The Sports Network reports the Philadelphia Eagles have signed unrestricted free-agent TE Alex Smith (Patriots) to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Huddle Take: As stated here a few days ago, Smith was going to be picked up somewhere, we thought maybe New Orleans, but as it turns out he goes to Philly. His value would have been much higher somewhere else. At this point he's not worthy of too much fantasy consideration, but should be monitored.

The Boston Herald reports New England Patriots TE Alex Smith said he is not worried about the trade rumors because they are not in his control but is ready to help a team this season. 'Whether I'm here or I'm somewhere else, I know I have a job to do. To be on the field get to know the offense as quickly as possible so I can be a factor,' Smith said.
The Huddle Take: Don't be surprised if something happens between the Patriots and Saints with the injury to Billy Miller. Smith has proven he's capable of being a solid TE in the right situation and this could be it. No need to stash him away on your roster just yet, but if he goes to the Saints his value obviously increases.

PewterReport.com reports the New England Patriots gave a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for TE Alex Smith.
The Huddle Take: The Patriots already have a couple extra second-rounders in the 2010 draft, so parting with a fifth-rounder shouldn't hinder their ability to work the draft board.

Patriots.com reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded TE Alex Smith to the New England Patriots for an undisclosed 2010 draft choice.
The Huddle Take: New England gets a solid tight end option to add to its lethal collection of offensive weapons. With Tom Brady returning from season-ending knee surgery it would not be hard to imagine the tight end position playing even more of a role in New England early in the season. Alex Smith should be considered a No. 2 tight end with the potential to be a No. 1 for fantasy teams t his year.

The National Football Post reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to trade TE Alex Smith prior to the NFL Draft.
The Huddle Take: It will likely only be a matter of time before Smith lands with another team with Tampa Bay signing former Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. Smith could even be part of a draft day deal to a team that misses out on the top young tight ends coming into the NFL this season.

The Tampa Tribune reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Alex Smith (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 20. He may not play in the team's Week 12 game.
The Huddle Take: Tight ends in the Buccaneer offense tend to be productive, but they've been using multiple players and splintering the fantasy value. If Smith is out again this week, that bodes well for Jerramy Stevens to put up solid numbers.
