Free-agent WR Chad Johnson was arrested in Florida for violating his probation. He failed to report to his probation officer on two occasions and failed to show proof of enrollment in a domestic violence education class.
Huddle Up: Remember when Johnson used to be Ocho Cinco? Remember when he used to be good? Remember when he used to be relevant?
Posted: 9/18/2012 6:44pm et
Contrary to speculative reports and vague Twitter posts, the Philadelphia Eagles did not conduct a workout with free-agent WR Chad Johnson on Tuesday.
Huddle Up: Sorry, Ochocinco fantasy fans but your man still remains a free agent in waiting.
Posted: 8/15/2012 10:56pm et
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the team has not had any conversations about the possibility of pursuing free-agent WR Chad Johnson (Dolphins).
Huddle Up: It will only take one interested team for Johnson to get another NFL shot, but expect most squads to fall into line with the Cowboys. Johnson's in-game antics always were tolerable because he was producing on the field, but now he's generating headlines for his disappointing season in New England (career-low 15 catches) and his ill-timed arrest on domestic-violence charges.
Posted: 8/12/2012 9:05pm et
Updating a previous report, the Miami Dolphins released WR Chad Johnson Sunday, Aug. 12. The release comes on the heels of an arrest for an alleged domestic violence incident over the weekend.
Huddle Up: It turned out to be a short stay in South Beach for the 12th-year wideout, who lasted one preseason game with the Dolphins. Johnson was arrested Saturday after allegedly head-butting his wife during an argument, and that was enough for Miami and new coach Joe Philbin. This arrest, coupled with Johnson's disappointing 15-catch season with the Patriots a year ago, have put Johnson's NFL future in doubt.
Posted: 8/11/2012 10:18pm et
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday, Aug. 11, and charged with midemeanor domestic violence.
Huddle Up: A somewhat surprising development considering that Johnson has been known for on-field antics rather than off-field incidents. No matter what happens legally, it can't help Johnson's cause with the 12th-year wideout battling for a roster spot in Miami. Johnson had a career-low 15 receptions for 276 yards and a TD in a highly disappointing season with the Patriots last season and has plenty to prove with his new team.
Posted: 7/24/2012 12:17am et
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco was in a courthouse Monday, July 23, for a hearing finalizing a process that allowed him to legally change his name back to Johnson. He originally changed his name to Ochocinco in 2008.
Huddle Up: What are the Dolphins going to do with all those Ochocinco jerseys? Ocho... uh, Johnson is expected to make the receiver-poor Miami roster, but given their QB issues and Johnson's declining productivity he won't be making many fantasy rosters on draft day.
Posted: 7/3/2012 7:38pm et
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco said Tuesday, July 3, that he plans to play in the NFL for several more seasons. 'I'm going to play 'til I'm 40 years old, and this year I'm going to show the world I can,' Ochocinco said.
Huddle Up: Let's play around with some numbers. Suppose Ochocinco played two more years and tacked on 800 and 600 yards, respectively. That would give him 12,459 career receiving yards, right up around 16th all-time behind Irving Fryar and Art Monk. With 100 more catches he'd end up with 866, 15th-all-time behind Torry Holt and Keenan McCardell. Hall of Fame? Nope, but a very outstanding career.
Posted: 6/19/2012 8:30pm et
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco looked in shape and impressive during organized team activities Tuesday, June 19, while working with the second team offense. 'He definitely has a lot of ability left,' rookie QB Ryan Tannehill said. 'Today was the first day he really flashed.'
Huddle Up: A couple months ago Ochocinco was tweeting about his quest to bulk up to 225 lbs but apparently that was just talk. If Ochocinco -- normally around 195 lbs -- was anywhere near 225 we'd be hearing about how slow he was. Seriously, the guy has a chance to start for the Dolphins. They might consider Ochocinco lining up across from Brian Hartline, with Davone Bess remaining in the slot.
Posted: 6/12/2012 8:54pm et
Miami Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco will receive the veteran's minimum of $925,000 for his one-year deal. However, he can double that figure to just over $2 million through incentives, but he'll need to haul in 80 catches in order to do so. He caught only 15 balls last year. There is no guaranteed money in the deal.
Huddle Up: Peter King reports Ochocinco can double his earnings with incentives like catching at least 80 passes, etc. Money is no issue for Ochocinco at this stage in his career, and we're wondering if any real motivation remains either.
Posted: 6/12/2012 1:35am et
The Miami Dolphins signed free-agent WR Chad Ochocinco (Patriots) to a one-year deal Monday, June 11.
Huddle Up: Ochocinco was born in Miami and starred at Miami Beach High School. It's probably fate that he ends his career with the Dolphins. Ticket sales will surge, and he actually has a chance to start for this team. Aside from maybe Cleveland, no other team is as desperate for receiver help.
Posted: 6/7/2012 6:11pm et
The New England Patriots have released WR Chad Ochocinco. The team tried to trade him but released him when they could not find a trade partner.
Huddle Up: An amazing fall from grace. Ochocinco averaged 92 catches, 1374 yards and nine TDs from 2003-2007. He signed with New England as a healthy 33-year old and should have had a couple 1,000-yard seasons left in him. He was on the field for barely 25 percent of New England's snaps and was usually a decoy anyway. He'll get another job but won't even be a No. 3 WR unless that team is completely desperate at wideout. Miami and Cleveland come to mind...
