San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2016. He will carry an estimated salary-cap charge of $8.262 million in 2015 and leave the Chargers on the hook for $2.362 million in dead money, should they choose to release Gates. Cutting him will save the team $5.9 million against their 2015 cap. Gates will be 35 years old entering the 2015 season, and the Chargers reportedly want to increase TE Ladarius Green's role in 2014.
Huddle Up: There's little question Gates is on the downslope of his outstanding NFL career, and that Green is San Diego's future at the position. However, the transition may not come as quickly as Green's fantasy backers are expecting as Gates still has a little something left in the tank.

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (hamstring) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 29, and is probable for Week 13.
Huddle Up: Gates was back on the practice field Friday for the first time all week, and should be available Sunday if you need him. Beware, though, as the TE could be somewhat limited and will likely keep losing targets to fellow TE Ladarius Green, who has come on in recent weeks.
