Huddle Up: Many believe second-year back C.J. Anderson is actually running ahead of the 2012 third-round pick in the race to back up Montee Ball, but the true tests -- the preseason games themselves -- are yet to come. Avoiding the fumbling issues that plagued him last season will Key No. 1 for Hillman.

Huddle Up: The 2012 3rd-round pick had only 55 rushes and 12 receptions in 9 games a season ago, and is the odds-on favorite for the team's No. 2 RB role provided he can get -- a keep -- his grip on the pigskin during training camp and the preseason.

Huddle Up: There wasn't much suspense to this situation, as Ball played better down the stretch of his rookie campaign and no longer has Knowshon Moreno ahead of him on the depth chart.

Huddle Up: Sounds like Hillman is battling for a roster spot rather than pushing for any sort of meaningful role in the Broncos' backfield rotation. He could still see touches, but unless he improves dramatically it will take an injury or two for Hillman to warrant fantasy consideration.

Huddle Up: For the first time in 3 seasons, the Broncos didn't draft a RB, but that doesn't mean anything is going to be handed to former third-round pick Ronnie Hillman, who must show more consistent production and show he's past his fumbling issues.

Huddle Up: Hillman was actually active the last few games of the regular season, but will only see spare postseason touches as long as Knowshon Moreno and Montee Ball remain healthy.

Huddle Up: Good to know your Week 3 fantasy fortunes may have hinged on Hillman showing a rock to the other backs' scissors, but it's all in fun, right? In any case, it remains a three-way RBBC in the Mile High City, but Ball's late-game fumble -- his second in 2 games -- may result in more touches for Hillman and Moreno over the next few weeks.

Huddle Up: Those who drafted Ball as a starting RB were hoping that Hillman's preseason fumbling issues (3 fumbles, 2 lost) would've vaulted their man to the top of the depth chart, but it looks to a full-bore RBBC in Denver entering the season with all 3 backs expected to share in the early workload.

Huddle Up: Hillman's 1-day demotion pretty much had everything to do with his ball-security issues as he's had two fumbles returned for TDs this preseason. No matter, who starts at RB for the Broncos, however, it's becoming clear that we're likely to see all 3 of the team's top backs -- Hillman, Ball and Knowshon Moreno -- getting work in a game and making it fantasy quagmire.

Huddle Up: Hillman, who has improved his pass blocking and added nearly 20 pounds to his 2012 season-ending frame, has been regarded as the unofficial No. 1 most of the offseason and the first official depth chart put that in writing. The rookie Ball, however, had the best scrimmage of the top three backs Saturday night, and could overtake Hillman if he continues to better his own pass-protection skills.
