New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said he would be open to restructuring his contract if it would help the team's salary cap situation. 'I am always willing to consider anything that will help the team or the cap situation,' Brees said. It is not known at this point, however, if the Saints have approached Bress to discuss his contract. Brees' 2013 cap figure is $17.4 million, highest on the team.

Huddle Up: QB restructures are mostly definitely en vogue around the league, and the cash-strapped Saints may very well follow the lead of the Pats (Tom Brady) and Steelers (Ben Roethlisberger) and take Brees up on his offer.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees will replace Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) on the NFC Pro Bowl roster.

Huddle Up: Brees has been a fantasy Pro Bowler all along, leading all fantasy QBs with 437 points (Huddle Performance) with 10 300-yard-plus games and 11 or more contests with 3 or more TDs.

Posted: 11/30/2012 11:41am et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees saw his streak of 54-consecutive games of throwing a touchdown pass come to an end Thursday, Nov. 29, against the Atlanta Falcons. Brees threw 50 times, connecting on 28 of them, and passed for 341 yards, but failed to put one into the end zone. He did hit RB Darren Sproles for a passing touchdown, but the play was flagged for offensive pass interference on TE Jimmy Graham. Brees threw five interceptions during the game, which was a career high. Following the game, Brees said he has to hold himself accountable for the team's losses the past two weeks.

Huddle Up: Brees certainly left fantasy owners stunned with his substandard showing against the Falcons. The hope for those owners is that Brees has done enough already to get them into the playoffs; the hope for non-Brees owners is that they won't have to face Brees in the postseason.

Posted: 11/30/2012 12:06am et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees completed 28-of-50 passes for 341 yards but was intercepted a career-high 5 times and failed to throw a TD pass for the first time in 55 games.

Huddle Up: Condolences to those fantasy owners who were counting on Brees guiding them into the postseason as he endured one of the worst games of his Saints' career. Aside from the turnovers, Brees and the Saints also mismanged the clock at the end of the first half with time running out on them with possession inside the Falcons' 5-yard line. In whole, it's a major reason why the Saints have slipped to 5- 7 and are on the outside looking in at the NFC playoff race with 4 games to go.

Posted: 11/15/2012 1:31pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is 6-0 against the Oakland Raiders with 1,248 yards passing, 13 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Huddle Up: The Silver & Black don't appear to be in any kind of position this week to reverse their fortunes, either, ranking sixth in terms of the most fantasy points allowed to opposing QBs. And with Oakland's pass-happy Carson Palmer taking aim at the Saints' last-ranked aerial D, expect points aplenty Sunday afternoon at the O.co Coliseum.

Posted: 10/21/2012 10:45pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees now has 16 career games with four or more touchdown passes and 300 or more passing yards, tying Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino for most in NFL history.

Huddle Up: Another game, another NFL mark for the amazing Brees, who threw for 313 yards and 4 TDs Sunday -- in the first half. Brees finished 27-of-37 for 377 yards and the 4 TDs -- all going to different receivers.

Posted: 10/7/2012 11:48pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees hooked up with WR Devery Henderson for a 40-yard touchdown in the first quarter of the Week 5 game against the San Diego Chargers. It was his 48th consecutive game with a touchdown throw, breaking the NFL record previously held by Hall of Fame QB Johnny Unitas.

Huddle Up: A truly historic moment for Brees, but more importantly the Saints were able to get their first win in five tries and the Saints' QB delivered another big-time performance for his fantasy owners, completing 29-of-45 passes for 370 yards and 4 TDs.

Posted: 10/3/2012 11:56pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees requested that suspended head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and linebackers coach Joe Vitt be allowed to attend the Week 5 game against the San Diego Chargers, as he attempts to break the NFL record with a touchdown pass in 48 consecutive games. The NFL granted permission for the suspended coaches to attend. 'Commissioner (Roger) Goodell has granted that permission. Coaches Payton and Vitt and Mickey Loomis will be permitted to watch the game in a private area of the stadium and will have no contact with the team,' the NFL said Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a statement.

Huddle Up: The struggling Saints may still be looking for their first win entering Week 5, but fantasy-wise, it's been status quo with Brees piling up points once again as a top-three fantasy QB. He's coming off his best performance of the season (446 yards, 3 TDs vs. the Packers in Week 4), and while Brees can't realistically be expected to duplicate those figures Sunday, there's no doubt he'll be amped up with NFL history on the line and his former team and the suspended Payton in the house on Football Night in America.

