The New York Daily News reports the New York Jets' quarterback competition between QBs Mark Sanchez and Kellen Clemens is a virtual dead heat. Due to his edge in experience, Clemens should look better than Sanchez at this stage, but that hasn't happened.
The Huddle Take: With that kind of talk coming out of camp so soon into it, the tea leaves are telling us that Sanchez is looking better and better as the probable starter in Week 1.

The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said QB Kellen Clemens is opening training camp as the No. 1 quarterback but is still in an open competition with QB Mark Sanchez. Clemens will receive most of the first-team reps at the start of camp.
The Huddle Take: Look for Clemens to start the season in New York as the No. 1 quarterback since he has the experience and the team needs to evaluate him to see what he can do. There is obviously some concern here since the Jets spent a high draft pick on Mark Sanchez who appears to be viewed as the quarterback of the future in New York.

The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the quarterback competition is going to be 'fierce.' QB Kellen Clemens continued to work with the first team Tuesday, June 9, and outperformed rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has the stronger arm, and was throwing lasers in a one-on-one drill, but he has to avoid mistakes. He threw an interception during 7-on-7 drills, which was returned for a touchdown. Ryan wants Sanchez to also improve his voice, as he wants Sanchez to be louder and more inflective with his cadence.
The Huddle Take: Clemens has the inside track to be the starter this year for the Jets especially with the loss of Brett Favre to retirement and rookie Mark Sanchez going through adjustments to the NFL game. Expect the rookie to make some noise in training camp but barring an injury Clemens should be the starter when the season gets underway.

New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said QBs Mark Sanchez and Kellen Clemens are going to compete for the team's starting quarterback job. Head coach Rex Ryan said the team wouldn't have traded up for Sanchez if they didn't think he had the ability to compete for the starting job. "I think it's going to be a great competition and we'll see what happens," Ryan said.
The Huddle Take: Sure, it'll be a competition, but odds are the guy the Jets just dealt three players and the first day of their draft for will win.

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports Jets QB Kellen Clemens separated himself from QB Brett Ratliff during the team's minicamp practices. Clemens earned praise from head coach Rex Ryan for his effort.
The Huddle Take: Jets fans should be thrilled that Clemens is separating himself from an undrafted free agent who spent a year on the practice squad and has yet to throw his first regular-season NFL pass.

Newsday reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he was impressed with QB Kellen Clemens during practice Friday, April 17. "I thought he looked outstanding today. I really liked how he took charge of the offense today," Ryan said.
The Huddle Take: Ryan's comments would indicate that, not surprisingly, Clemens is the front-runner to replace Brett Favre at the Jets' helm. That said, it would hardly come as a shock should Gang Green spend a first-round pick on Josh Freeman.

NewYorkJets.com reports Jets QB Kellen Clemens said he is ready to be the team's starting quarterback if QB Brett Favre retires. "I feel ready to become the player that I was drafted here to be. It's been a good opportunity for me this year to sit back and learn and we'll see how things shake out next year," Clemens said.
The Huddle Take: Clemens may believe he is ready, but what matters is whether the Jets believe he's ready. And since the Jets can't expect Favre to make a timely decision for them, we should know by the time the draft rolls around if they think Clemens is their guy or if they're looking in another direction.
