Updating a previous report, Scott Petrak, of The Medina County Gazette, reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson (knee) has a tear in his medial collateral ligament. He does not need surgery but will miss the rest of the season. He will be placed on Injured Reserve this week.
The Huddle Take: Anderson's already lost his starting job to Brady Quinn for next season, and now has lost his chance to audition for the rest of the NFL this season. Ken Dorsey now takes over in Cleveland.

FOXSports.com reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson will return to a starting role with Brady Quinn (finger) done for the year.
The Huddle Take: Anderson is either making a last-ditch effort to keep his Cleveland job or, more likely, auditioning for a suitor for an offseason trade. Either way, he has the weapons (Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, and a solid offensive line) to be productive, though the Browns' late-season schedule—save for a Week 16 matchup with the Bengals—is hardly conducive for fantasy success.

The NFL Network reports the Cleveland Browns will look to trade QB Derek Anderson by March 15, 2009, if QB Brady Quinn performs well. Anderson is owed a $5 million roster bonus at that date.
The Huddle Take: The main question is how much can Brady Quinn develop this year and is he the future of the Browns. It is apparent that Anderson is slowly wearing out his welcome in Cleveland due to his lackluster performance and the fact that Quinn is sitting on the bench with a a large contract. Fantasy owners should consider Quinn worth owning in Dynasty or keeper leagues but his upside is limited as a fantasy starter this year in seasonal formats due to his lack of experience at the present time.

Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel said Monday, Nov. 3, QB Derek Anderson is the team's starting quarterback 'as of right now.' Anderson was 17-for-33 passing with 219 yards, two touchdowns and one interception returned for a game-clinching touchdown in Week 9.
The Huddle Take: There's a ringing endorsement for you. Fans were calling for Brady Quinn soon after Anderson threw an interception returned for a Baltimore TD that sealed the game. It's dire for Anderson now, but one good game would keep the heat off for a little while. That good came could be this Thursday at home against the Broncos' weak secondary.

Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson was 18-for-29 for 310 yards with two touchdown passes Week 6.
The Huddle Take: Brady Quinn, you might as well get comfortable on the pine, becasue that's where you're going to be for a while. Anderson has once again seized firm control of the Browns' starting QB slot. He hasn't yet proven that he's a must-start from a Fantasy perspective, though. If he does the same thing on the road against a riled-up Redskin defense, then Anderson may be worth trusting the rest of the way.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson went 15-for-24 for 138 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the team's Week 4 game.
The Huddle Take: Despite the performance leading the Browns to victory, Anderson is not playing at the same level as last season. Expect Cleveland to turn to backup quarterback Brady Quinn at some point in the near future if he continues to struggle for consistency.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson will start the team's Week 4 game.
The Huddle Take: With the Browns at 0-3 and Brady Quinn waiting in the wings, Anderson had better jump all over the Bengals early because the leash will be short.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel made it clear Monday, Sept. 22, he is considering benching QB Derek Anderson and starting QB Brady Quinn Week 4. Crennel said, 'I think we'll definitely try to get the other guy [Quinn] ready to go and we'll see how it progresses from there. We'll probably give him a few more reps in practice right now.' Crennel said he wouldn't wait until the bye week following the Week 4 if he decides to make a change. Crennel added, 'If we decided to go with [Quinn], we'd just have to put it on what we've seen in practice and what we feel he's able to do. Because there's no hard evidence that says he'd have more success.'
The Huddle Take: This was bound to happen when Anderson couldn't find his 2007 self for an extended period of time. As a for instance, Braylon Edwards has been thrown to 27 times, with seven receptions. This just won't cut it from a veteran. The team knows it has to see what Quinn has and if Anderson doesn't put them in a position to win, Quinn may as well be learning the job. This one could get messy, potentially causing a mess for owners who grabbed Anderson early.

The Medina County Gazette reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson (forearm) will likely start for the team in Week 4. However, he could have a quick hook should he struggle. QB Brady Quinn will likely receive more reps during practice this week. Head coach Romeo Crennel said the staff was evaluating every position on the team, including quarterback.
The Huddle Take: Anderson will likely be playing for his NFL career against the Bengals this week. It's hard to recommend sitting someone against the Bengals, but unless Anderson is you absolute best option, you'd be well served going with someone else.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson went 14-for-37 for 125 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the team's Week 3 game. He was also sacked four times in the game.
The Huddle Take: Anderson continues to struggle for a Browns team that appears to be out of sync early in the season. If Anderson continues to have problems moving the offense, the Browns could be forced to give backup quarterback Brady Quinn some time to play in the coming weeks. Fantasy owners should bench Anderson in light of his performance until he works his way out of the doldrums.
