The Clarion-Ledger reports free-agent RB Deuce McAllister is planning to play football again. He spoke with scouts from 10 to 12 different NFL teams at Duke's NFL senior day. McAllister said, "There's definitely some interest there. Everybody wants to know how it's going." He is planning to start running again in two weeks, and hoping to work out for NFL teams prior to the 2009 NFL Draft.
The Huddle Take: Thanks to the dual ravages of time and multiple knee surgeries McAllister is no longer capable of being a feature back in the NFL. However, he may be capable of giving a team 5-10 carries a game in short-yardage situations, obviously at a reduced rate from the monster contract he signed with the Saints a few years back. Any team that doesn't find such a back in the draft could be willing to bring Deuce in for a look-see.

Confirming a previous report, NewOrleansSaints.com reports the New Orleans Saints have announced the release of RB Deuce McAllister.
The Huddle Take: It was only a matter of time and now the Saints have released McAllister which clears the way for Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas to share carries in the New Orleans backfield. Expect both runners to play a more prominent role in 2009 with Thomas becoming a more likely sleeper candidate in fantasy leagues.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the Saints will likely announce within the next couple of weeks that they will part ways with RB Deuce McAllister. McAllister has a $7.3 million cap hit for this coming season. Head coach Sean Payton also clearly believes RB Pierre Thomas is a better fit for the team's offense at this stage.
The Huddle Take: There's no question Deuce isn't the back he was before having surgery on both of his knees. However, given his popularity with the Saints' fan base it wouldn't be at all surprising if he was asked about taking a pay cut and a reduced role before being given his outright release.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports Saints RB Deuce McAllister could be released or have his contract restructured. McAllister will count $7.3 million against the team's salary cap in 2009, but the team would save more than $4 million in cap savings by releasing him. McAllister has indicated he would be willing to restructure his contract to remain with the team in a lesser role.
The Huddle Take: McAllister is a fan favorite in New Orleans, but on two rebuilt knees he's nowhere near the back he used to be. And with Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush and the New Orleans passing game carrying the offense, there's little question he's looking at a significantly reduced role. If he's willing to take a corresponding pay cut he could return to the Saints, but they also may wish to use the roster space for someone a little more versatile.

The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister rejoined the team Saturday, Dec. 6, after his four-game suspension was blocked by a federal judge. He said he is hopeful of playing during Week 14 after missing practice Wednesday through Friday.
The Huddle Take: For what it is worth, Deuce may play. The production he's given overall this year has been minimal, and with Bush back and Thomas filling in nicely, don't expect much from The Duece.

ESPN.com reports New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's anti-doping policy. He is eligible to return to the team for the postseason if they qualify.
The Huddle Take: Well, we knew this was coming and now it's here. Doesn't seem very fair that McAllister is now sidelined for diet pills and Matt "that's not my cocaine" Jones plays on. But that's the NFL for ya. While Deuce has scored four times in the past five weeks, his touches have been limited - getting only six per game over the past month. With Reggie Bush returning to action, look for him and Pierre Thomas to handle the workload in the backfield now.

The Biloxi Sun-Herald reports the New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister's role in the offense will continue to dwindle. McAllister, as reported, set the team's franchise touchdown record during a Week 12 win over the Green Bay Packers.
The Huddle Take: McAllister's days in The Big Easy are pretty much done. The team was ready to part ways before the season started but didn't, however it is likely they will after the season. Deuce will always be known for his enormous potential that was sapped by too many injuries. Feel free to drop him from your rosters.
