Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is projected as the three-down back of the future and may see some touches behind RB Steven Jackson. The battle for the third-down role will be between RB Antone Smith and RB Jacquizz Rodgers, whose special-teams impact might be reduced by the presence of WR/KR Devin Hester.

Huddle Up: Jackson looked old and worn down last season, and Rodgers has not been the answer as a change-of-pace guy. Freeman has intriguing upside and could step into a vital fantasy role sooner rather than later in what should be a high-powered Atlanta offense.

Posted: 12/19/2013 12:43pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson was fined $7,875 for a facemask penalty in Week 15.

Huddle Up: Good think Jackson didn't have the wrong color socks or something, then the league really would have cracked down on him.

Posted: 12/2/2013 10:55am et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson had his best game of the season in Week 13 with 23 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

Huddle Up: It was a favorable matchup against the Bills, but it appears that Jackson is finally rounding into form--too late for the Falcons in what has become a lost season, but not too late for fantasy owners to capitalize.

Posted: 11/22/2013 12:04am et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson rushed 16 times for 63 yards and a TD -- his first rushing score of the season -- and added 3 receptions for 16 yards Thursday, Nov. 21 in a 17-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Huddle Up: Hopefully most of Jackson's fantasy owners were still starting the RB to take advantage of his best fantasy game (13 points) of the season. Still, with Jackson without a rushing TD to date and without a double-digit fantasy-point game since the opening week, you can hardly blame his fantasy owners for having moved on.

Posted: 11/13/2013 10:53am et

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants to lean upon RB Steven Jackson more than he has since the running back returned from injury. 'My opinion is Steven Jackson is a workhorse running back and we haven't been able to work him,' Koetter said Tuesday, Nov. 12. 'I mean, I think Steven is one of those guys that gets better the more he touches it.' Jackson's season-high for carries is 13 against the Carolina Panthers.

Huddle Up: The Falcons' defense may prevent them from leaning too heavily on the ground game, and Jackson hasn't looked strong enough to carry the team anyway. Still, it looks like he's at least healthy and he could be looking at 15-20 carries a game going forward.

Posted: 11/8/2013 1:56pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson must average 107.5 yards rushing over the last eight games to extend his streak of 1,000-yard seasons to eight in a row. He has only 140 yards in four games this season, having missed four others with an injury.

Huddle Up: Barring a major reversal of fortune, that's simply not going to happen this year. The Falcons and their offensive line have struggled all season to get anything going on the ground and the team ranks dead-last in the league with a measly 515 rushing yards through 8 games.

Posted: 10/25/2013 4:27pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 25, and is probable for Week 8.

Huddle Up: Jackson owners this is what you've been waiting for since Week 2 but don't expect too many touches right off the bat as the last thing the Falcons want is to aggravate the injury. Jason Snelling (ankle) has been ruled out Sunday, so it will be Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers shouldering the load in Arizona.

Posted: 10/24/2013 4:23pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) is participating in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

Huddle Up: Jackson's participation remains limited, but it's the best sign yet that the RB is getting closer to playing in a game for the first time since Week 2. We'll definitely know more after Friday.

Posted: 10/23/2013 2:36pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, but he'll need to make it through practice this week without a setback in order to start in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling have combined for 319 yards on 93 carries with Jackson out.

Huddle Up: Jackson hopes to play this week, which would kill Jacquizz Rodgers' fantasy value. It's a bit risky to start him after so many weeks off, but Jackson is a viable flex play.

Posted: 10/18/2013 5:17pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7.

Huddle Up: Jackson, who's essentially played 5 quarters this season, will miss his 4th straight contest, leaving the RB chores to Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers.

Posted: 10/18/2013 1:57pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) was out of practice Friday, Oct. 18.

Huddle Up: Jackson hasn't been able to practice all week -- and that's after an extra week of rest during the team's bye -- so plan on him missing a fourth straight game as frustrating as that may be.

Posted: 10/16/2013 10:53am et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson is unlikely to return to action in Week 7.

Huddle Up: Looks like another week of Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers sharing the workload in Atlanta.

Posted: 10/14/2013 7:57pm et

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith would not say if RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) will be able to participate in practice this week.

Huddle Up: This isn't the news Jackson's fantasy owners needed to hear with the RB having missed the Falcons' past 3 games preceeding a bye week. See if the outlook brightens throughout this week.

Posted: 10/5/2013 2:04pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 5.

Huddle Up: This comes as no surprise. Jackson owners are hoping he can return following the Falcons' Week 6 bye. In his absence, Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers will continue to split time against a tough Jets' rush defense. Rodgers is the better flex play this week because of his ability as a receiver.

Posted: 9/24/2013 12:10am et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (hamstring) is expected to miss the Week 4 game against the New England Patriots, and he might miss another two to three weeks, according to a league source. The team has a bye in Week 6, so he might be held out until Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Oct. 20. Jackson suffered a setback in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams, exiting that game immediately. His injury was originally called a thigh injury.

Huddle Up: The Falcons fell in Week 3, but the RBs weren't the issue as Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers combined for 194 total yards, including 139 rushing, on 35 touches. That in mind, the Falcons could very well take the cautious road and hold Jackson out until Week 7.

Posted: 9/17/2013 5:15pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (thigh) has been ruled out for the team's Week 3 game, according to head coach Mike Smith.

Huddle Up: The fantasy RB depth around the league was thin to begin with, and now the injury dominoes are starting to fall, leaving fantasy GMs scrambling for answers. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling are expected to split the workload in Atlanta, but neither is the complete package Jackson is.

Posted: 9/17/2013 10:34am et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson is uncertain for Week 3.

Huddle Up: Jackson suffered a thigh injury in Atlanta's Week 2 loss to the Saints, and comparisons are being made to the injury he suffered last year. That injury knocked Jackson out of one game and sidelined him for another before he was back in the lineup. Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers would split the workload this week if Jackson can't go.

Posted: 8/7/2013 12:27pm et

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson is lining up all over the field and in receiver sets. 'It reminds me of my younger years in St. Louis when I was used more as a receiver out of the backfield,' Jackson said. 'It allows me to use more tools in the shed that I have and possess. It allows me to work on things I haven't done in a number of years.'

Huddle Up: This is exciting for anyone who is high on Steven Jackson. He has always been an excellent pass-catching threat, and putting him in this offense means he could be in store for a huge season, even at his age.

Posted: 7/22/2013 12:45am et

The Green Bay Packers had the chance to acquire RB Steven Jackson from the St. Louis Rams for a seventh-round draft choice last season, but general manager Ted Thompson did not want to pick up Jackson's contract.

Huddle Up: We'll see which strategy -- the Falcons's signing of Jackson or the Packers' drafting Eddie Lacy and Jonathan Franklin -- pays off for a pair of NFC contenders in need of better ground games. The money -- and the fantasy hype -- lies with the Birds and the proven Jackson at this point.
