Atlanta Falcons CB Asante Samuel left Thursday night's game in the first quarter because of a shoulder injury and did not return.

Huddle Up: Samuel, one of the Falcons' starting corners, didn't practice all week because of his shoulder and was somewhat of a surprise starter Thursday night. However, he landed on his shoulder after defending a deep pass on the Falcons' first defensive series of the game, and left the field with his right arm hanging limply at his side.

Atlanta Falcons DT Peria Jerry (quadricep), CB Dunta Robinson (illness), and CB Asante Samuel (shoulder) all did not participate in practice Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Huddle Up: The Falcons aren't in an ideal spot this week with their starting corners ailing in a short week preparing for Drew Brees and the Saints' passing attack.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith declined to name his starting cornerbacks for Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs. CBs Brent Grimes, Dunta Robinson and Asante Samuel are the three candidates to start, and each is expected to play extensively whether or not they start.

Huddle Up: The Falcons are looking to improve their pass defense which ranked 20th last season in terms of yards allowed. Adding Samuel and having a heathlier Grimes, who was limited to 12 games last season, are good first steps.
