Baltimore Ravens TE Owen Daniels admitted that he was dealing with a hamstring issue during the last couple weeks of training camp.

Huddle Up: If Daniels is gimpy, that only makes Dennis Pitta a stronger TE1 option this Sunday against the Bengals.

  • Posted: 8/21/2014 3:41pm ET

Baltimore Ravens TE Owen Daniels (leg) is not participating in practice Thursday, Aug. 21, and is not expected to play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 23.

Huddle Up: Dennis Pitta's value inches up with each day Daniels misses.

  • Posted: 6/8/2014 5:55pm ET

Baltimore Ravens TE Owen Daniels said he and TE Dennis Pitta will catch a lot of passes this upcoming season because of the scheme offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak has brought to the team. 'We will [catch a lot of balls]. That's just the way this offense is built,' Daniels said. 'I'm sure Dennis will be happy with it.'

Huddle Up: The numbers back that up as Houston TEs averaged a combined 105.7 receptions a season over the last 3 years while Baltimore TEs averaged 84.0 over the same span.

  • Posted: 5/30/2014 6:25pm ET

Baltimore Ravens TE Owen Daniels did not really stand out in practice Friday, May 30. Daniels did not get much separation from defensive players. Daniels is coming off a broken leg from last season.

Huddle Up: At this juncture Daniels is looking less like a guy Gary Kubiak brought in to be a factor at tight end and more like a veteran Kubiak brought in to show younger players like Dennis Pitta how Kubiak's system works.

  • Posted: 4/6/2014 3:53pm ET

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said TE Owen Daniels will have a big role in the offense this upcoming season. 'Just couldn't be more happy, more excited. I guarantee his role will be plenty big,' Harbaugh said. 'He's going to have a lot to do with our success next year, and we've got a lot of big plans for him.'

Huddle Up: New Ravens OC Gary Kubiak loves his TEs, but will there be enough fantasy production to go around with Daniels and incumbent Dennis Pitta? If both are healthy for the majority of 2014, neither likely will be startable in standard-size fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 4/3/2014 11:38pm ET

TE Owen Daniels signed an undisclosed 1-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, April 3. Daniels and TE Dennis Pitta are expected to be on the field often in two-tight end sets. The Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers were also interested in Daniels.

Huddle Up: Daniels, who was limited to a career-low 5 games and 24 receptions this past season due to a fractured fibula, should have a smooth transition with former-Texans coach Gary Kubiak bringing his TE- friendly offense to Baltimore. Daniels' signing, however, is not necessarily the best of fantasy news for starting TE Dennis Pitta.

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels has one more year on his contract at $4.5 million cash that comes with a $6.25 million cap hit. The Texans might not be able to keep both Daniels and TE Garrett Graham, and another team could afford to pay Graham like a starting tight end. The team would save only somewhere around $3.5 million in cap space if they released Daniels, but he might be a good influence on TE Ryan Griffin's development. Beat writer Tania Ganguli feels that it makes sense for the team to bring Daniels back in 2014.

Huddle Up: Houston has consistently made fantasy contributors out of its tight ends, though they'll be running a different offense next season so that trend may no longer continue. And with Graham also on the market and Griffin looking good in extended late-season action, the Texans may opt to spend money elsewhere.

  • Posted: 12/17/2013 12:18am ET

Houston Texans interim head coach Wade Phillips said Monday, Dec. 16, that TE Owen Daniels (leg) might return in Week 16. 'I don't know. I think it's still a might situation this week, as far as him practicing,' Phillips said.

Huddle Up: Daniels hasn't played since Week 5, and his prolonged absence has been one of the many downers in a Texans' season rife with them. He's a risky fantasy play even if he does return.

  • Posted: 12/4/2013 1:01pm ET

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he expects TE Owen Daniels (leg) to play again at some point this season. Daniels has been ruled out for Week 14.

Huddle Up: It'll probably be too little, too late for anyone who might have hung onto Daniels.

  • Posted: 12/3/2013 9:04pm ET

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels (leg) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Dec. 3. Head coach Gary Kubiak said Daniels worked out with trainers on the side.

Huddle Up: With the Texans up against a short week, it looks as if Daniels will miss an 8th straight game.

  • Posted: 11/26/2013 10:20am ET

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday, Nov. 25, that TE Owen Daniels (knee) is 'real close' to returning. He is currently on the Injured Reserve/designated-to-return list.

Huddle Up: While Daniels has been out, Garrett Graham has more than adequately filled the Texans' tight end needs. If/when Daniels returns, he and Graham will split the looks in what has historically been a role that produces fantasy points--not necessarily enough for two starters, but at least for one and a spot starter.

  • Posted: 11/13/2013 5:00pm ET

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels (leg) said he will start running next week. Daniels is currently on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list.

Huddle Up: It doesn't sound like he's on track to return soon—he might not be back until it's too late, if he even returns this year given Houston's record.

  • Posted: 10/9/2013 11:27am ET

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels was placed on Injured Reserve designated to return, which means he'll miss at least eight weeks.

Huddle Up: Eight weeks essentially wipes out the remainder of the fantasy regular season for Daniels--and opens an obvious window of opportunity for Garrett Graham.

  • Posted: 10/8/2013 12:19pm ET

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels will be sidelined four to six weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his fibula.

Huddle Up: Garrett Graham's fantasy value sees a sharp uptick given the way the Texans use their tight ends.

  • Posted: 10/7/2013 11:57pm ET

The Houston Texans are worried the fibula injury to TE Owen Daniels might be serious enough to sideline him for a few weeks.

Huddle Up: As if the Texans needed more worries with a three-game losing streak and a slumping QB, now the health of their second-leading receiver (24-252-3) is in question. If Daniels does miss any time, though, fellow TE Garrett Graham -- already much involved in the offense with 15 catches, 141 yards and 3 TDs -- would see even more targets.

  • Posted: 9/28/2013 1:07am ET

Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and is listed as probable for Week 4.

Huddle Up: Daniels has a modest 12 catches for 103 yards so far, but the Texans love targeting their TEs in the red zone, and sure enough, Daniels has a trio of scoring receptions, only one off the league TE pace.
