Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith's three-year deal is worth $10.5 million and will include a $3.5 million signing bonus.

Huddle Up: Smith will give Joe Flacco an alternative to Torrey Holt. He's not quite as big as Anquan Boldin, but Smith is every bit as tough and should flourish as a WR2 rather than being the only passing game option as he was in Carolina.

There is mutual interest between the Baltimore Ravens and free-agent WR Steve Smith (Ravens), but a source said that nothing is imminent Thursday, March 13.

Huddle Up: The Ravens will have some heady competition for the veteran wideout with the Seahawks, Patriots and Chargers among the other teams reportedly interested in Smith.

Posted: 3/13/2014 1:38pm et

The Carolina Panthers officially released WR Steve Smith on Thursday, March 13.

Huddle Up: Smith's brilliant 13-year run in Carolina is over after the Panthers were unable to swing a trade, and now the soon-to-be 35-year-old is free to sign with anyone. The Ravens, who could use another wideout, are the favorites.

Posted: 2/20/2014 10:11pm et

Carolina Panthers general manager David Gettleman did not rule out the possibility of parting ways with WR Steve Smith this offseason. 'Steve's had a great career, and the bottom line is, it's part of the evaluation process.' Smith is scheduled to receive $4 million guaranteed next season with a $3 million bonus.

Huddle Up: Smith, who will turn 35 in May, saw his reception and yardage total drop for the 3rd straight season and failed to pace Carolina in receiving for the first time since 2004. Still, Smith has been the Panthers' heart and soul for more than a decade, and it would be a shock to see him wearing another uniform.

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith caught 4 passes for 74 yards and a TD Sunday, Jan. 12 in a 23-10 NFC divisional playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Huddle Up: Smith, coming back after missing Week 17 with a knee injury, started strong but failed to catch a pass in the second half as the Niners took control. He very well could enter next season as the Panthers' No. 1 WR, but he'll turn 35 in May and you'll likely start to see his numbers decline.

Posted: 1/12/2014 12:35pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) is active for the Divisional Round playoff game Sunday, Jan. 12 vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

Huddle Up: Smith will play after missing the final regular-season finale and an up-and-down week at practice. He won't be 100 percent, but there can be no doubting the veteran wideout's heart and toughness.

Posted: 1/11/2014 12:55pm et

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) was limited in practice and is questionable for the team's divisional round game.

Huddle Up: Smith isn't 100 percent, but he's expected to play through his injury against the 49ers. Hurt, with a tough defense and coming off a sluggish season... that's not exactly a recipe for fantasy success.

Posted: 1/10/2014 12:57pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) is in full pads during the walkthrough Friday, Jan. 10.

Huddle Up: It's just a walkthrough so Smith isn't out of the woods yet, but his being in full gear suggests he'll at least give it a go in the Panthers' playoff opener this weekend.

Posted: 1/9/2014 3:49pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) said things did not go as well as he had hoped Thursday, Jan. 9 in practice. Smith said he went from 71 percent participation Wednesday to 57 percent in practice Thursday.

Huddle Up: Things are trending the wrong way for Smith and the Panthers with Sunday's game now a day closer. See what the veteran WR can do Friday.

Posted: 1/8/2014 12:45pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) is expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Jan. 8, according to a league source. Smith has vowed to play in the NFC Divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Jan. 12.

Huddle Up: Smith may not get much practice time in this week, but it's tough to see him not making it to the field this weekend for the Panthers' playoff opener.

Posted: 1/7/2014 7:23pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) said how much he is able to do in practice will dictate how much he is able to do in the team's divisional round game.

Huddle Up: With the Panthers' bye last week, Smith has essentially been out the last month, and his return would be a much-needed addition to a Panthers' offense that struggles at times to put up points. Definitely see how the practice week goes for the veteran wideout.

