Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was released by the team Friday, March 10.

Huddle Up: Griffin was set to receive a $750,000 roster bonus Saturday, so this was a no-brainer for the Browns. Based on his recent play and poor track record for staying healthy, RG3 could be waiting a while before he gets another opportunity in the NFL.

  • Posted: 3/9/2017 12:48pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is expected to be released after Cleveland acquired QB Brock Osweiler.

Huddle Up: RG3 had a glimmer of hope if he were to have stayed in Cleveland, but all of that can be forgotten. He may struggle to find a roster spot in 2017 and shouldn't be on anyone's radar at this time.

  • Posted: 3/1/2017 9:08am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is expected to take part in the April offseason program, according to director of football operations Sashi Brown. Brown wouldn't commit to the $750,000 bonus Griffin is in line for in March.

Huddle Up: RG III is a mediocre QB2 in fantasy realms, but he showed some flashes with little to work with. He could be a matchup play in DFS.

  • Posted: 1/1/2017 2:52pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III threw for 232 yards and had two touchdowns and an interception in a 27-24 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Huddle Up: Whether the Browns go in another direction at quarterback remains to be seen. They are unlikely to send Terrelle Pryor back to QB because Pryor had over 1,000 receiving yards in 2016. Griffin could get another chance, unless the Browns select a QB in the draft and put him to use immediately.

  • Posted: 12/31/2016 4:55pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has roughly a 50 percent chance at returning as the starter for the team in 2017, according to ESPNCleveland's Tony Grossi.

Huddle Up: The upcoming draft lacks a top-flight prospect at the position, while the top free-agent quarterbacks figure to be players such as Tyrod Taylor and Mike Glennon. The Browns are reportedly interested in trading for New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo as well. It could be argued any or all the alternatives may be better than Griffin, who has shown next to nothing while also struggling to stay healthy yet again.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 2:07pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) left the Week 16 game against the San Diego Chargers due to concussion and he was unable to return.

Huddle Up: RG3 finished 17 for 25 with 164 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and 42 yards on six runs before departing. Even if he is able to return from yet another injury he isn't a very good fantasy option in Week 17.

  • Posted: 12/17/2016 7:23pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III needs to show 'a jump in performance' against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, according to head coach Hue Jackson, and offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said the team is counting on Griffin to be more consistent.

Huddle Up: If Griffin wants to make a case to be Cleveland's starter next season, he needs to show something in the final weeks. In the meantime, he should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

  • Posted: 12/11/2016 1:42pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was 12-for-27 for 104 yards and an interception in his return to the field Sunday, Dec. 11, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Huddle Up: Griffin is not a starter by any stretch of the imagination in this year's fantasy leagues. He could be a late-round flyer for next year's drafts if the next few weeks show signs of improvement. Anything special Griffin did today was icing on the cake, as he came back to the field following a three-month absence.

  • Posted: 12/9/2016 8:37pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III will 'add spice' to the running game, running backs coach Kirby Wilson said Friday, Dec. 9.

Huddle Up: After a solid start to the year, Isaiah Crowell hasn't run for more than 44 yards in each of his last five games. Don't expect much of a change with Griffin under center, and Crowell remains a risky flex play in Week 14.

  • Posted: 12/9/2016 11:08am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was activated off the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Dec. 9.

Huddle Up: The Browns hope to get a four-game look at RG3 before deciding what direction to go this offseason. Given the current state of things in Cleveland, don't expect it to go well. He can ignored in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/8/2016 7:56am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) was named the starter for Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Huddle Up: The Bengals have been decent against the QB position over the last five weeks. This wouldn't be the matchup to start RG III after a lengthy layoff.

  • Posted: 11/23/2016 7:22am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) has been designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Nov. 23, and has returned to practice.

Huddle Up: RG III would only have value in leagues that play two quarterbacks. However, with them activating him, you'd have to think they would play him when he's fit to return.

  • Posted: 11/16/2016 10:12pm ET

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) has been cleared for non-contact activities but isn't going to practice yet, the team announced Wednesday, Nov. 16. Griffin still needs to be cleared for contact, but he's making strides toward seeing the field again this year. Browns head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin will not practice this week.

