San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore is unlikely to play in the preseason this year. RBs Carlos Hyde and Jewel Hampton have both looked good so far during training camp. The injuries to RBs Kendall Hunter (knee) and LaMichael James (elbow) have left the team thin at the running back position. RB Marcus Lattimore isn't practicing yet due to physical limitations and not the mental side of his recovery from a significant knee injury in college.

Huddle Up: With the 49ers thin at RB, it makes sense that the team doesn't want to risk injury to Gore. Hyde will get plenty of opportunities to shine this preseason and secure a job as the 49ers No. 2 and goal line back this season.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore should see around 220 carries this season, according to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. Gore carried the ball 276 times last year.

Huddle Up: It's no surprise Gore's touches are in decline, given his advancing age and the Niners' ever-expanding stable of young runners. The projected 276-to-220 drop would cost Gore about four carries a game and leave him on the wrong side of 15, which is why his fantasy value is taking a similar nosedive.

San Francisco 49ers rookie RB Carlos Hyde will likely receive more work behind starting RB Frank Gore than will second-year player Marcus Lattimore (knee), who is recovering from a major knee injury.

Huddle Up: Lattimore has yet to show the pre-injury ability in San Francisco, which is partly why the Niners spent a second-round pick on Hyde. Both could eventually move into the backfield currently led by Frank Gore, though Hyde seems the more likely immediate successor and therefor the better fantasy option at this juncture.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (finger) will undergo 'minor' surgery on his broken right ring finger, according to a league source. He played with the injury in the NFC Championship Game and finished with only 11 carries for 14 yards in the game.

Huddle Up: Gore, who will turn 31 in May, should be good to go by the time OTAs roll around. He's led the Niners in rushing in each of the past 9 seasons, but his total touches (292) decreased for the third straight season and that trend should even pick up more speed next fall.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle, knee) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 20.

Huddle Up: Gore is dealing with some injuries but he's a still a strong play this week against a Falcons' defense that can't stop anyone right now from running over them. Gore is a must-start this week unless you have a lot of other quality options to pick from.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) left the Week 14 game against the Seattle Seahawks late in the fourth quarter, apparently aggravating his ankle injury. He was able to return and finish the game after a brief absence. He ended up going over 100 yards on the ground, including a season-long 51-yard scamper to set up the game-winning field goal.

Huddle Up: He looked fine after the play. He was just gassed.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 28.

Huddle Up: The ankle issue is appearing to limit Gore in games of late as well as the RB only has a combined 90 scrimmage yards on 29 touches over the Niners' last 2 games and hasn't scored 3 straight contests. Gore is a tough player to bench, but definitely factor in his struggles when weighing your RB options now that the bye weeks are over.

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore rushed for 153 yards and a TD on 20 carries Thursday, Sept. 26 as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the St. Louis Rams, 35- 11.

Huddle Up: Not only was it a season high for Gore, but his yardage total eclipsed the combined total (142) from his first 3 games by 11 yards -- much to the delight of those who started Gore with hopes of a fast Week 4 fantasy start. It could've been a lot better, though, as backps Anthony Dixon and Kendall Hunter ran for scores in the second half rotating in for Gore, who had already compiled 107 yards at the break.

Posted: 9/25/2013 9:23am et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore was able to take part in a full practice session Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Huddle Up: Good news for Gore, as the Niners play the Thursday game this week in St. Louis.

Posted: 9/23/2013 9:19am et

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore was angry with head coach Jim Harbaugh after the Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He reportedly had words with Harbaugh near the end of the game. Gore managed just four touches in the second half.

Huddle Up: The entire 49ers squad looked discombobulated Sunday; whether it had anything to do with the Aldon Smith situation is unclear, but San Francisco was definitely a shell of the team we saw in last year's Super Bowl--and even in Week 1 of this year. We'll see what transpires as Harbaugh tries to get the club back on track, specifically as it relates to Gore and the ground game.
