Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (foot) is not expected to play in the third preseason game because of a foot injury.

Huddle Up: McDonald played well in the playoffs last season but has missed most of training camp because of an injury. Owners in most leagues should consider McDonald as a No. 2 fantasy tight end or a waiver wire option during the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald is listed as the starting tight end on the team's first depth chart.

Huddle Up: McDonald dealt with injuries last season but had a big performance in the team's playoff game. He should have a solid role in the passing game if he can stay healthy and can be a No. 2 fantasy tight end in most leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald caught 10 passes for 112 yards in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, Jan. 14.

Huddle Up: McDonald was more involved in the passing game over the last month and has a chance to win the starting tight end job next season. He can be considered a No. 2 fantasy tight end if he is a starter in 2018.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald caught four passes for 52 yards against the Houston Texans in Week 16.

Huddle Up: McDonald was the main tight end in the passing game against the Texans but has not been a big factor in the passing game this season. Owners probably should look for better options at tight end because it is not known if McDonald or Jesse James will be targeted more in Week 17.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury in the second half of the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens and he was unable to return. He posted four grabs for 52 yards before departing.

Huddle Up: McDonald has been really coming on to grab a bigger part in the offense so an injury would be devastating as far as he is concerned. Jesse James would be the biggest beneficiary from a fantasy perspective.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (ankle) did not practice again Friday, Nov. 24, and he has been ruled out for the team's Week 12 game Sunday, Nov. 26, versus the Green Bay Packers.

Huddle Up: This will be the second game in a row that McDonald is on the sidelines. As a result, Jesse James becomes an acceptable TE1 streaming option this week. With McDonald out last week, the former Penn State product hauled in his first touchdown since Week 1, while also tallying his most receptions since the opening week as well. There could be some nice value here.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 15, and he is listed as questionable for Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Huddle Up: McDonald is the top tight end option in Pittsburgh and he could be worth a look as a low-end TE1 against a Titans pass defense ranking 19th in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald posted two receptions for 37 yards on three targets in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Huddle Up: McDonald appears to be getting a lot more comfortable in the system after coming over from San Francisco right before the regular season opener, and Ben Roethlisberger is trusting him more and more. The tight end is usually a big part of Pittsburgh's offensive game plan, so McDonald could be a fantasy standout if he continues to progress.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald was acquired because fellow TEs Jesse James and Xavier Grimble were 'not consistently varsity enough,' in the words of head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin did make it clear that McDonald will not be crowned the started right away and will need to compete for that job.

Huddle Up: Ben Roethlisberger likes his tight ends, but the Steelers now have a crowded group at tight end. McDonald is more promising, but this could turn into a committee of sorts.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick Tuesday, Aug. 29, according to sources.

Huddle Up: This move clears the way for rookie George Kittle to start. McDonald was rumored to be on the block about as soon as the team laid eyes on Kittle during offseason workout, but that talk seem to disappear during the preseason. Either way, Kittle is now clearly on the dynasty radar and could enjoy some back-end TE2 value down the road.
