Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson was released Monday, Aug. 31.

Huddle Up: Hardly a surprise but still shocking at the rapid demise of the third-overall pick in 2012. And with Roy Helu more of a third-down back, undrafted rookie Michael Dyer will serve as Latavius Murray's backup for now, but don't be surprised if the Raiders add a veteran here soon. (How would Fred Jackson look in Silver & Black?)

  • Posted: 8/10/2015 3:50pm ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson is listed as the backup behind RB Latavius Murray.

Huddle Up: Richardson is listed as the No. 2 right now but Roy Helu is going to play on passing downs. Richardson needs to impress this preseason just to solidify a spot on the final roster.

  • Posted: 8/2/2015 11:17pm ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson is likely competing with undrafted rookie RB Michael Dyer for a spot on the 53-man roster, and's Ian Rapoport puts Richardson's chances of making the final roster at 50-50.

Huddle Up: In a word: Yikes! If T-Rich hasn't reached rock bottom yet, he's getting awfully close.

  • Posted: 7/31/2015 7:12pm ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Friday, July 31.

Huddle Up: A reason wasn't given but there's a possibility Richardson failed his conditioning test. It would be a bad sign for his chances of making the Raiders' roster. Reports earlier this week said Richardson didn't look good early in camp. It seems unthinkable but a former first-round pick who was then traded for a first-round pick may be done at the age of 25.

  • Posted: 7/28/2015 9:58pm ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson plans to make the most of a fresh start in Oakland. 'I know what they [the coaching staff] expect and how they're going to spread the field, putting me in a position to be successful,' said Richardson. 'With that, in talking to [Head] Coach [Jack Del Rio], he just said there is just a lot of opportunity out here. He said he isn't going to promise me anything, but if I come in and work, I can be that bell cow,' Richardson said Tuesday, July 28.

Huddle Up: Even with the price dirt cheap, ignore the talk and resist the temptation to buy low on T-Rich. If you're still tempted, go back and review his Indy stats from the past two seasons.

  • Posted: 7/6/2015 3:25pm ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson lost some weight this offseason and showed some quickness during offseason workouts, according to offensive line coach Mike Tice.

Huddle Up: This story would have more fantasy importance if Tice were telling us Richardson was putting on weight and playing guard for the Raiders. After his showing the past two seasons few if any fantasy owners are banking on Richardson--lighter or not--bringing anything to the fantasy table as a possible backup to Latavius Murray.

  • Posted: 3/25/2015 10:58am ET

Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said Tuesday, March 24, that he expects RB Latavius Murray and RB Trent Richardson to compete for the starting tailback job. 'I think it will be a competitive situation,' Del Rio said.

Huddle Up: Good news for Murray and his fantasy owners, as what we've seen from Richardson lately suggests he won't be much competition at all.

  • Posted: 3/18/2015 12:04am ET

Oakland Raiders RB Trent Richardson will be competing with RB Latavius Murray for the starting running back position this offseason.

Huddle Up: The inexperienced Murray has made only three starts and has only 82 career carries, but Richardson is going to have to pull off a dramatic career U-turn to have a shot after averaging all of 3.1 yards per attempt on his 316 rushes in Indy over the last two seasons.

  • Posted: 3/17/2015 2:30pm ET

Free-agent RB Trent Richardson (Colts) signed with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, March 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Huddle Up: The Silver & Black will try to salvage Richardson's career -- still at age 24 -- which took a well-documented disastrous turn during his two seasons in Indy. It also marks a complete overhaul in the Raiders' backfield as Latavius Murray, Roy Helu and now Richardson have replaced Darren McFadden and the retired Maurice Jones-Drew.

  • Posted: 3/12/2015 8:08pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson was released Thursday, March 12.

Huddle Up: As has long been expected following his disastrous two-year run in Indy. Frank Gore, Dan Herron and Vick Ballard are expected to head the Colts' ground game if they don't re-sign free-agent Ahmad Bradshaw.

  • Posted: 2/18/2015 12:21am ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson missed the team's walkthrough and flight for the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. He was suspended two games without pay for not contacting the team prior to his absence. However, sources said his absence was due to serious complications with his girlfriend's pregnancy that could potentially have endangered the life of the child. Richardson rushed her to the hospital Jan. 17, the same day the team left for New England.

Huddle Up: It's only the start of what's sure to be a contentious offseason between T-Rich and Indy, and many see it ending with the two parties parting ways.

  • Posted: 2/10/2015 11:58pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson needs to be more decisive when he runs, according to New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount. Blount said Richardson needs to find the creases his offensive line gives him and use his size to his advantage.

Huddle Up: Blount's critique is nothing Richardson hasn't heard since the middle of last season, but the former No. 3 overall draft pick simply seems unable to make any adjustments to his game and it appears it will cost him a roster spot in Indy.

  • Posted: 2/9/2015 2:56pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson developed a rocky relationship with the team last year, and the tension built up over the season because of weight issues, accessibility and an absence, according to multiple sources. Richardson was suspended two games for missing a walk-through. Richardson started the year at 225 pounds, but he ballooned up to 240 pounds later in the year, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Richardson wasn't particularly productive in addition to running afoul of team officials, and it's quite likely the team will find a way to move on from him in the offseason.

