The Arizona Cardinals placed FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 23.

Huddle Up: The Cards weren't expecting Mathieu to be ready for the start of camp, and they're not holding their breath with regards to his availability for the start of the season. While he could still surprise everyone, IDPers shouldn't bank on him being ready to play until midseason.

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) could be healthy enough to play in Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football, according to general manager Steve Keim. Last month, the team believed Mathieu would begin the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list. 'He has been a gym rat,' Keim said. 'He's in here all the time. We have to kick him out of the building and tell him 'Tyrann, go home for a little bit.' He's always in the training room doing his rehab.' Mathieu is recovering from torn anterior and lateral collateral ligaments in his left knee.

Huddle Up: Knee injuries are no longer a death sentence in the NFL, with players consistently returning to action faster than the old timetables suggested they would. Mathieu seems to be on a similar path, though if you're banking on him in an IDP league you'll need to keep closer tabs on his progress once training camp opens.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Sunday, Dec. 8, that FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) appears to have a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Huddle Up: That's a big blow to that defense. If you own him in IDP leagues, he's safe to drop.

A scout said Arizona Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu is pound for pound the best player in Cardinals camp.

Huddle Up: There remain concerns about whether Mathieu is big enough to be an impact player in the NFL, and of course the myriad off-the-field issues, but anyone who watched Mathieu in college knew he could play. And now that he's showing it in an NFL camp, he's worth a look in fantasy leagues where his return yardage factors into play.
