Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (collarbone) could be out until at least midseason after undergoing surgery to repair a broken collarbone, a person with knowledge of the injury said Monday, Aug. 18.

Huddle Up: In the meantime, Josh Morgan steps into the No. 3 role as newly signed Santonio Holmes gets up to speed. Neither figures to be a fantasy factor, though, unless Brandon Marshall or Alshon Jeffery were to miss more than a few starts.

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson underwent surgery Tuesday, Aug. 5, to repair a broken clavicle. There is no timetable for his return.

Huddle Up: Josh Morgan has moved into the No. 3 role, but there is little behind him on the depth chart with the likes of journeymen Eric Weems and Michael Spurlock listed as backups. Coach Marc Trestman says the team likely will add a WR over the next 48 hours, and one possible candidate is ex-Bear Earl Bennett, who was released earlier this offseason by the Browns.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (clavicle) fractured his clavicle Monday, Aug. 4. There is no timetable for his return.

Huddle Up: Wilson was locked in as the Bears' No. 3 WR but now he'll miss the start of the season. Josh Morgan is the favorite to line up in three-receiver sets while Wilson is out but he offers no fantasy value. Wilson is an intriguing deep sleeper prospect once he returns.

The Chicago Bears want WR Marquess Wilson to win the slot receiver role. The job is his to lose unless he falters drastically in training camp.

Huddle Up: Before you get too excited, consider that Wilson has two career NFL catches and that last season the WR3 gig in Chicago--stat-blocked by Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, as well as RB Matt Forte and TE Martellus Bennett--accounted for just 243 yards and four TDs last year.

The Chicago Bears are giving WR Marquess Wilson the first chance to win the No. 3 wide receiver job, and the coaching staff appears to be confident that he will earn the job.

Huddle Up: Wilson, a 2013 7th-round pick, caught only 2 passes for 13 yards in 10 games as a rookie, and remains in a tough fantasy spot with target-hogs Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey (313 combined in 2013) holding down the starting WR spots in Windy City.

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson is considered the leading candidate for the No. 3 wide receiver job this upcoming season.

Huddle Up: Wilson, a 2013 7th-round pick who caught 2 passes for 13 yards as a rookie, will have some veteran FAs to beat out in Josh Morgan (Redskins) and Domenik Hixon (Panthers). Even then, there's still the matter of targets with Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte at the top of the mix.

Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman indicated WR Marquess Wilson likely will be given the chance to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver spot during training camp.

Huddle Up: Earl Bennett is out and Domenik Hixon is in and, as it stands now, he figures to be the chief competition for Wilson, who caught 2 passes for 13 yards this past season after making the team as a seventh-round pick.

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson is expected to receive the opportunity to compete for more playing time next season. Wilson likely will need to light it up during training camp if he wants to move above WR Earl Bennett on the depth chart.

Huddle Up: Wilson, a 6-3, 194-pound 7th-round pick in 2013, had only catches for 13 yards on 3 targets and will find it hard to gain fantasy relevance behind WRs Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and TE Martellus Bennett, even if he is able to overtake Earl Bennett on the depth chart.
