San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said he believes in using multiple running backs that can do different things on offense. "I'm a big believer -- we are big believers -- in a three-headed approach," Baalke said. "In other words, having a group of backs that bring to the table something a little bit different than the other one so you can do a lot of different things. But also having those backs be able to do enough things the same so you don't become so predictable on game day." RBs Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James likely will see playing time this season.

Huddle Up: Baalke's comments are the sharp pin deflating Gore's fantasy value; plan accordingly.

The San Francisco 49ers were the first team in Super Bowl history to have a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard rusher and two 100-yard receivers in the game. QB Colin Kaepernick threw for 302 yards, RB Frank Gore rushed for 100 yards, WR Michael Crabtree recorded 109 receiving yards and TE Vernon Davis recorded 104 receiving yards.

Huddle Up: Small consolation to the Niners, but great news for fantasy players who had any of the San Francisco studs going in the Super Bowl. It's also a positive sign going forward that the 49er offense can be both diverse and productive.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore was fined $10,500 for wearing his socks too low in the NFC Championship game.

Huddle Up: Thankfully we have the NFL's dress code police to protect us from heinous violations like this. What next, shirt not tucked in? Wearing white after Labor Day?

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore posted his first 100-yard rushing game during the playoffs against the Green Bay Packers in the team's NFC Divisional Round playoff win. He had 23 carries for 119 yards rushing with one touchdown. Gore also chipped in 48 yards receiving on two receptions.

Huddle Up: Gore isn't getting any younger, but there's no denying that RBs can prosper playing in the same backfield with rushing QBs as opposing defenses often have to pick their poison.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (knee) was listed a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 28, and he is probable for the Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Huddle Up: Gore and his fantasy owners are looking for a bounce-back game in the finale after the RB hit season lows in carries (6) and yards (28) in Week 16's blowout loss to the Seahawks.

Posted: 12/20/2012 11:31pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (wrist) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 20.

Huddle Up: Facing the Seahawks' defense on the road is a tall task, but the same can be said in Seattle going up against Gore, who rumbled for a season-high 182 total yards in the teams' first meeting in Week 7.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (hand, wrist) was wearing a brace on his hand and wrist Tuesday, Dec. 4. Gore said it was not an issue, and he could play right now if he had to.

Huddle Up: Despite struggling in the yards-per-carry category (only 58 yards on 23 attempts) in Week 13, Gore rescued his fantasy owners with a short scoring run -- his seventh TD of the season. And even with a tough matchup looming Sunday against the Dolphins -- who surrender the fifth-fewest fantasy points to opposing RBs -- it's going to take a fantasy team pretty deep in backs to bench the ninth-ranked RB (Huddle Performance scoring).

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore underwent X-rays on his ribs after the Week 10 tie against the St. Louis Rams. "Just sore," he said. "It's cool." Gore finished with 97 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Huddle Up: Gore is already ceding a handful of carries each week to Kendall Hunter; sore ribs might put a couple more touches on Hunter's plate, but this doesn't sound like it will be a major issue going forward.

Posted: 11/7/2012 11:11pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (hand) was able to fully participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Huddle Up: Gore has been one of fantasy's most productive backs with 775 total yards and 4 TDs over the first half of the season. The final 8 games, however, figure to be more challenging with the stout run defenses of the Dolphins, Bears, Patriots and Seahawks on the itinerary.

Posted: 10/27/2012 10:18pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ribs) is officially listed as probable for the Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Oct. 29. He said Saturday, Oct. 27, that his rib pain has 'lessened a lot,' and he feels ready to play.

Huddle Up: Gore should be set up for a decent second half of the season if he can stay healthy.

Posted: 10/22/2012 7:21pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ribs) was participating in practice Monday, Oct. 22.

Huddle Up: Great sign for Gore's avaiablity for Week 8, especially considering the Niners still have a full week before playing the Cardinals on Monday, Oct. 29.

Posted: 10/20/2012 10:04pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (rib) should be ready for the team's Week 8 game. The rib injury he suffered in Week 7 is 'minor,' according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Huddle Up: It always looked decent for Gore, who has a few extra days of rest with the Niners not playing until Monday, Oct. 29.

Posted: 10/19/2012 5:28pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ribs) said he sustained bruised ribs in Week 7 and underwent X-rays after the game but they came back negative. He said he sat out the final eight minutes of the game because of sore ribs but expects to be fine moving forward.

Huddle Up: Gore owners can breathe a sigh of relief. It would have been tragic for them to lose him for any period of time after his masterful performance against a good Seattle defense.

Posted: 10/18/2012 11:56pm et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore rushed 16 times for a game-high 131 yards and led all pass catchers in the game with 5 receptions for 51 yards Thursday night in his team's 13-6 win over the Seattle Seahawks,

Huddle Up: Gore was close to a one-man wrecking crew in a defensive game -- becoming the first player this season to top 100 yards against the Hawks -- but he apparently was injured late and wasn't on the field for the team's final 2 offensive possessions. Gore, however, will have a few extra days to recover as the Niners don't play again until the Monday night game on Oct. 29.
