Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler received a slight but expected vote of non-confidence Monday, Jan. 16, as head coach Bill O'Brien told reporters it is too early to know if Osweiler will be the starting quarterback at season because the team has a lot of evaluating to do.

Huddle Up: The odds are overwhelming Houston adds a quarterback via the draft or free agency who can give Osweiler and/or Tom Savage a run for their money. With most if not all of the league's top-ranked defense likely to return in 2017, the pressure will be on the Texans' brass to improve the offense to the point to where they can make a Super Bowl run. A first-round quarterback selection cannot be ruled out, nor can the possibility Osweiler becomes the league's most highly paid backup.

  • Posted: 1/15/2017 7:14pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said he is disappointed he was unable to capitalize on the opportunities that presented themselves in the AFC Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots.

Huddle Up: Despite signing a big deal to join the Texans, Osweiler is no lock to start in 2017 after a terrible season. Even if he does start, he doesn't need to be drafted.

  • Posted: 1/14/2017 9:24pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler played turnover-free ball in the first half before throwing three interceptions in the second half in a Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots. He finished 23-of-40 for 198 yards and a touchdown.

Huddle Up: Thus ends a wildly inconsistent and mostly disappointing season for Osweiler, who found C.J. Fiedorowicz from 10 yards out for his only score. Despite being only one season into a four-year, $72 million deal, the Texans will need to seriously consider adding another signal-caller in the offseason after spending most of 2016 calling plays out of fear their top quarterback would lose games for them. Osweiler will be far off the fantasy radar in most leagues in 2017.

  • Posted: 1/7/2017 5:27pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 14 of his 25 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown and ran six times for 15 yards and a score in a 27-14 win over the Oakland Raiders Saturday, Jan. 7, and head coach Bill O'Brien said Osweiler will start in the divisional round.

Huddle Up: Compared to his usual numbers, this was a strong outing from Osweiler. A much tougher matchup likely awaits him next week, and he will be a reach for fantasy owners, even has a low-priced DFS play.

  • Posted: 1/4/2017 9:09pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler didn't elaborate on an argument he had at halftime with head coach Bill O'Brien during Week 17, and O'Brien chalked the situation up to the intensity of the game.

Huddle Up: Osweiler is back in the starting lineup after a brief benching, and with Tom Savage ruled out for the playoff game, the Texans have no other choice but to live and die with Osweiler. He has been awful this year, but with limited options available and a friendly matchup against the Raiders, he could be worth a roll of the dice in DFS games.

  • Posted: 1/3/2017 10:40am ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler was named the starter for the team's AFC Wild-Card game against the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Huddle Up: This news likely confirms the playoffs will kick off with Osweiler and rookie Connor Cook under center. Riveting. Tom Savage is still in the league's concussion protocol and didn't exactly perform well enough in his brief time as the starter to give the Texans a reason to wait for him to return. Osweiler did manage to get DeAndre Hopkins involved last week, but it is going to be difficult to trust any Texan offensive players outside of Lamar Miller and perhaps C.J. Fiedorowicz this weekend.

  • Posted: 1/1/2017 12:21pm ET

Updating previous items, Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (concussion) was determined to have a concussion at halftime of the Sunday, Jan. 1, game against the Tennessee Titans. QB Brock Osweiler is in the game.

Huddle Up: This could be worth monitoring in the coming days. Obviously Savage's health comes first, so the team may have to go with Osweiler in postseason play if Savage isn't cleared in concussion protocol. If you take part in playoff leagues, this will be a big factor. Otherwise, if your season is over, there could be a battle at QB heading into 2017.

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (thigh) was a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 16, and isn't listed on the Week 15 injury report.

Huddle Up: Osweiler hasn't been able to push the ball down the field all year, and he didn't even manage 100 passing yards against Jacksonville the first time around. He should be avoided in all formats in Week 15.

  • Posted: 12/15/2016 5:42pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (thigh) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 15.

Huddle Up: Osweiler threw for a season-low 99 yards the first time he faced Jacksonville, and he shouldn't be starting in any format when he faces them again in Week 15.

