Updating a previous item, Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels said his ankle feels better, but he is not sure if he will be able to play in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 21. He said he is able to do some light running and cutting, but that he can't go full speed yet.
The Huddle Take: To replace Rosenfels, the Vikings brought in journeyman quarterback Brett Favre, who spent last year with the Jets. Favre will likely get some reps with the Vikings' first team in Friday's preseason contest. No word yet on whether or not Rosenfels will get his starting job back once his ankle is healthy.

Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels missed the team's practice Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The Huddle Take: Rosenfels tweaked his ankle early in the Vikings' preseason win over Indy, but it didn't prevent him from leading a couple scoring drives. There's a very good chance Rosenfels was also being treated for a bruised ego as Brett Favre rode into practice on a white stallion with Brad Childress tossing rose petals in front of him.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels said he was not shocked about the signing of QB Brett Favre but was hoping it would not happen. 'Its something that wasnt a total shock. Obviously this has been three months in the ongoing sort of thing. So for me personally this wasnt what I was hoping for. I tried to get traded here and got traded here,' Rosenfels said. Rosenfels said his work ethic will not change.
The Huddle Take: Both Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson have to be disappointed, but they both have to stay sharp. Favre has a bad shoulder and he's 40, so odds are whoever the No. 2 Viking quarterback is has a really good shot at seeing significant playing time this season.

Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said QB Sage Rosenfels will start the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 14.
The Huddle Take: Childress has stressed that the preseason starter isn't automatically the regular season starter. But you have to think if Rosenfels is solid he'll keep the job once the games start, given that the Vikings have already seen what they get from Tarvaris Jackson.

CBSSports.com reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Sage Rosenfels split the first-team reps during 11-on-11 drills in practice Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The Huddle Take: This battle isn't likely to be settled any time soon, or at least Brad Childress isn't likely to reveal a winner any time soon. Meanwhile, somewhere in Mississippi...

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson (knee) and QB Sage Rosenfels split reps with first-team offense during morning practice Thursday, Aug. 6.
The Huddle Take: Maybe Jackson didn't fall to far behind of Rosenfels, even after missing some practices with a sore knee ligament. This battle will make Minnesota pre-season games must-see TV.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Sage Rosenfels split reps with the first-team offense during morning practice Friday, July 31.
The Huddle Take: Now that the Brett Favre saga is over -- as far as the Vikings are concerned, at least -- the Jackson/Rosenfels battle should be one of the most wide-open quarterback competitions in the NFL this preseason.

ESPN.com reports the Minnesota Vikings have acquired QB Sage Rosenfels from the Houston Texans for a fourth-round draft choice. Rosenfels has agreed to a two-year extension worth $9 million.
The Huddle Take: This deal has been two years in the making; last year the Texans wanted a second-rounder and the Vikings wouldn't cough it up, so this year with Minnesota offering a fifth and the Texans asking for a third the clubs met in the middle. Rosenfels will compete with Tarvaris Jackson to start for the Vikings, though after Jackson's shaky performance in Minnesota's postseason loss to the Eagles you would assume Rosenfels has the upper hand.

The Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings have offered Houston Texans QB Sage Rosenfels, who will be acquired in a trade, a three-year, $9 million extension, according to SportsRadio 610 in Houston.
The Huddle Take: Big news for the Vikings who are in desperate need of a quarterback to compete with Tarvaris Jackson. Rosenfels could certainly make for an interesting pickup and also make some noise as the Vikings have all the pieces in place for a serious run at the playoffs providing they find some consistency at the quarterback position.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans are close to trading QB Sage Rosenfels to the Minnesota Vikings for possibly a fourth-round draft choice.
The Huddle Take: The Vikings were offering a better pick for Rosenfels last year and the Texans rebuffed them, so we'll see if a fourth-rounder is enough to send Sage to Minnesota this time around. If this deal does come to fruition, Rosenfels would likely compete with Tarvares Jackson for the Vikings starting gig; meanwhile, the Texans would be banking heavily on Matt Schaub staying healthy.
