New England Patriots WRs Michael Jenkins and Donald Jones may have to compete for one roster spot during offseason workouts and training camp because of the additions of WRs Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Julian Edelman.

Huddle Up: Jenkins (40-449-2 with the Vikings) and Jones (41-443-4 with the Bills) are coming off decidedly mediocre seasons in 2012, and even with Tom Brady now throwing them the ball, the winner of the derby shouldn't expect too much of a jump considering all the other weapons in New England.

The New England Patriots signed WR Michael Jenkins (Vikings) Thursday, Mar. 28. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Huddle Up: Jenkins, who will turn 31 in June, is more of a possession option as he he's averaged more than 12.7 yards per catch only once in his past 7 seasons with the Vikings and Falcons.

The Minnesota Vikings have released WR Michael Jenkins.

Huddle Up: This move comes as no surprise. Jenkins could be back with the Vikings given his blocking acumen and familiarity with OC Bill Musgrave from their time together in Atlanta, but expect Minnesota to use the draft and perhaps free agency as well to upgrade their wide receivers.

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Jenkins said he hopes to start at wide receiver in the first three weeks of the season while WR Jerome Simpson serves his suspension.

Huddle Up: Jenkins, who finished second on the squad a year ago with 38 catches for 466 yards and 3 TDs, is in line to serve as a suspension fill-in, but the Vikings like what they have seen from the talented but troubled Simpson, whom they signed as a free-agent in the offseason. And once Simpson returns, any fantasy value Jenkins has will disappear.

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Jenkins agreed last week to re-negotiate the remaining two years of his contract, according to NFL sources. The base pay for 2012 goes from $2.5 million to $1 million, while his base pay for 2013 goes from $2.5 million to $825,000.

Huddle Up: Jenkins' reduced price likely buys him a roster spot, as the Vikings need someone to play wide receiver while Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. The opportunity might make Jenkins a viable plug-in fantasy play during the first month of the season if for some reason your regular receivers are unavailable, but once Simpson returns Jenkins will be a fringe contributor for the Vikings and a complete fantasy afterthought.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and wide receivers coach George Stewart are working to get a plan in place for when WR Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. WR Michael Jenkins is expected to be a big part of the plan. 'Michael Jenkins started for us last year before he hurt a knee,' Stewart said. 'Veteran guy, able to stretch a defense. He made some plays for us last year.'

Huddle Up: Jenkins was quietly one of the biggest first-round busts of the previous decade after being picked 29th overall by Atlanta in 2004. He lacks speed and separation quickness, but he understands spacing and doesn't drop many passes. He'll see a lot of targets as the No. 2 WR while Simpson serves his suspension; but actually starting him in fantasy during those three weeks is unfathomable unless you're in a 14- or 16-team league.