Huddle Up: Griffin isn't anywhere close to return to game action. He might be back at some time this season, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect much.

  • Posted: 11/14/2016 1:28pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is on pace to play again in 2016, according to executive vice president Sashi Brown.

Huddle Up: Assuming Griffin will be fully healthy, he should be able to take over the starting position right away. The Browns need a spark after a 0-10 start, but Griffin will be too risky to start in fantasy lineups right away. If he was dropped, though, he'll be worth picking up when he returns.

  • Posted: 11/10/2016 9:52pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is improving, but it is still too soon to tell if he will play again this year, head coach Hue Jackson said Thursday, Nov. 10.

Huddle Up: Even if Griffin does return this year, there is no guarantee he will reclaim the starting job, let alone be effective. He can be left on the waiver wire.

  • Posted: 10/18/2016 11:29am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) will not need surgery on his injured shoulder, barring any setbacks. Griffin's four-week checkup revealed healing in Griffin's fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, according to sources. Griffin is on the short-term Reserve/Injured list and wouldn't be able to return to action until Nov. 10.

Huddle Up: Cody Kessler has actually played pretty well as a rookie in place of Griffin and McCown. Either one could very well start if/when they're ready to play again, but it's Kessler's team for the time being. The rule of thumb, though, is to avoid any starting Cleveland quarterback.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 6:59am ET

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) is now expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks with a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, according to multiple sources.

Huddle Up: There's a good chance that Griffin could miss the remainder of the 2016 season. QB Josh McCown will serve as Cleveland's starting quarterback but is not an ideal fantasy option and should be viewed as a midrange QB2 at best.

  • Posted: 9/12/2016 11:37am ET

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sep. 12, with a fractured coracoid bone. He will not undergo surgery and will be reevaluated in three to four weeks.

Huddle Up: That certainly escalated quickly for Griffin and the Browns. Fortunately for Cleveland, they have a capable, veteran backup in Josh McCown. Gary Barndige may be the main beneficiary as he and McCown hooked up frequently last season. McCown doesn't have as much fantasy value as Griffin and is comfortably in the low-end QB2 conversation, but he's worth a pickup for Griffin owners.

  • Posted: 9/11/2016 4:51pm ET

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on the sprained left shoulder he suffered in the Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He admitted after the game he was in pain.

Huddle Up: Griffin initially said he expected to be fine for the Week 2 game, but now his status is in question until after his test. If he is forced to miss time it would be Josh McCown called into action. Either way, RG3 is only worth using in deeper fantasy leagues which use two starting quarterbacks.

  • Posted: 9/11/2016 2:48pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) said he suffered a sprained shoulder during the team's Week 1 game but expects to be ready for Week 2.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Griffin will be able to practice this week. He probably can be avoided in most leagues next week since he will be facing a strong Baltimore Ravens defense.

  • Posted: 9/10/2016 7:32pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III could be more than a 'short-term' option for the franchise, head of football operations Sashi Brown said Friday, Sept. 9.

Huddle Up: Griffin will try to resurrect his career with Cleveland, and while he has enough potential to stash as a QB2, he is a shot-in-the-dark play in Week 1 against Philadelphia.

  • Posted: 8/26/2016 8:57pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was sacked five times in a 30-13 preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 26. He completed eight of his 14 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown and ran once for four yards.

Huddle Up: Griffin was under pressure early and often. He has shown flashes of upside, but he is likely to remain hit and miss all season. He is a late-round lottery ticket.

  • Posted: 8/18/2016 8:58pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III completed six of his eight passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns and ran three times for 36 yards in a 24-13 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 18.

Huddle Up: Griffin looked much better in his second preseason game, and with Hue Jackson as his head coach, he could put together a decent season. He is too risky to trust as your fantasy starter, but he should be owned as backup.

  • Posted: 8/13/2016 8:56am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III completed four of his eight pass attempts for 67 yards and an interception in a 17-11 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers Friday, Aug. 12.

Huddle Up: RG3 started out strong with a 49-yard pass to Terrelle Pryor but he also threw a terrible interception in the red zone. Griffin was without Corey Coleman and Andrew Hawkins but he can't keep making bad throws into traffic that lead to turnovers. Griffin is entrenched as the Browns starter, so he has a couple more preseason games to work out the kinks before Cleveland opens with the Eagles in Week 1.

