NewOrleansSaints.com reports New Orleans Saints PK John Carney became the fourth player in NFL history to reach 2,000 career points when he kicked a 46-yard field goal in the first quarter Week 7.
The Huddle Take: The 45-year-old Carney has extended his career the past couple of seasons by stepping in for injured and/or suspended kickers, then refusing to give up the gig when the original kicker returns. For the moment he's holding off Garrett Hartley, though a shanked extra point in the Saints' win over Miami might put that role in jeopardy.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports Saints PK John Carney said the team has indicated that he will remain with the team after the team's bye week even though PK Garrett Hartley will return from his four-game suspension.
The Huddle Take: This could develop into a very frustrating situation for fantasy owners who have been riding Carney for the past month—as well as those who stashed Hartley on their roster in hopes he'd get the job once he returned. The two-kicker scenario might make both players unusable for fantasy purposes, unless you have the roster space to carry both and want to spend valuable pregame time tracking which (if either) will be inactive on game day.

The Associated Press reports New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin may activate PK Lawrence Tynes for the team's playoff game. Tynes would handle kickoffs while PK John Carney would attempt field goals. Carney's kickoffs have gotten shorter and shorter in the second half of the season. In the final eight games, the average starting field position for opponents have never been less than their own 30-yard line, and recently the starts has been closer to the 35-yard line.
The Huddle Take: Giants' kickers were fantasy gold this season, but you had to pay attention to the inactives list to see if Tynes would be horning in on Carney's action. If you have Carney in a fantasy playoff league you should be safe, though Tynes could swoop in and take any longer field goal tries.
