Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon will be the featured running back with RB Giovani Bernard mixed in, according to director of player personnel Duke Tobin.

Huddle Up: This was to be expected, especially with the departure of Jeremy Hill. The Bengals need to better fortify their offensive line to give Mixon better opportunities for success, but Mixon has an RB2 floor if he can keep good health.

  • Posted: 12/29/2017 12:48pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 17.

Huddle Up: Bernard is ready to play and could receive another start if Joe Mixon is not ready to play in Week 17. He will be facing a tough Baltimore Ravens defense this week but could be at least a flex option in leagues if he starts.

  • Posted: 12/28/2017 1:46pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RBs Joe Mixon (ankle) and Giovani Bernard (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 28.

Huddle Up: It remains to be seen how Cincinnati will use their running backs, but it would make sense for Bernard to see a bigger load again so as not to risk aggravation of Mixon's concussion. Bernard deserves more snaps, too, after his breakout performance in Week 16. Both are flex options right now.

  • Posted: 12/27/2017 2:00pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Huddle Up: Bernard went off last week with Joe Mixon limited. Mixon didn't practice today, so he could be on his way to another limited outing or he may not even play. Either way, Bernard is at worst a great PPR flex option.

  • Posted: 12/24/2017 4:10pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard rushed 23 times for 116 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions and he added seven receptions for 52 yards on seven targets.

Huddle Up: Bernard was thrust into a lead role once Joe Mixon (ankle) went down with an early injury and he really stepped up. He is a talented player who could do this on a regular basis somewhere else in the near future.

  • Posted: 12/24/2017 11:57am ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (ankle) suffered a right ankle injury in Week 16 but is considered probable to return.

Huddle Up: Bernard is receiving most of the work at running back since Joe Mixon was sidelined and should return to the game. He can be considered a flex option next week if he receives the start.

  • Posted: 12/17/2017 1:21pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard rushed for 30 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15. He also caught three passes for 13 yards during the game.

Huddle Up: Bernard received most of the touches at running back and had some success against the Vikings. He will lose the starting job when Joe Mixon returns to the lineup and can be avoided in most leagues at that point.

  • Posted: 12/15/2017 8:28pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is averaging a career-high 4.5 yards per carry and a career-high 11.3 yards per reception this season.

Huddle Up: A matchup with a tough Minnesota Vikings defense isn't ideal, but if Joe Mixon doesn't clear concussion protocol, Bernard will be worthy of a starting spot in Week 15.

  • Posted: 12/15/2017 4:48pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 15, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Huddle Up: Bernard will start this week if Joe Mixon is ruled out but should have a decent role if Mixon is cleared to play. He can be a flex option if he starts but probably should be avoided if he is the No. 2 running back.

  • Posted: 12/14/2017 3:02pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 14.

Huddle Up: Bernard should have a good chance to play this week and could start again if Joe Mixon is not ready to play. He will be facing a tough Minnesota Vikings defense in Week 15 but can still be a flex option in some leagues if he starts.

  • Posted: 12/13/2017 12:47pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Huddle Up: It looks like there will be a heavy dose of Bernard again this week as Mixon is still in the concussion protocol. Both players' statuses will need to be monitored, but for now deploy Bernard as an RB2.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 3:32pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard rushed 11 times for 62 yards in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears and he added six receptions for 68 yards on eight targets.

Huddle Up: Bernard showed he can still get it done, taking advantage of the absence of rookie Joe Mixon to shine and do his thing even in a loss. If Mixon is forced to miss time, Bernard is an attractive flex fantasy option, particularly in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 12/4/2017 9:03pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard recorded 13 carries for 77 yards in the team's Week 13 loss Monday, Dec. 4, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also caught two of his three targets for 19 yards.

Huddle Up: It was by far a season high in rush attempts for Bernard, who received the extra work after teammate Joe Mixon (concussion) went down in the second quarter, and the result was a season-best performance from the five-year veteran. With the Bengals on a short week, it'll be tough for Mixon to suit up in Week 14, making Bernard someone to target everywhere he is available.

