Michael C. Wright, of The Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB Luke McCown officially passed his physical and was signed by the team Sunday, Sept. 6. McCown needs to learn the playbook in a week just in case something happens to starting QB David Garrard.

The Huddle Take: McCown replaced Todd Boumann as the Jaguars' backup. But seriously, how hard can it be to learn all the different ways to get Maurice Jones-Drew the ball?

Jaguars.com reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired QB Luke McCown from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed draft choice.

The Huddle Take: Another interesting move. McCown would realistically be the prime candidate to back up Garrard. From a fantasy standpoint now it doesn't mean much, as Garrard doesn't usually get 'handcuffed', but worth noting.

Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Luke McCown said he expected the selection of QB Josh Freeman in the first round and is looking forward to compete for the starting job. "I kind of expected it. They are putting together a group of guys that they want to compete, and that's the way that they feel they are going to go about doing it, so the competition is welcome in my eyes. I have a great opportunity. I'm going to take the bull by the horns. I feel like I showed a lot in the early mini-camp. I'm going to keep it up, and keep competing. Like I said it doesn't matter to me who they bring in. I'm going to do my best to make sure that person doesn't get to play. It has been a long time coming and I'm going to make sure that I do everything I can to make sure I'm the one playing," McCown said.

The Huddle Take: McCown and Freeman will join Byron Leftwich in a three-way battle for the keys to the Buccaneer offense, with Josh Johnson likely still in a booster seat in the back and Brian Griese left somewhere along the side of the road.
