Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick could have a bigger role running the ball in 2016, according to offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.

Huddle Up: With 46 more receptions (118) than rushing attempts (72) in three seasons, Riddick certainly has been classified in the Shane Vereen category of pass-catching backs, but he certainly looks to be line for more carries with only second-year Ameer Abdullah currently ahead of him on the Motor City RB depth chart.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick posted two receptions in the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears to set a club record for catches by a running back (78) in a single season.

Huddle Up: Riddick was a valuable PPR contributor as Detroit's pass-catching back, worth keeping an eye on as things shake out in Detroit this offseason.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick leads all running backs in targets (36), is tied for second in receiving touchdowns (2) and is fourth in receiving yards (228).

Huddle Up: With 30 catches for 228 yards and the two TDs, Riddick has been the fantasy MVP for the winless Lions, and is an every-week PPR-league starting consideration.

  • Posted: 10/11/2015 11:48pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick had a team-high 10 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown in a 42-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.

Huddle Up: The Lions simply can't run the football right now so Riddick is the best fantasy option as a receiver out of the backfield. He's a viable Flex play in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 10/6/2015 10:01am ET

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick ran once for five yards in the Week 4 game against the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Oct. 5, and he added five receptions for 31 yards.

Huddle Up: Seattle's swarming defense limited what the Lions could do offensively, but Riddick again carved out PPR value with five receptions. It's a role he seems locked into, even with Ameer Abdullah on the roster, so if you're scraping for a PPR RB replacement for Lance Dunbar Riddick might be your low-cost alternative.

  • Posted: 9/10/2015 10:42am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is a better receiver than the team thought he was, and beat writer Tim Twentyman said Abdullah is a better receiver than former Lions RB Reggie Bush was. The team figures to use Abdullah a lot in the receiving game, and his role will likely dip into RB Theo Riddick's role.

Huddle Up: All Abdullah does is impress; eventually he's going to take the Lions' starting job outright, with Riddick and Joique Bell fighting for table scraps. Fantasy owners who spent an early pick on the rookie hope Detroit's coaching staff comes to their senses sooner rather than later.

  • Posted: 8/10/2015 7:48pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart since RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list. RB Ameer Abdullah is listed as the No. 2 running back on the depth chart.

Huddle Up: By the time the games that count arrive, all three (Riddick, Bell and Abdullah) should be ready to go, giving the Motown RB situation the early look of a fantasy quagmire. Definitely a situation to keep tabs on this preseason to see if any one of the trio separates himself -- either moving ahead or falling behind.

  • Posted: 8/9/2015 4:39pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick is expected to have a similar role in 2015 than he did last season but could see more time in the slot.

Huddle Up: All three of the Lions' top backs -- Joique Bell, Ameer Abdullah and Riddick -- are solid to strong receivers, but Riddick is more of a pure pass-catcher than RB in the Shane Vereen mold with 38 career receptions to only 29 carries. His best value comes late in PPR leagues.