  • Posted: 1/27/2015 1:28pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson's one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team voided the guarantee of a $3,184,062 salary in 2015.

Huddle Up: Sounds like the perfect out for Indy with the deeply disappointing Richardson having averaged only 3.1 yards per carry in 20 games with the team.

  • Posted: 1/21/2015 12:44pm ET

Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson was suspended and deactivated for the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 18.

Huddle Up: Lots of talk regarding Richardson's situation, none of it regarding his on-field performance--because there was none. Richardson missed practices, was reportedly dealing with a family situation, and was also suspended? Despite the cap hit and invested first-round pick there just doesn't seem to be any way Richardson returns to the Colts next season.

  • Posted: 1/18/2015 1:40pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (personal) did not make the trip to New England for the AFC Championship Game.

Huddle Up: Richardson didn't get a touch in the wild-card win over the Bengals, was inactive during the divisional round and his disastrous run in Indy appears to be over.

  • Posted: 1/11/2015 4:03pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson has been ruled inactive for the Divisional Round playoff game against the Denver Broncos.

Huddle Up: It seems the Colts have finally given up on their 2013 prize trade acquisition, who's struggled to keep his yards-per-carry average above 3.0 -- let alone make any sort of impact. Meanwhile, RB Michael Hill, a street free agent signed Tuesday, is active for the game and will back up Daniel Herron and Zurlon Tipton.

  • Posted: 1/8/2015 4:24pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson's role is unclear leading up to the divisional round game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 11, after he was demoted to third on the depth chart behind RBs Dan Herron and Zurlon Tipton in the team's wild-card playoff win. Richardson only played on one offensive snap last weekend. "We're going to evaluate the situation as we go through the week and we'll know more as we go through the week," head coach Chuck Pagano said.

Huddle Up: While Richardson got regular touches throughout the season despite his less-than-impressive performances, it looks like the Colts have finally soured on the former No. 3 overall pick. Stay far away, no matter how cheap his DFS salary figure may be.

  • Posted: 1/4/2015 5:32pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (illness) was active for the wild-card playoff game but was held out of the game. Head coach Chuck Pagano said he expects Richardson to play in the Divisional Round playoff game.

Huddle Up: Richardson missed only his second game in two years with the Colts, while rookies Dan Herron (12-56-1) and Zurlon Tipton (11-40) shouldered the load against the Bengals. Herron also led the team with 10 recdeptions for 85 yards and remains the only Indy back you want.

  • Posted: 1/3/2015 12:48am ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (illness) is listed as questionable for the team's wild-card playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Jan. 4, according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Richardson missed practice Friday, Jan. 2.

Huddle Up: Richardson should be fine by Sunday but rookie Dan Herron will get the majority of the RB work Sunday against Cincy as usual.

  • Posted: 12/2/2014 9:04pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson won't have his role reduced by head coach Chuck Pagano after RB Dan Herron outplayed Richardson for the second straight week in Week 13 against the Washington Redskins. Herron has run for 153 yards and a touchdown in the last two games, while Richardson has just 54 yards rushing. 'He's a professional, he understands,' Pagano said. 'None of us can ever get away from working at our craft regardless of the circumstance, regardless of adversity, just keep grinding, just keep working, just keep swinging the ax. If he keeps swinging the ax, the tree will fall. If you put the ax down, the tree is never coming down. Just keep chopping wood and good things will happen.'

Huddle Up: From Donald Brown to Ahmad Bradshaw to now Herron, Richardson has been outperformed by just about every back he's played with in Indy, but it's clear the Colts aren't about to give up on the player they dealt a first-round pick for.

  • Posted: 11/20/2014 6:29pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Huddle Up: T-Rich should be fine -- the Colts certainly need him to be -- after he sat out Wednesday with a reported illness.

  • Posted: 10/31/2014 3:25pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) is not on the injury report for Week 9, and should be able to play Monday, Nov. 3.

Huddle Up: Richardson is primed to return after sitting out Week 8 and is a decent low-end RB2/flex option Monday night against the Giants.

  • Posted: 10/24/2014 4:01pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) has been doing rehab work this week but hasn't practiced. He is listed as questionable could be a game-time decision in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Huddle Up: Indy's late-afternoon kickoff in Pittsburgh on Sunday won't help T-Rich owners, but the RB is a longshot to play in any case given he hasn't practiced at all. Get another back in your lineup now and prepare to leave him there.

  • Posted: 10/23/2014 4:14pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 23.

Huddle Up: That's 2 straight missed practices for the Indy RB, and it's starting to look like Ahmad Bradshaw and Dan Herron will serve as the team's primary backs Sunday in Pittsburgh.

  • Posted: 10/23/2014 10:16am ET

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) said Wednesday, Oct. 22, that he expects to play in the Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was injured in the second half of the Week 7 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, and could have returned. However, he was held out because the game had already been decided.

Huddle Up: Richardson is still the Colts' volume back, though Ahmad Bradshaw is the more efficient and effective of the tandem.

  • Posted: 10/22/2014 6:03pm ET

Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Huddle Up: Something to keep on the rest of the week after Richardson departed last Sunday's game early with the balky hammy. Dan Herron would spell Ahmad Bradshaw in Week 8 if Richardson is unable to go.