  • Posted: 8/8/2016 10:02am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 8, by head coach Hue Jackson.

Huddle Up: Griffin will be playing for his NFL livelihood this season as it could be his last real shot to distinguish himself as a starter. He has talent at running back and tight end to work with, but his receiving corps leaves much to be desired until Josh Gordon returns. RG3 is a QB2 in fantasy that could be used as a bye week starter.

  • Posted: 8/6/2016 11:06pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has improved every day and has 'accepted every challenge' given to him, head coach Hue Jackson said Saturday, Aug. 6. Jackson also said he is 'very close' to naming a starting quarterback.

Huddle Up: All signs point to RG3 being named the starter for the Browns Week 1 game against the Eagles. Griffin has to show that he has a full grasp of Hue Jackson's offense but he has some playmakers in TE Gary Barnidge and rookie WR Corey Coleman. He'll open the year as a QB2.

  • Posted: 8/3/2016 6:13pm ET

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman has shown good chemistry with QB Robert Griffin III during the early part of training camp. The two have connected on deep passes as well as in the red zone for touchdowns. Griffin and Coleman worked out together during the offseason.

Huddle Up: It appears the Browns' new QB and first-round draft pick are clicking early -- which is a prime reason why Coleman is the top rookie wideout coming off the board in drafts at 36th among WRs with an eight-round ADP of 77.

  • Posted: 8/3/2016 7:56am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has improved by "leaps and bounds" as a leader, partly due to veteran QB Josh McCown guiding him, head coach Hue Jackson said Tuesday, Aug. 2. "A lot of him getting better has to do with Josh McCown," Jackson said. "Josh McCown has really done a great job of spending time with him and mentoring him to try and make the biggest jump that he can. Our quarterback room is a special place right now."

Huddle Up: Griffin has a long way to go before he is considered anything more than a backup fantasy option in most leagues. The only time RG3 should be starting is in fantasy formats which require two starting signal callers.

  • Posted: 6/30/2016 1:11pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is likely to be the starter in 2016 as head coach Hue Jackson appears to be 'all-in' on Griffin. Jackson and quarterback's coach Pep Hamilton have coached Griffin up on every aspect of the position, and Griffin has worked on sliding and throwing the ball away.

Huddle Up: No surprise here as the Browns didn't sign the QB to sit on the bench. He's going to get a lengthy test-drive, and is worth a late-round gamble if you're among the last in your standard-size league to draft a QB2.

  • Posted: 6/28/2016 1:24am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III will have to earn the starting job during the offseason, training camp and the preseason. Beat writer Tony Grossi said in a radio interview Monday, June 27, that Griffin has been underwhelming. 'He is learning a new offense. First of all he is healthy, he's very healthy. He looks physically like the old Robert Griffin in that he's moving great, he can zing the ball pretty well, but that's just the first step,' Grossi said.

Huddle Up: Fortunately for RG3, all he has to do is beat out Josh McCown for the Browns' starting gig. So if he can work his way up to simply "whelming", he'll probably be Cleveland's starter.

  • Posted: 6/26/2016 1:56pm ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III is working on planting his back foot before throwing passes, and head coach Hue Jackson said Griffin is doing a good job of checking the ball down.

Huddle Up: Many are projecting a return to fantasy relevance for the QB, but we at the Huddle aren't buying it -- for now -- as he's currently ranked as the 34th QB on the board in the preseason rankings.

  • Posted: 6/2/2016 11:10am ET

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has not officially been named the starting quarterback yet, and head coach Hue Jackson is not ready to name a starter at this point. 'When the time is right, trust me, you guys will be the first to know,' Jackson said. Jackson has seen improvements in Griffin, who he says is getting better every day, but added that the Browns need to make the right choice, not just the fast choice.

Huddle Up: No reason to make anything official until training camp, but if RG3 is not the starter then the Browns will have made a huge mistake in trading out of the top of the draft without landing a quarterback--and essentially be killing time until they select their next franchise quarterback at the top of the 2017 draft.
