The Pittsburgh Steelers may look to sign TE Heath Miller to a contract extension this offseason in order to reduce his 2014 salary cap figure of just under $9.5 million. Miller is entering the final year of his current contract.

Huddle Up: It only makes sense for the Steelers to keep Miller around, and to ease their cap pressure by stretching Miller's contract across a few more years in the process.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (non-injury) was limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Huddle Up: Miller, who should be good to go for Thursday night's showdown with the Ravens, has been targeted 19 times over the past 2 games, resulting in 13 catches for 108 yards. He remains stuck, though, on 1 TD catch for the season after hauling in a career-high 8 scoring passes a year ago.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) won't be restricted in the team's Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Huddle Up: Miller had 3 catches for 35 yards on 4 targets in Week 3 as he played his first game since getting injured last Dec. 23 and expect the progress to be slow and steady.

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) has practiced in full three straight days and says he's ready to return to action in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears, but the decision will be up to the coaching staff. 'Whenever I'm ready to play I think it's unrealistic to think I'm going to come back in midseason form,' said Miller, who caught 71 passes for a career-high 816 yards before shredding his knee in the 15th game last season. 'I've had some positive days this week so we'll evaluate how I felt, how the coaches think I looked, and I'm sure they'll make a decision based on that.'

Huddle Up: Miller is expected to get the OK, and even in his limited condition, his return should provide at least a little lift for a sagging Steelers' offense. On the other hand, expecting much of anything out of Miller fantasy-wise, is likely still a few weeks away.

Posted: 9/17/2013 5:00pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he expects TE Heath Miller (knee) to be a full participant in practice this week.

Huddle Up: David Paulson held his own with 3 catches for 49 yards in Monday night's loss to the Bengals, but the banged up and reeling Steelers, who have managed only 2 TDs in 2 games, need their top players on the field ASAP.

Posted: 9/6/2013 5:42pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) remained limited in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and he is officially listed as doubtful for the Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans. He is expected to miss the regular season opener.

Huddle Up: We've said all along that hoping for Miller's return in Week 1 is wishful thinking, and now it sounds that his absences is all but official. Realistically, he still might be 2-3 weeks away

Posted: 9/4/2013 10:42am et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller has not been ruled out for Week 1. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team will use a committee approach at tight end until Miller returns.

Huddle Up: Miller is working his way back from the knee injury that prematurely ended his 2012 campaign. While he wasn't put on the PUP list, expecting him to be ready to contribute--at least enough to be a fantasy helper--in Week 1 is aggressive.

Posted: 9/3/2013 2:51pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) is close to returning after being activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. However, there is no timetable for his return.

Huddle Up: Miller flew so far below the radar this offseason that he was practically below ground. That wasn't without reason—he is coming back from a torn ACL—but now that he is close to returning to action, it might be time to pick him up off the waiver wire. He was rather good last season, as you may recall.

Posted: 8/27/2013 4:03pm et

The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to remove TE Heath Miller (knee) from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list when the team finalizes its 53-man roster prior to the start of the regular season.

Huddle Up: Miller, who's recovering from surgery on his MCL, and PCL, might avoid the regular-season PUP list, but still isn't expected to be able to contribute the first few weeks of the season. And with backup Matt Spaeth (Lisfranc) also out indefinitely, it's left the PIT TE situation in fantasy no-man's land.

Posted: 8/1/2013 10:55am et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller isn't expected to be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list for a few weeks. He has been running while dragging a weight behind him on a side field.

Huddle Up: Miller was having a breakout fantasy season last year prior to his injury; now it looks like he won't even make it to the field by the start of the season, and there's no timetable for when (or even if) he returns to his previous level of performance.

Posted: 6/17/2013 12:23am et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller is out indefinitely following knee surgery, and there is a strong chance he will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Huddle Up: Miller led the Steelers in catches in 2012 with 71 for a career-high 816 yards, and there's a big dropoff to No. 2 TE Matt Spaeth, who is back in Pittsburgh after 2 seasons with the Bears, but never has recorded more than 17 catches in any of his 6 NFL seasons. This situation, combined with the off-season departure of WR Mike Wallace necessitates dropping QB Ben Roethlisberger's fantasy value a peg or 2.

Posted: 6/16/2013 12:39am et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Matt Spaeth could be the team's starting tight end early in the season if TE Heath Miller is not able to play.

Huddle Up: Miller is working his way back from an ACL injury and his availability for the start of the season is uncertain. Spaeth would be an adequate fill-in, but he wouldn't have nearly the fantasy upside of a healthy Heath.

Posted: 5/23/2013 12:11am et

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller said he is happy with the progress he has made in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but is not sure when he will be able to return. He said he has started to run as part of his rehab. He believes there is a chance he can be ready for the start of the regular season but will know more when training camp begins.

Huddle Up: Doesn't sound as if Miller is overly confident about his availability for the start of the season. He was emerging as a steady fantasy contributor last season prior to his injury, so if he's on the field in training camp he warrants consideration as a low-end fantasy starter.

Posted: 5/5/2013 3:19pm et

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said TE Heath Miller (knee) is on schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Huddle Up: Miller enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2012, hitting career highs in receiving yards (816) and TD catches (8) before injuring his knee in Week 16. With the Steelers not seriously addressing the position in free agency or the draft, Miller will be counted on again in 2013.