Posted: 1/4/2014 10:41pm et

Carolina Panthers QB Steve Smith (knee) has done most of his rehab work indoors, but head coach Ron Rivera said Friday, Jan. 3, that he hopes to have Smith on the field next week and playing in the Divisional Round playoff game Sunday, Jan. 12. Smith has been doing treadmill, elliptical and underwater treadmill work, but he has not yet said he will be ready for the playoff game.

Huddle Up: Smith has taken advantage of the extra week off, with all indications pointing towards him being available when the Panthers open the 2014 playoffs next weekend.

Posted: 1/3/2014 5:11pm et

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera expects to have WR Steve Smith (knee), RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) and DT Colin Cole (calf) return to practice Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Huddle Up: Good to know if you're drafting in a fantasy playoffs league where you pick all the players this week, as Smith is still the top target among Carolina wideouts.

Posted: 12/22/2013 6:46pm et

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) will have an MRI Monday, Dec. 23, after leaving the Week 16 game against the New Orleans Saints due to a knee injury. It is believed that it is not an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Huddle Up: Hopefully he will be OK, but Smith might be out this week. Keep an eye on his injury situation.

Posted: 12/19/2013 4:20pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (dislocated finger) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 19. Head coach Ron Rivera is not concerned and is expecting him to play in Week 16.

Huddle Up: Smith hauled in a Week 14 scoring reception -- his first in 7 games -- but is coming off a disappointing Week 15 (3-20). He should be primed for a big game Sunday in the showdown against the Saints.

Posted: 11/28/2013 4:08pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 28.

Huddle Up: Likely just a maintenance day for the 34-year-old Smith, who did practice Wednesday. If that's the case, he should be back on the field Friday.

Posted: 9/23/2013 9:19am et

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith left the Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears briefly due to a hip injury. He came down hard on his hip on a catch attempt, but was able to return. He finished with 40 yards on three receptions, and he was targeted seven times.

Huddle Up: By the time Smith was able to return the rout was on for the Panthers, so he wasn't particularly needed as Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn were torching the Giants' secondary. We'll keep an eye on Smith's status going forward, as he's still the most reliable member of the Carolina passing game.

Posted: 9/5/2013 2:54pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith blamed former offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski for the team's struggles last year on offense. 'The prior offensive coordinator [Chudzinski] really was positioning himself to just apply for that head coaching job,' Smith said. 'I think our offense suffered a little bit because of that. At times, we got cute. We did things that weren't necessarily us, like the underutilizing of [running back] Mike Tolbert. But we're out of that. The past is the past.'

Huddle Up: The struggles certainly haven't hampered Smith as he remains the Panthers' unquestioned No. 1 WR -- even at age 34. As for the team's new OC, Mike Shula, the Panthers' offense remains a bit of a mystery as Shula hasn't run an NFL offense since 1999 with the Bucs.

Posted: 5/31/2013 11:17am et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith said he wants to play 15 or 16 seasons. The 33-year-old and 13-year veteran wants to emulate former Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber, who just retired. "Physically, I feel great right now," Smith said. He battled knee injuries for much of last year but reportedly has looked limber and has his motor back.

Huddle Up: Smith has shown no signs of slowing down, and the Panthers haven't exactly lined up his successor as the team's go-to receiver so they aren't expecting a drop-off either. Despite Smith's consistent production he's slipping off the fantasy radar with an ADP that tracks him as a fringe fantasy WR3, which feels like an opportunity for the shrewd drafter.

Posted: 5/31/2013 12:03am et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith said he wants to play 15 or 16 years in his career, which would take him through the 2015 season or the 2016 season. Smith said he feels great physically, and head coach Ron Rivera said he believes Smith is still at the top of his game.

Huddle Up: With the retirement announcement from the "other" Steve Smith earlier this week, many immediately assumed it was the Panthers' Smith, who turned 34 in May. Still, with 152 catches for 2,568 yards and 11 TDs over the past 2 seasons, Smith is still going strong, and his 2-year yardage total ranks as the second-best back-to-back season total in his 12-year career.