  • Posted: 12/11/2016 9:50pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts for just 147 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 14 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He also rushed twice for minus-2 yards.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has not only struggled this season, but he has been getting worse lately. He offers very little to fantasy owners, especially at this critical juncture of the season.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 6:09pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 202 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 13 game against the Green Bay Packers in snowy conditions. He also ran three times for 20 yards.

Huddle Up: It was just Osweiler's fifth multi-touchdown game of the season and sixth outing in 12 starts with a completion percentage of 62.9 percent or better. He still remains more of a QB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 14.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 10:04pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 22 of his 37 pass attempts for 246 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in the Week 12 game against the San Diego Chargers. He also ran three times for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Huddle Up: Osweiler continues to make plenty of mistakes and this game resulted in a season-low 45.5 QB Rating. He cannot be trusted in fantasy leagues outside of formats requiring two starting signal callers.

  • Posted: 11/21/2016 9:48pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 26 of his 39 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 11 game against the Oakland Raiders Monday, Nov. 21, in Mexico City. He also ran twice for 19 yards.

Huddle Up: Osweiler faced a favorable pass defense, but he still didn't do much and was on the losing end, too. Osweiler has been one of the bigger busts among the offseason signings, and he is nothing more than a low-end QB2 in most fantasy formats.

  • Posted: 10/30/2016 1:02pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler bounced back from a bad road outing by throwing for 186 yards and a touchdown in a 20-13 win over the Detroit Lions.

Huddle Up: The Texans have been perfect at home this season, so this might not come as a surprise. Osweiler is still a risky bet to play because of his up-and-down nature, but keep an eye on the matchups. Osweiler may be a better play at home, where he has thrown eight of his nine touchdowns.

  • Posted: 10/27/2016 6:58pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (foot) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has underwhelmed and is coming off a brutal performance, but he could have value as a DFS sleeper against a porous Detroit secondary in Week 8.

  • Posted: 10/26/2016 9:23pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler will start in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions. The Lions are tied for the NFL lead with 18 passing touchdowns allowed. Detroit also has given up 273.0 yards per game through the air, 10th most in the league.

Huddle Up: The Lions have a solid front seven to apply pressure, but this might finally be the game Osweiler breaks out and posts solid fantasy numbers. In deeper fantasy leagues Osweiler is a good streaming option if you need a bye-week replacement or your primary matchup has a difficult matchup.

  • Posted: 10/26/2016 4:00pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (foot) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has not been worth his $12 million contract this year, not even close. But, he does have one of the best matchups of the week against the Detroit Lions. Detroit has yielded 18 touchdowns through the air this year -- tied for most in the NFL. You may not want to start him in seasonal leagues, but Osweiler is a cheap contrarian option in daily formats.

  • Posted: 10/25/2016 2:37pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler will not be benched, according to head coach Bill O'Brien, who said he hasn't even considered benching the quarterback.

Huddle Up: The Texans may not be benching Osweiler, but fantasy coaches should be. Osweiler has thrown only eight touchdowns while throwing an equal amount of interceptions. He has been one of the most underwhelming players in the NFL through seven weeks and does not belong in the starting quarterback slot on fantasy rosters.

  • Posted: 10/24/2016 9:34pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler returned to Denver for the Week 7 game Monday, Oct. 24, and he completed 22 of his 41 pass attempts for just 131 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and one fumble lost.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has not jelled very well with DeAndre Hopkins, he had accuracy issues all evening and he rarely looked downfield. He has very little fantasy appeal heading into Week 8 against the Detroit Lions.

  • Posted: 10/22/2016 1:30pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (foot) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 22, and is not on the injury report for Week 7.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has thrown eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in six games this season and will be facing a strong Denver Broncos pass defense in Week 7. Owners in all leagues probably should avoid Osweiler this week.

  • Posted: 10/21/2016 6:23pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (foot) was a full participant in practice Friday, Oct. 21.

