The San Francisco 49ers waived PK Billy Cundiff Friday, Jan. 18.
Huddle Up: Guess this means whatever has been bugging David Akers is no longer an issue, and you can set your fantasy lineups accordingly.

The San Francisco 49ers tried out free-agent PKs Billy Cundiff (Redskins) and Nate Kaeding (Chargers) Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Huddle Up: It's unlikely that David Akers is in any danger, but that's not to say he hasn't been extremely shaky, hitting only 70.4 percent (19-of-27) of his field-goal attempts so far after a record-setting 2011.

Washington Redskins PK Billy Cundiff's struggles continued in Week 5 as he missed a 31-yard field goal for a second consecutive week. Head coach Mike Shanahan said after the game that he didn't know what the team would do about their kicking position. Shanahan was going to wait until Monday, Oct. 8, to make a decision. "I'm disappointed, especially when it's a chip shot in there," Shanahan said. "What was it, the 13-yard line? Something in that range. That's always disappointing when you have a chance to get a little momentum going, especially at that time of the game."
Huddle Up: Cundiff's playoff miss contributed to his departure from Baltimore, and he's shanking his way out of DC as well. Expect the usual suspects to gather in our nation's capitol this week to audition for the gig. And if you've been banking on Cundiff as your fantasy kicker, best start looking for your replacement as well.

The Baltimore Ravens have released PK Billy Cundiff.
Huddle Up: The Ravens' new kicker will be rookie Justin Tucker, a college free-agent from Texas, who hit all 5 of his preseason field goal attempts. Tucker was brought into challenge Cundiff who struggled last season, hitting only 76 percent of his FG attempts (28 of 37) and had a crucial miss late in the AFC title game against the Patriots.

Baltimore Ravens PK Billy Cundiff has been doing well during training camp but is still competing with PK Justin Tucker for the kicking job. Cundiff appears to be the favorite for the job at this point.
Huddle Up: The Ravens needed to challenge Cundiff after his 2011 struggles. He only made 75.7 percent (28-of-37) of his field-goal attempts last season and then had his haunting miss late in the AFC title game against the Patriots. Cundiff is looking to regain his 2010 form when he basked in an 89.7 percent (26-of-29) field-goal success rate.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said PK Billy Cundiff has the edge over PK Justin Tucker in the placekicking competition at this point but will have to compete for the job during training camp.
Huddle Up: He botched a chip shot that would have forced overtime against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship. Cundiff also missed five of six kicks from 50+ yards in the regular season.
