Seattle Seahawks LB Bruce Irvin is ready for the first start of his NFL career in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Jan. 13. He set a franchise rookie record with eight sacks this season. He'll not only be called upon to continue pressuring the quarterback, but he'll need to help stop the run, too.
Huddle Up: The rookie will be counted on in a big way Sunday with the team's leading sacker, Chris Clemons, being lost to a knee injury in the wild-card round. The Falcons haven't been an especially effective running team, but they'll be sure to test Irvin with some traps, draws and power runs to his side of the field.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he is not concerned that DE Bruce Irvin has not recorded a sack or a tackle in the first three preseason games because he has done well in practice. 'Bruce was the most productive guy in practice throughout the camp,' Carroll said. 'We keep score of that stuff, and he was the highest-ranked guy in terms of productivity. That's in sacks and tackles for losses and knocking balls loose and all that stuff.'
Huddle Up: Right now, all of Carroll's skeptics, who blasted the coach for reaching for Irvin with the draft's 15th overall pick, are having a field day. Still, the games that count aren't even here yet meaning it's far too early to start writing off any player, let alone a rookie that hasn't played a single meaningful snap in a real NFL game.
