The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said one of the team's main objectives this offseason is to sign WR Miles Austin to a long-term contract. Jones said it will be difficult because of the potential of an uncapped year in 2010 and the uncertainty that lies ahead.
The Huddle Take: Austin is without question the Cowboys' top wideout and he has developed nice rapport with quarterback Tony Romo in the offense. It would certainly be a big win for Dallas if they could lock him up on a long-term deal and provide the Dallas offense with some stability for many years to come at the position. Austin is a solid No. 1 receiver for fantasy teams at a position that has been vital to success in past years.

Matt Mosley, of ESPN.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys will likely sign WR Miles Austin to a long-term contract before placing the franchise tag on him. Austin will likely become a restricted free agent this offseason and be eligible for the first- and third-round tender of $3.1 million from the Cowboys.
The Huddle Take: The Cowboys could end up using the franchise tag as a last resort to buy more time for a long-term deal, but it sounds like everything is proceeding towards a deal getting done before the franchise tag becomes necessary.

Todd Archer, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he wants to sign WR Miles Austin to a long-term contract. Austin will be a restricted free agent for the second straight season provided the NFL and the players association do not reach an accord on a new collective bargaining agreement.
The Huddle Take: The Cowboys will likely have the luxury of treating Austin as an RFA due to the lack of a collective bargaining agreement, which buys them time to work out the details of a long-term deal for a receiver who emerged as Tony Romo's top target this season.

Todd Archer, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Cowboys WR Miles Austin, who is an impending restricted free agent, said he wants to re-sign with the team during the offseason but knows that the decision is up to the Cowboys. The Cowboys likely will tender him an offer that would give them a first-round and third-round draft choice if another team signs him and the Cowboys do not match. The team likely will start long-term contract negotiations after they tender him the offer.
The Huddle Take: Austin emerged as Tony Romo's go-to guy, so at minimum the Cowboys will tender him at the highest level. Certainly they'd like to ink him to a long-term agreement, but they're already overpaying Roy Williams and the RFA tag will allow them to keep Austin's price tag down... at least for now.

ESPNDallas.com, reports Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said he wants to sign impending restricted free-agent WR Miles Austin to a long-term contract during the offseason.
The Huddle Take: Austin has been nothing short of incredible this season and Dallas would certainly want to ltry and lock up his services as he has been arguably the Cowboys best wideout. The talented receiver will likely be a hot commodity if he hits the open market but Dallas will likely not let that happen.

The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin (thumb) underwent X-rays on his left thumb after the team's Week 16 game. The results of the X-rays were negative. Austin said the thumb is feeling better.
The Huddle Take: Look for Austin to be fine against the Eagles, but of course, make sure you check back with us often throughout the week to make sure.

The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin drew double coverage for the first time this season against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. 'Miles only had the one catch, but he really was open quite a bit,' head coach Wade Phillips said. 'They jammed him at the line. They doubled him some, which we hadn't seen. A lot of times he was open, but it wasn't the read Tony had.'
The Huddle Take: He had his most meager showing of his last four games and still managed to snag a 49-yard touchdown pass to swing the game into Dallas' favor. More teams will employ the double coverage tactic on Austin going forward in all likelihood. If they do, that will obviously open up more space for Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton. The biggest beneficiary, however, could be Jason Witten, who has been basically a non-factor from a Fantasy perspective all season. If you have Witten, however, there's a very good chance you'll be getting strong production from him as long as Austin and the rest of the Dallas WR corps remains healthy and effective.

Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin set the franchise record for most receiving yards in consecutive games Week 7. Austin topped the 42-year-old record held by former WR Lance Rentzel, who had 368 receiving yards in back-to-back games. Austin has 421 receiving yards in consecutive games.
The Huddle Take: Austin is rewriting the Cowboy record books, erasing storied names like Rentzel and Bob Hayes. He's certainly stepped up his game to replace Terrell Owens as the Cowboys' deep threat and is well on his way to usurping Roy Williams as the No. 1 receiver in Dallas—if he hasn't already.

The Associated Press reports Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in Week 7. It was his second career start, starting in place of WR Patrick Crayton.
The Huddle Take: What can you say about Miles Austin but WOW. Austin has quickly emerged as the go to receiver for Dallas and has posted back to back huge games the last two weeks. Roy Williams even returned to action in Week 7 and did very little compared to Austin who is playing at a very high level for the Cowboys. Austin is a solid No. 2 wideout option with tremendous upside for the second half of the year.
Posted: 10/22/2009 12:47pm et
ESPNDallas.com reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips acknowledged that WR Miles Austin will start in Week 7.
The Huddle Take: Much to the chagrin of Patrick Crayton, Austin is now the No. 2 Cowboy receiver. Dallas plays the Falcons, who lost starting cornerback Brian Williams for the season last Sunday, so there may be an opportunity for Austin to put up good numbers.