Huddle Up: Osweiler is on track to play in Week 7, but mediocre numbers and matchup with Denver's stout defense make him a poor fantasy play.

  • Posted: 10/21/2016 6:30am ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (foot) was added to the injury report Thursday, Oct. 20, with a foot injury. He went full in practice Thursday, and he's expected to play in Week 7 on Monday Night Football.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has struggled with a 59 percent completion percentage, 1,402 yards, eight scores and eight picks. He returns to face his former team in the Denver Broncos, and he's not a strong play except in two-QB leagues.

  • Posted: 10/9/2016 4:43pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed just 19 of his 42 pass attempts for 184 yards, a touchdown and one interception in the Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Huddle Up: Osweiler hasn't looked very good this season, throwing for six touchdowns and seven interceptions in five games, and he has tossed for 196 or fewer yards in two of his past three games. He is only worth fantasy attention in leagues which require two starting QBs.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 5:36pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 25 of his 37 pass attempts for 254 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans. He also ran once for 14 yards.

Huddle Up: Osweiler bounced back from a disaster last week with the two touchdowns, but he also had two more picks and has turned it over six times in four games. He remains more of a QB2 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 5 and beyond.

  • Posted: 9/23/2016 9:14pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said he takes the blame for the performance of the offense against the New England Patriots in Week 3, and he said he will become a better quarterback because of the experience.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has three touchdowns and four picks through three games, and he looks like a low-end QB2 at this point.

  • Posted: 9/21/2016 3:20pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (back) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Huddle Up: Osweiler will not be limited by his back injury and should be able to make all the throws in the offensive playbook. He will be facing a tough New England Patriots defense and probably is not a great fantasy option for owners.

  • Posted: 9/20/2016 3:43pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (back) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has been inconsistent throughout his short career, but he does have a favorable matchup against the New England Patriots this week. The Patriots yielded nearly 400 yards to Ryan Tannehill last week and Osweiler is a cheaper investment in daily contests.

  • Posted: 9/19/2016 4:43pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler (back) participated fully in practice Monday, Sept. 19. Osweiler's status is simply an estimation of what his practice activity would be as the Patriots only held a walkthrough.

Huddle Up: Osweiler has been decent so far in his first season with Texans, but he doesn't perform consistently enough to warrant QB1 status on a week-to-week basis. He's not a bad play in daily contests this week, however, going up against a New England Patriots defense that just gave up nearly 400 yards to Ryan Tannehill.

  • Posted: 9/11/2016 9:54pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 231 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears in his regular season team debut.

Huddle Up: Osweiler jelled nicely with Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins, and the run game was good allowing him plenty of time to throw. If everyone on offense can remain healthy, Osweiler could be a decent QB2 in most fantasy leagues worth using in select weeks when the matchup is favorable.

  • Posted: 8/28/2016 7:12pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 11 of his 13 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown in a 34-24 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Aug. 28.

Huddle Up: Osweiler is an unknown as he enters his first season as a full-time starter, but a solid supporting cast makes him worth a look as a midrange QB2. He could develop into a decent trade chip.

  • Posted: 8/24/2016 10:40am ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler is encouraged by the chemistry he is developing with his receivers following the second preseason game. 'I think the receivers are understanding when I want to get the ball out versus man versus maybe a zone coverage. Obviously, I'm learning the body language of each wide receiver when he's going to come out of his break, how he likes his football, where he likes his football. Every single day we're getting better.'

Huddle Up: Osweiler is a low-end quarterback option who should be left to the waiver wire outside of SuperFlex and two-QB leagues. There is some potential in the revamped Houston attack, but fantasy owners should wait to see the offense clicking before relying on Osweiler as anything more than a desperation start.

  • Posted: 8/20/2016 10:22pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 12 of his 19 pass attempts for 124 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the New Orleans Saints.

Huddle Up: Osweiler looked a lot more comfortable in this game than his debut. He is going to be just fine as long as DeAndre Hopkins stays healthy, Will Fuller continues to progress and either Jaelen Strong or Braxton Miller can emerge as another viable target. He remains more of a low-end QB2 in most standard fantasy formats with some room to move up.

