Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs said LB D.J. Williams (calf) will start at middle linebacker Week 1. Head coach Marc Trestman said the team has not decided if Williams or LB Jonathan Bostic will start at middle linebacker.
Huddle Up: Bostic, the team's 2nd-round pick, has shown some flashes during the preseason, but it sounds like the Bears would prefer to open the season with more experience in the middle with the 10th-year vet Williams.

Chicago Bears LB D.J. Williams (calf) and WR Earl Bennett
(concussion) and will not play in the team's first preseason game
because of injuries.
Huddle Up: Williams probably could use the extra work more than Bennett as he
is battling rookie Jon Bostic for the starting MLB gig.

Chicago Bears LB D.J. Williams (calf) is in a walking boot. 'I anticipate he'll be ready to go when the doctors clear him, and hopefully that will be sooner than later and that's an opportunity again for our young guys to get reps and for (defensive coordinator) Mel (Tucker) and (linebackers coach) Tim (Tibesar) to move people around and see what people can do,' head coach Marc Trestman said. Rookie LB Jonathan Bostic took over for Williams at middle linebacker in practice Wednesday, July 31, and Bostic could win the starting job if Williams misses enough time.
Huddle Up: Could this open the door for Brian Urlacher's return? That's still a remote possibility at best. Instead, look for the second-round pick Bostic to be given every chance to win the job.
