he was uncertain if Hampton would see snaps in the preseason finale. However, Hampton vowed to be ready for the Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos.
Huddle Up: Hampton has long been a lynchpin in the Steelers' 3-4 scheme, but he'll be 35 when the regular season opens and Pittsburgh isn't counting on him being able to take the majority of snaps at NT. Third-year man Steve McLendon has been starting this preseason, and the Steelers are fairly pleased with what they've seen.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated DT Casey Hampton (knee, elbow) from the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Huddle Up: A big plus (literally) for Pittsburgh, which is counting on the 6-foot-1, 325-pound Hampton to man the middle of its defensive front in the 3-4. Hampton played in 13 games a year ago, but will need to spelled on a regular basis this year at age 35. Believe it or not, the Steelers wound up near the bottom of the fantasy team defense rankings in 2011 and will be counting on some aging performers (Hampton, LB James Harrison and S Troy Polamalu) to have any shot at a bounce-back fantasy campaign.
