The National Football Post reports Baltimore Ravens FS Ed Reed (neck, shoulder) is dealing with a nagging nerve impingement of his neck and shoulder, which could be causing Reed to miss some tackles. Reed missed three arm tackles during the team's Week 9 game. Head coach John Harbaugh said, "I think he's tackled very well this year, up until this game. Obviously, the hit against Denver was as good a tackle as you're ever going to see. From my understanding, the neck is as good as it's been in two years, but I think it's a factor. But it's not a dangerous type thing where he's at risk, or he wouldn't be playing."
The Huddle Take: The Ravens still have a pretty good defense, but it's a middle-of-the-pack unit overall and in the bottom half of the league against the pass. The defense has also shown vulnerability at times to opposing running games, as Cedric Benson demonstrated in Week 9. The bottom line is you don't have to take the Baltimore defense into nearly as much consideration when setting your lineup as you had to in previous seasons. And Reed's nerve problem is probably a large reason why.

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports Baltimore Ravens FS Ed Reed was not listed on the team's injury report Wednesday, Sept. 9, but he is still affected by a nerve impingement in his neck and shoulder. Reed said, "I'm as ready as I'm going to be. I still take precautions and try to play smart. I try not to really worry about it as much, and let my mind focus on what we have to do."
The Huddle Take: Any time the playmaking Reed is on the field he gives the Ravens a shot at not only generating a turnover but also taking that turnover back for a score. While the injury remains a concern, it doesn't sound as if it will prevent Reed from joining his mates for Baltimore's season opener.

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens S Ed Reed has been placed on the team's active physically unable to perform list and is not scheduled to practice Friday, July 31.
The Huddle Take: If you're playing in an IDP league, make sure you let everyone know that Reed is hurt; that way he might just fall to you. Reed missed almost the entire preseason last year with a nerve impingement in his neck and shoulder... and was a unanimous All Pro selection. So despite working out in a red "no-contact" jersey right now, he should be good to go by the start of the season.