  • Posted: 8/1/2016 8:07am ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said he felt comfortable calling the plays and making adjustments at the line of scrimmage during practice Sunday, July 31.

Huddle Up: Osweiler is a bit of an unknown heading into his first season as a full-time starter, and he shouldn't be counted on as more than a midrange QB2.

  • Posted: 5/12/2016 10:29am ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said Wednesday, May 11, that it has been fun learning a new offense and trying to get comfortable in his new surroundings. 'It's fun,' Osweiler said. 'It's hard to judge that progress because we haven't hit the practice field and gone against a defense, but it's like you speak Spanish your whole life and then all of a sudden one day, they tell you to go learn French and do it in front of 70,000 people.'

Huddle Up: Osweiler will have more freedom in Houston than he did in Denver, with a similar array of offensive weapons. Let's see if it's enough for him to live up to his big contract, or more importantly put up quality fantasy numbers.

  • Posted: 4/7/2016 5:52pm ET

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler is looking good during the team's offseason workouts, according to a source. WR DeAndre Hopkins has been off the charts, too.

Huddle Up: Hopkins put up monster numbers (111-1,521-11) with the mediocre-QB conglomerate the Texans employed last season to finish as fantasy's fifth-ranked wideout, so he'll be squarely in the top-tier WR1 discussion again this year. The still-largely unproven Osweiler, meanwhile, will be doing good to finish in QB2 territory.

  • Posted: 3/1/2016 10:06am ET

Denver Broncos impending free-agent Brock Osweiler's next best suitor could be the Houston Texans if he is not retained by the Broncos, in the opinion of CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.

Huddle Up: Plenty of quarterbacks will be mentioned in conjunction with the Texans, in part because they don't currently have one. Until the Peyton Manning situation is resolved in Denver Osweiler remains in limbo, but smart money is on Manning retiring and the Broncos re-signing Osweiler.

  • Posted: 2/23/2016 3:22pm ET

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler will begin contract-extension talks with the Broncos at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Huddle Up: All signs point toward the Broncos re-upping with Osweiler, who went 5-2 in his first seven career starts a season ago, and they'd like to get things wrapped up before the QB hits the open market and his pricetag increases.

  • Posted: 2/12/2016 1:32pm ET

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler is hoping that he can remain with Denver if QB Peyton Manning decides to retire in the offseason. 'Every single guy on this team embraced me, and that is something I think they all know how thankful I am for that, but this is the best team in the world and we have a very special group in our locker room,' Osweiler said. If LB Von Miller receives the franchise tag, signing Osweiler to a new deal may be necessary.

Huddle Up: The timing of the Manning decision will be a key here as the Broncos would like to get a deal done before Osweiler can hit the open market and have a team or two up the bidding.

  • Posted: 2/12/2016 1:07am ET

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler could be pursued by the Cleveland Browns. Denver Broncos general manager John Elway believes the Browns are Denver's top competition for Osweiler.

Huddle Up: Hey, the Browns could be leery of their past draft QB failures (Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden and Johnny Manziel) and could look for their next QB via the free agency route. Outside of his seven starts this past season, Osweiler is unproven, but he is only 25.

  • Posted: 2/2/2016 10:15pm ET

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler is expected to be the Broncos' starting quarterback next season if they can sign him to an extension, even if QB Peyton Manning decides that Super Bowl 50 isn't his final game. Broncos quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp said Monday, Feb. 1, that Osweiler has done everything to put himself in a position to start for Denver next year. President and general manager John Elway said he's excited about Osweiler and is 'hoping to get something done with Brock this offseason.' Osweiler can become a free agent March 9.

Huddle Up: Osweiler averaged 245.9 yards per game and threw for 10 TDs and six interceptions in seven starts in place of the injured Manning, and that's a good-news, bad-news scenario for the Broncos as the pricetag of the 2012 second-round pick shot up as the result of his strong play.