  • Posted: 11/26/2017 1:45pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard posted three receptions for 12 yards in Week 12 against the Cleveland Browns while adding one catch for 15 yards.

Huddle Up: Bernard is clearly in the back seat with Joe Mixon being relied upon as the bellcow in the Queen City. Bernard's barely hanging on as a RB4 or flex option in deeper PPR at this point unless something happens to Mixon.

  • Posted: 11/5/2017 2:36pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard rushed for minus one yard on one carry against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. He also caught one pass for minus five yards.

Huddle Up: Most of the Bengals offense struggled in Week 9, so Bernard has a chance to bounce back next week. He is involved mostly in the passing game but probably can be avoided in most point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 10/29/2017 6:08pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill rushed four times for 11 yards in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, and RB Giovani Bernard ran twice for just five yards. Neither player had a reception.

Huddle Up: Hill and Bernard have been pushed aside by rookie Joe Mixon, who totaled 14 touches with 109 yards, including a 67-yard reception. If you have been holding out hope that Hill or Bernard would eat into Mixon's workload, it isn't happening. Hill and Bernard cannot be trusted right now outside of the deepest of fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 10/29/2017 12:08pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (nose) suffered a nose injury in Week 8 but is considered probable to return.

Huddle Up: It appears that Benard should be fine and will not miss a lot of playing time. He will continue to part of a committee at running back and could be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 10/8/2017 6:23pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill rushed four times for 16 yards while RB Giovani Bernard rushed twice for two yards with two catches for 30 yards in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills.

Huddle Up: Hill and Bernard are well behind Joe Mixon for touches in the Cincinnati backfield, as the rookie had 15 rushes for 51 yards and a touchdown. As such, they're only worth using in the deepest of fantasy leagues right now. Cincinnati is off in Week 6 before traveling to Pittsburgh in Week 7.

  • Posted: 10/1/2017 1:26pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard caught three passes for 67 yards and one touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4. He also rushed for 12 yards on three carries during the game.

Huddle Up: Bernard is being used mostly in the passing game and has become a reliable target for Andy Dalton. He can be a solid flex option in point-per-reception leagues most weeks because of his role in the passing game.

  • Posted: 9/29/2017 5:39pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Huddle Up: Bernard likely will receive limited snaps with Joe Mixon taking over as the team's main running back. He should still be involved in the passing game and could be a flex option in some point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 9/28/2017 1:16pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (thigh) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Huddle Up: Bernard should have a decent chance to play in Week 4, but owners will need to check the inactive list. Bernard probably will be losing touches to Joe Mixon moving forward but will still have a role in the passing game. He can be a flex option for owners in point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 9/27/2017 1:14pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (thigh) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Huddle Up: Even if Bernard is able to play in Week 4 he isn't a terribly attractive play due to the emergence of Joe Mixon. The Bengals have a three-headed monster in the backfield and Bernard's touches were limited to just five total in Week 3. He saw eight touches in Week 1, and seven total touches in Week 2. He is only worth using on a regular basis in deeper PPR formats as long as Mixon and Hill are also healthy.

  • Posted: 9/25/2017 3:30pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon received 34 offensive snaps in the team's Week 3 game. RB Jeremy Hill received 14 snaps, while RB Giovani Bernard received 13 snaps.

Huddle Up: It appears Mixon will be the No. 1 running back for the Bengals moving forward, which makes him a valuable option for fantasy owners. He can be a No. 2 running back or a flex option most weeks. Hill can be considered a flex option against certain opponents in standard leagues, while Bernard can be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 9/14/2017 9:42pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard managed just 10 yards on five carries Thursday, Sept. 14, against the Houston Texans. Bernard was targeted four times in the passing game, which led to two catches for 16 yards.

Huddle Up: On some level it makes sense to ease Bernard, who tore his ACL last November, back into action, but it's unclear that's what's happening as all three of Cincinnati's RBs are getting just a handful of touches each game. Bernard offers a unique skill set and should eventually hold value in PPR leagues, however, so don't cut bait just yet.

