Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen said the team never came close to trading QB Kirk Cousins during the draft.

Huddle Up: For now, it looks like the 2012 4th-round pick will spend a third straight season backing up RGIII. Cousins has started 4 games in his first 2 seasons.

The Cleveland Browns offered the Washington Redskins a fourth-round pick for QB Kirk Cousins, according to sources. However, the Redskins wanted a higher pick, likely a second-round pick.

Huddle Up: The Browns were always viewed as the most likely destination for Cousins, given their need for a quarterback and new OC Kyle Shanahan's familiarity with the Redskins roster. However, drafting Johnny Manziel in the first round, as well as Washington's asking price, should put an end to the Cousins-to-Cleveland speculation.

The Cleveland Browns could consider pursuing a trade for Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins since they have 10 draft picks.

Huddle Up: Ah, we see the Cousins-Browns trade rumors are heating up again, just in time for the upcoming draft. One way or another, the Browns will emerge with a new QB over the next few weeks with Brian Hoyer being the only experienced signal-caller currently on the roster.

The Washington Redskins would look to acquire a second-round draft choice if they are willing to trade QB Kirk Cousins this offseason. It is not known if the team has had any trade talks with other teams.

Huddle Up: Cousins was a third-round selection a couple years back, so getting a second-rounder would be a big plus for the Redskins. Whether they can actually make that happen, however, remains to be seen; a third-round pick seems a far more likely price.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins isn't expected to be traded unless some team grossly overpays for him. It is believed Cousins hurt his stock and value by struggling in three starts in December, and will not come close to fetching a high-round draft pick.

Huddle Up: Cousins threw for only 747 yards, 4 TDs and 5 INTs in his 3 starts, and it's looking like he'll spend at least another season backing up RGIII.

With the Cleveland Browns hiring former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, there is speculation that the Browns could make a play to trade for Redskins backup QB Kirk Cousins, after he expressed a desire to be traded in order to be a starter with a team. Shanahan has spent the last two years coaching Cousins in Washington.

Huddle Up: It doesn't take much to connect the dots: the Browns need a quarterback, Shanahan has worked with Cousins, and Cousins wants out. In fact, it makes so much sense it probably won't happen.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is open to being traded in hopes of becoming a starting quarterback. Cousins has already talked to the team about possibly being moved. One team that could show interest in Cousins is the Cleveland Browns.

Huddle Up: With RGIII entrenched in D.C., there's no future for Cousins with the Skins, and with new coach Jay Gruden taking the reins, look for the team to deal him to the highest bidder and upgrade another area of need.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed only 19 of his 49 pass attempts for 169 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble in the Week 17 game against the New York Giants. His record dropped to 0-3 as a starter this season. Beat writer Tarik El-Bashir feels that previous talk of Cousins being traded for a second-round draft pick might have been premature.

Huddle Up: There are still plenty of quarterback-needy teams who will be going over three games of Cousins film, so the Redskins can expect to field some phone calls this offseason.

The feeling inside the Washington Redskins' facility is that head coach Mike Shanahan will star QB Kirk Cousins in Week 15 unless QB Robert Griffin III can talk him out of it.

Huddle Up: Yep, sounds like the Redskins are every bit as dysfunctional as we think. Cousins has demonstrated his competency in previous action, and it's an extremely favorable matchup with the Falcons so if you're in a bind and RG3 sits Cousins is a viable fantasy option.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) suffered a left knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos, and he was replaced by QB Kirk Cousins. Griffin did not return to the game as a precaution.

Huddle Up: Hopefully there is nothing major here. Griffin left after a fourth-quarter interception that essentially iced the game.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins (foot) has a mild foot sprain with no damaged ligaments.

Huddle Up: Best possible news for the QB, but we might not see him again for awhile as Rex Grossman figures to start the remaining 2 preseason games and RGIII is expected back for Week 1.

Posted: 8/20/2013 10:13am et

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is scheduled to have an MRI Tuesday, Aug. 20, on his injured right foot. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Monday, Aug. 19, that the team is hopeful that the injury to Cousins is not serious. "(The medical staff) feel like it's mild right now," Shanahan said. "So that's a good sign."

Huddle Up: Cousins is the backup plan to Robert Griffin III, but he's been an effective plan when called upon. And with RG3 still seeking official clearance for the season opener, the Redskins need to have Cousins available just in case.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins (foot) had X-rays on his foot -- injured during a preseason game on Monday, Aug. 19 -- but they came back negative. The injury is being called a mid-foot sprain.

Huddle Up: Ironically, Cousins -- who, of course, has been starting this preseason for the injured RGIII -- was injured scrambling outside the pocket when he was tackled on the sideline by the Steelers' Lawrence Timmons. Depending on the severity, Cousins' preseason might be done, but all signs point toward Griffin starting in Week 1.
