Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said the team remains interested in signing QB Ben Roethlisberger to a contract extension, but nothing likely would occur until the summer at the earliest. Colbert also indicated the team may not be able to reach an agreement with Roethlisberger this offseason.

Huddle Up: Big Ben recorded his highest yardage total (4,261) since 2009 and his most TD passes (28) since 2007 and remains a lower-tier QB1 in most fantasy leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said he wants to sign QB Ben Roethlisberger to a contract extension that would keep him with the team for the rest of his career.

Huddle Up: The Steelers would love to keep Roethlisberger around, and do so in a cap-friendly manner. Sounds like the GM has some work to do this offseason.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to offer QB Ben Roethlisberger a contract extension this offseason. Roethlisberger has two years left on his current contract.

Huddle Up: Despite the personnel changes around him, Big Ben actually posted the second-highest passing yardage (4,261) and TD pass totals (28) of his career, and with franchise QBs at an all-time premium, look for an extension to be forthcoming.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he has no issues with offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and his comments were taken out of context. 'It's unbelievable,' Roethlisberger said. 'It gets blown up and it's by reporters that come in there and ask the dumbest questions after a game, and it makes it ridiculous when they only take part of your answer. 'It was taken way out of context. There is absolutely no issue between coach Haley and I. I love where this offense is right now.'

Huddle Up: There seems to be too much smoke for there not to be a fire here, but no one can debate Big Ben's statistical success of late as he is tied with Peyton Manning for the most TD passes (16) since Week 9 and ranks third in the league with 1,794 passing yards over that span.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (finger) suffered a partial dislocation of his right index finger in Week 4 and was wearing a sleeve on his finger Tuesday, Oct. 1. However, the partial dislocation shouldn't be an issue for him. His injury is minor enough that he asked head coach Mike Tomlin to allow him to practice Tuesday.

Huddle Up: He played just fine through it. He isn't a sexy option, but Roethlisberger is going to have to put it up a lot if the defense continues to falter.

Posted: 9/17/2013 12:53am et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was 20-of-37 for 251 yards, a TD an interception Monday, Sept. 16 in a 20-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Huddle Up: The Steelers only scored 10 points but it still bettered their Week 1 output (9), giving them 2 TDs -- both short Roethlisberger TD passes -- in 2 games. Big Ben was only sacked twice but was on the run most of the night, and given the team's offensive line woes and lack of a running game, all Steelers have to be considered risky fantasy starts until proven otherwise.

Posted: 8/29/2013 7:00pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will not play in the team's final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29.

Huddle Up: Roethlisberger has been bitten by the injury bug in recent seasons, and there's no sense in exposing him to more hits in the meaningless -- at least to the Steelers' starters -- preseason finale.

Posted: 7/27/2013 3:35pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said his right knee is fine even though head coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger was dealing with a little discomfort in the knee.

Huddle Up: Big Ben always seems to be dinged, so there's no real concern here. However, if knee issues linger throughout camp you have to assume that they'll continue to bug Roethlisberger during the season and you may have to plan for him to miss a game or two along the way. In other words, business as usual.

Posted: 7/3/2013 10:37pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said his surgically repaired right knee feels better than ever. "It feels great, it feels better than ever, like it's a brand new knee and I feel younger than ever, I feel good," Roethlisberger said.

Huddle Up: Roethlisberger always seems beaten up and beaten down by the end of the season, so it's nice to know that at least he'll head into 2013 relatively healthy.

Posted: 7/1/2013 5:19pm et

The Pittsburgh Steelers likely will look to sign QB Ben Roethlisberger to a contract extension next offseason because he is scheduled to count $18 million against the salary cap in 2014.

Huddle Up: The Steelers had salary cap issues this offseason and would prefer not to endure the roster purge again next year. With Big Ben is in line for an $18 million hit next year, he's a prime candidate for a long-term, significantly more cap-friendly deal.

Posted: 6/12/2013 12:27am et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) said the recovery from surgery to repair a torn right knee meniscus is going well and that he could play this weekend if he had to. 'It feels great,' Roethlisberger said. 'I saw Doc [James] Bradley this morning. He was pleasantly surprised with the range of motion and where we're at with the swelling. It feels great. I've been off crutches for a couple days now and moving around pretty good. I think I could play Sunday if I had to. According to Doc, the surgery went really well, my knee is in great shape. They took care of the little problem. It had been bothering me a little bit last year and we just decided now is the time to take care of it.'

Huddle Up: Count on Big Ben starting the season, but also count on him missing a game or 3 with the Steelers' lingering offensive line woes and his penchant for finding contact.

Posted: 6/5/2013 2:33pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had minor surgery on his right knee Wednesday, June 5, and is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: Doesn't sound like a major issue, and Big Ben has a couple months to recover before camp starts. But Roethlisberger is already a lock to miss a game or two during the season due to injury; if he's already heading into the season dinged up, that doesn't bode well for his potential production.

Posted: 5/29/2013 5:36pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger met with offensive coordinator Todd Haley several times this offseason and had a lot of input into what worked and what did not last season. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said Haley is giving Roethlisberger more control at the line of scrimmage in terms of check downs and hot reads.

Huddle Up: You may recall last season when Big Ben seemed to have issues with the Steelers new offense and new offensive coordinator, so the fact that Roethlisberger and Haley are collaborating instead of butting heads is good news. Now Roethlisberger can focus on how the Steelers will replace Mike Wallace and come up with a running game.