  • Posted: 9/10/2017 6:19pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard rushed seven times for 40 yards in Week 1 against Baltimore and he added one catch for 39 yards.

Huddle Up: Bernard, Jeremy Hill and Joe Mixon nearly split the carries evenly, but Bernard had the most production with 79 total yards. As such, Bernard looks like the more attractive of the trio from a fantasy perspective heading into Week 2 against the Texans on Thursday night.

  • Posted: 9/8/2017 8:56pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard should maintain his role on passing downs to start the year, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Huddle Up: Bernard will likely find carries tough to come by with Joe Mixon and Jeremy Hill also in the mix, but his skills as a receiver make him a RB4 candidate in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 9/8/2017 9:17am ET

Cincinnati Bengals RBs Jeremy Hill, Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard are expected to begin the season in a committee, according to running backs coach Kyle Caskey. 'You plan initially for it and try to put guys in the right places for what their talents can do and once the game gets going there is a flow to it. If a guy does have a little juice to him at that time then you stick with him,' Caskey said.

Huddle Up: The Bengals have a history of taking it easy on their rookie running backs, but it seems a bit ridiculous in this case, as Hill hasn't been very effective or efficient since his rookie season in 2014. Mixon is the superior talent, so owners need to remain patient. About the only near-certainties in Cincinnati's backfield are that Bernard is expected to see most of the third-down work and Hill is likely to get the bulk of the work at the goal line. It's up to Mixon to make it obvious he needs to be playing the rest of the time.

  • Posted: 8/27/2017 6:17pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) made his preseason debut Sunday, Aug. 27, rushing four times for 25 yards in a 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Huddle Up: With Joe Mixon and Jeremy Hill part of the backfield, Bernard will likely be used mainly on passing downs. He is someone to target in PPR formats as a RB4.

  • Posted: 8/11/2017 3:39pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) and WR John Ross (shoulder) will not play in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, Aug. 11.

Huddle Up: Both players are coming back from surgeries and likely will play later in the preseason. Bernard will be part of a committee at running back and may be used as more of a receiver out of the backfield. He could be considered a No. 4 running back in point-per-reception leagues. Ross should be used as a deep threat in the passing game this season and could be a No. 5 receiver in some leagues.

  • Posted: 7/28/2017 5:00pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) looked very impressive during practice Friday, July 28, in the opinion of The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. Bernard is eight months recovered from suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Huddle Up: It appears Bernard is close to full strength but probably will receives some days off during camp. He will be part of a committee with Jeremy Hill and Joe Mixon but should be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Owners should keep an eye on during the preseason to see what his role will be in the offense. He probably will be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues and could be a No. 4 running back in some leagues.

  • Posted: 7/24/2017 6:53am ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) is likely to be cleared for the beginning of training camp. Bernard is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Huddle Up: Joe Mixon has been the talk of camp, and Bernard could be used sparingly behind Mixon and Jeremy Hill. There is still some PPR luster, but the upside isn't what it once was. Look at him as an RB4 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 5/28/2017 5:35pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon could serve as the third-down back for the first few games as RB Giovani Bernard (knee) works his way back from knee surgery, according to beat writer Geoff Hobson, and Hobson believes Mixon will be a big part of the running back rotation even when Bernard is healthy.

Huddle Up: The Bengals drafted Mixon to add some explosiveness to the running game, so he is going to be worked into the offense one way or another. He is a high-upside RB4 in redraft leagues and a first-round pick in rookie drafts.

  • Posted: 5/22/2017 12:50pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard (knee) will be a limited participant when organized team activities begin Tuesday, May 23. He continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last season.

Huddle Up: Bernard should be healthy enough to play by the time the regular season rolls around, but the Bengals may take it easy with him for starters. The presence of rookie Joe Mixon and Jeremy Hill make it easier for Bernard to recover. Considering the serious injury and the competition at the position, Bernard is best drafted as an RB4 in PPR formats.