Posted: 10/1/2012 1:15am et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games, tying Hall of Fame QB Johnny Unitas for the NFL record. Brees will look to break the record in Week 5 against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

Huddle Up: It was another fab fantasy day for Brees, who threw for 446 yards and a trio of TDs, but it wound up being another downer for the QB and his Saints' teammates who fell to 0-4. He'll get a get a chance at a win and the record next Sunday night against his former team.

Posted: 9/20/2012 3:39pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 20.

Huddle Up: It looks like there are no worries for Brees, who appeared to come up a little gimpy after a play against the Panthers last week. Of greater concern are the Saints' 0-2 start and the QB's 4 interceptions so far.

Posted: 8/4/2012 12:01am et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is only expected to play a series or two in the first preseason game Sunday, Aug. 5.

Huddle Up: No big deal. The Saints play five exhibitions, and Brees figures to see a little extra work adjusting to a new offensive protocol with head coach Sean Payton suspended all season. Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael is still there, though, and once a few tweaks are made, expect another elite fantasy season from Brees.

Posted: 7/13/2012 2:28pm et

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees on a five-year deal worth $100 million. Brees will make $40 million in the first year of the contract and is guaranteed $60 million in the first three years of the deal.

Huddle Up: The $60 million guarantee is believed to be a record, but few players have meant more to their team, their franchise, and their city than Brees has to the Saints. The only shock is that it took this long for the two sides to reach an agreement.

Posted: 7/11/2012 1:34am et

If QB Drew Brees does not have a long-term contract in place by Monday, July 16, by the 4 p.m. ET deadline, he has no plans to sign his franchise tender and report to training camp, according to league and team sources. Brees is seeking an average of $20.5 million per year, sources said, while the team has offered him a deal which would average $19.25 million per season, according to a team source.

Huddle Up: Surely it won't come to this. We don't care how elite a quarterback is, he simply can't miss a significant portion of training camp and expect the usual results. Especially when the head coach/offensive mastermind is banned from contact with anyone in the organization...

Posted: 7/3/2012 8:05pm et

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees won his franchise tag grievance with the NFL.

Huddle Up: The Sports Xchange reports: "The ruling by arbitrator Stephen Burbank means that if Brees and the Saints cannot reach a multi-year deal before the July 16 deadline and Brees plays out the final year of his contract, New Orleans cannot use the franchise tag on him beyond 2013. And the franchise number for 2013 would call for a 144 percent raise to $23,574,240, according to ESPN."

Posted: 6/27/2012 9:45am et

The NFLPA recently submitted a letter to commissioner Roger Goodell regarding the contract impasse between the New Orleans Saints and QB Drew Brees. The players' association asked the league to launch a probe into whether the Saints were acting in good faith in negotiations with Brees. Some within the NFLPA feel that Brees' work on behalf of the union last year might be working against him. He was one of the name plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the league during the lockout. The NFL declined comment on the story.

Huddle Up: The Saints have had one of the more bizarre offseasons in recent history. Brees and the Saints have until July 16 to agree to a long-term deal or he must play under his $16.3m franchise tender (Oh, the horror!). 'If the league doesn't start an investigation before the July 16 deadline, the NFLPA will file a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board,' reports CBSSports.com.

Posted: 5/29/2012 10:54pm et

The NFL Players Association asked an arbitrator Tuesday, May 29, to determine whether New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has had the franchise tag placed on him for a second time, according to sources. The Saints placed their exclusive rights tag on Brees earlier this offseason, and the San Diego Chargers placed the tag on Brees in 2005 after his rookie contract expired. The sources said the union is seeking a decision and/or clarification regarding the league's policy that states a second franchise tag is a 120 percent bump from the first tag, and the third tag is a 144 percent increase.

Huddle Up: It seems like the Saints would try to wash some of the "Bounty" stink off by just paying their greatest player in franchise history. All this tag nonsense is no unnecessary. Brees and agent Tom Condon want around $21 million per season over the next three years. Heck, Peyton Manning was originally set to receive $23 million per season over the first three years of his 2011 Colts extension. Just get it done!
