Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon is confident he has a shot at winning the starting job in 2014.

Huddle Up: Newly signed veteran Josh McCown is the favorite to start under new coach Lovie Smith, but don't write off Glennon, who threw for 2,608 yards and had an impressive 19-9 TD/interception ratio in 13 starts as a rookie this past season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said he believes QB Mike Glennon will have a bright future, but that Glennon will have competition for the starting quarterback job next season.

Huddle Up: Glennon, a 2013 3rd-round pick, had a solid 19-9 TD-to-interception ratio in his rookie season but did throw for fewer than 200 yards in 7 of his 13 starts.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may add a quarterback this offseason to compete with QB Mike Glennon for the starting quarterback job. Head coach Lovie Smith praised Glennon during his introductory press conference but did not name Glennon as the starting quarterback.

Huddle Up: It's a little early for Smith to anoint his quarterback, but evaluation of Glennon will be a top priority for the Bucs' new staff leading up to free agency and the draft.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano believes QB Mike Glennon is the long-term answer at quarterback for the team. 'I think this is a guy that certainly, as long as he continues on this trajectory, is a guy you'd love to have as a quarterback for a long time,' Schiano said. Glennon has excelled in his rookie year at protecting the football and completing passes downfield. He leads all rookies with 13 touchdown passes. The Bucs have won three straight and Glennon has thrown at least one touchdown in eight straight games, the longest streak for a rookie passer since Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson did it in nine straight last year.

Huddle Up: As mentioned, Glennon's most impressive feat has been avoiding mistakes, and he only has thrown one interception in his last 6 games after tossing 3 in his first 2 as a starter. On the fantasy flip side, he's failed to throw for at least 250 yards in 5 of his 8 starts, but he's been a relatively steady hand compared to the up-and-down seasons a number of other starting QBs have put their fantasy owners through.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released their first unofficial depth chart of training camp Friday, Aug. 2, and QB Mike Glennon is listed as the primary backup to QB Josh Freeman. Veteran QB Dan Orlovsky is listed as the third quarterback.

Huddle Up: No real shocker as the Bucs are said to like Glennon, a rookie third-round pick out of N.C. State, while Orlovsky is a journeyman, who is with his fourth team in 5 NFL seasons. We'll see if this is the same come Week 1.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano cleared things up by saying that QB Josh Freeman is the team's starting quarterback Monday, May 20. Schiano had said previously that QB Mike Glennon could "play quickly" if necessary.

Huddle Up: It's no secret Freeman is on a short leash this year as the Bucs opted not to extend his contract. If he plays well he'll be a wealthy man following the season; if he struggles, Glennon is waiting in the wings. Given the considerable talent around him, Freeman should be able to answer the bell--and be a solid fantasy bargain in the process.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he believes QB Mike Glennon can play quickly and has not ruled out the possibility of Glennon taking over the starting job from QB Josh Freeman. 'We have a starting quarterback. It's not like we're looking to find a starter. But competition is competition. Mike Glennon is a fierce competitor. I knew that when he was coming out of high school. Now being able to work with him a little, you can see it on the practice field,' Schiano said.

Huddle Up: Freeman, entering his 5th season, bounced back nicely from his 16-TD, 22-interception campaign in 2011 with a career-high 27 TDs and 4,065 yards this past season, and it's going to take a pretty sizable regression from Freeman for Glennon to get a shot.
