Carolina Panthers WR Stephen Hill (knee) has torn the ACL in right knee and will miss the 2015 season. The wideout, who was carted off the field Saturday after attempting to make a catch across the middle during an afternoon practice, was waived by the team Sunday, Aug. 2.

Huddle Up: More misfortune and another missed opportunity for the 2012 second-round pick of the Jets, who had impressed during offseason OTAs and was battling for a backup WR spot. Hill caught 45 passes in two seasons in N.Y. before spending last season on the Panthers' practice squad.

Carolina Panthers WR Stephen Hill has been one of the standout performers during offseason workouts, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Huddle Up: Hill might just play himself into the third receiver role on a run-first team, which doesn't exactly scream "fantasy opportunity".

Carolina Panthers WR Stephen Hill signed a Reserve/Future contract Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Huddle Up: Carolina could use some receiver help. Not that Hill, a former first-round pick of the Jets, is the guy to provide it but stranger things have happened.

The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent WR Stephen Hill (Jets) to their practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Huddle Up: The 2012 second-round pick has fallen quite a ways, but he'll have a decent chance to work his way on to the Panthers' active roster given the state of their WR corps.

Free-agent WR Stephen Hill's agent, Alan Herman, said that Hill never had a chance to succeed with the New York Jets. 'He didn't have a chance that first year with that whole Tim Tebow-Mark Sanchez fiasco,' Herman said. 'His second year, Geno Smith was learning how to play quarterback. So they never threw the ball deep because they wanted to simplify things for Geno.'

Huddle Up: Yeah, Hill certainly wasn't working with the ideal QB situation in N.Y., but that still doesn't completely explain the 2012 second-round pick's abysmal production (45 catches for 594 yards) in two seasons and another poor showing in camp/preseason this summer. Still only 23, though, Hill will get another chance to show what he can do with another team/QB situation.
