Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (finger) was inactive for the preseason game Friday, Aug. 15, against the Oakland Raiders. WR Kris Durham made the start in his absence.

Huddle Up: The Lions have been limiting Megatron while he deals with knee and finger issues. There's nothing for fantasy owners to worry about though. Johnson should be on the field next week with Detroit's starters when the Lions take on Jacksonville.

  • Posted: 8/13/2014 6:43pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (finger) has a fabricated splint to wear on his previously injured finger for protective purposes only. Johnson had surgery on the finger after last season, but it's unclear how often he plans to wear the splint. Johnson hasn't shown any ill efffects from his finger or knee in training camp, where he has consistently beaten the team's cornerbacks in practice.

Huddle Up: The overwhelming majority of owners certainly aren't concerned about any health issues with Megatron as he currently owns the top WR ADP -- and third highest of any player -- at 4.71.

  • Posted: 7/29/2014 11:47pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is taking part in fewer reps in training camp this year than in years past and said he is trying to be smarter about his approach to practice with the goal of staying healthy the entire season. 'I'm older now,' Johnson said. 'I'm not diving for the balls anymore (in practice). Coach Caldwell has a big emphasis about us staying off the ground. I'm not playing every play in practice but they're working me in. I'm out here trying to get my extra running in after (practice) so I can keep my wind up.'

Huddle Up: Megatron still will only be 29 in Sept., but is coming off a 2013 season in which he matched his career low for games played with 14 and had three-year lows in catches (84) and receiving yards (1,492).

  • Posted: 6/11/2014 12:46am ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is happy to be healthy and back on the practice field after injuries to his knee and finger prevented him from doing so late last season. 'It feels great to be out here playing with the guys,' Johnson said Tuesday, June 10. 'I missed a lot of practice time last year before games. You definitely feel like you need that practice time before a game, just to get on one accord with your quarterback.'

Huddle Up: A healthy Megatron will leave opposing secondary coaches feeling ill, especially now with the complementary weapons (WR Golden Tate, TE Eric Ebron) the Lions have added this offseason.

  • Posted: 5/15/2014 11:17pm ET

Despite recent rumors of the Detroit Lions potentially trading WR Calvin Johnson, his contract makes that unrealistic. Trading Johnson would create $29 million is dead salary-cap space.

Huddle Up: Unlike the other Pro Bowl wideout named Johnson -- the Texans' Andre -- who could possibly land on the trading block, this seems far too far-fetched.

  • Posted: 4/28/2014 10:02pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) attended but did not take part in the Lions' three-day minicamp last week. He is recovering from surgery on his right knee and a finger on his left hand.

Huddle Up: No reason to tax Megatron at this juncture; just get him to the field in one piece on Sundays and it's all good.

  • Posted: 1/15/2014 10:32pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee, finger) underwent minor knee surgery last week and also had surgery on his finger this week. He's recovering nicely from both procedures.

Huddle Up: Megatron had the oil changed and his Fetzer valve treated with ball bearings, gauze pads and antifreeze. He should be more than ready to resume dominating opposing secondaries by the time next fall rolls around.

  • Posted: 12/30/2013 12:45am ET

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Sunday, Dec. 29, that WR Calvin Johnson (knee) will need offseason knee surgery, but the procedure is not considered 'major.'

Huddle Up: It's good to see that this was minor. Hopefully this cures Johnson of some of his nagging woes and he will come back stronger than ever next season.

  • Posted: 12/26/2013 10:28pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 26.

Huddle Up: Johnson was a practice no-show for the second straight day and has to be regarded as a major Week 17 question mark amid reports that surfaced this week that Johnson has been playing with a partially-torn PCL in his right knee.

  • Posted: 12/25/2013 12:41am ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) declined comment on a report that he is playing with a partially-torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. "Y'all will have to ask me those questions on Thursday," Johnson said Tuesday, Dec. 23. "I don't want to talk about that stuff." Head coach Jim Schwartz has said offseason surgery is not required, and that Johnson could play in the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Huddle Up: It was revealed that Johnson played most of last season with broken fingers, so it's definitely possible -- and even probable -- that he's more hurt than he's letting on this season. You're still starting him if he's active in Week 17, but he's mired in an end-of-season funk with a combined 12 catches for 193 yards and no scores over his last 3 games.

  • Posted: 12/23/2013 3:46pm ET

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team will see how WR Calvin Johnson (knee) is during the week before deciding if he will play Week 17.

Huddle Up: There is little incentive to put Johnson out there with the Lions having been eliminated last week. Keep an eye on his situation, but you might want to find an alternative.

  • Posted: 12/18/2013 12:03am ET

With the exception of a 37-yard reception in the second half and an 18-yard catch that led to a go-ahead touchdown for the Detroit Lions in the final minutes, WR Calvin Johnson didn't have much of an impact during the Lions' 18-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, Dec. 16. He finished with six catches for 98 yards while being targeted a game-high 13 times.

Huddle Up: Johnson also had several notable drops in the game and now has put together 2 poor back-to-back games with a 3-catch, 52-yard effort in a snowy Week 14 loss in Philly. Still he remains fantasy's top- ranked WR, and his fantasy owners who have weathered those 2 sub-par showings in the postseason can only hope the law of averages produces a Megatron explosion Sunday vs. the struggling Giants.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Huddle Up: Missing practices but still playing -- and playing to an All-Pro level -- in games has become SOP for Megatron all season, but with the fantasy matchups now taking on extra importance, be sure to check and double-check the WR's status if you have him on your squad.

  • Posted: 11/22/2013 2:49pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Darrelle Revis said he plans on being physical with Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson in their Week 12 matchup. Revis has been playing more press coverage in recent weeks as his knee returns close to 100 percent health. The two faced each other in 2010 and Johnson was held to just one catch for 13 yards. 'My thought was always just to be physical with them,' said Revis. 'They're big guys. I feel no receiver wants to get jammed or pressed at the line, so just be physical with those guys and match what they bring to the table.'

Huddle Up: Sure, Revis presents a tough matchup and all that, but don't get too cute by even thinking of benching Megatron -- especially at this critical juncture in the season.

  • Posted: 11/21/2013 1:36pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) practiced Thursday, Nov. 21.

Huddle Up: Megatron was back after his usual Wednesday absence. He had a strong Week 11 with 6 grabs for 179 yards and 2 scores but should've been even better with Johnson not catching a pass the entire second half.

  • Posted: 11/15/2013 5:04pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) is fully expected to play in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after returning to practice Friday, Nov. 15.

Huddle Up: Johnson caused some minor alarm by missing both the team's Wednesday and Thursday workouts, but consider him ready to put up more points this weekend.

  • Posted: 11/5/2013 8:30pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) missed the team's practice Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Huddle Up: Should be no worries here as Megatron was given an extra day of rest with the Lions coming out of their bye week.

  • Posted: 10/24/2013 12:56pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) was participating in the portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Oct. 24.

Huddle Up: Johnson's missed game and mini-slump are in the rear-view mirror and receding quickly after his 9-155-2 TD performance in Week 7. He remains among the fantasy elite.

  • Posted: 10/17/2013 1:39pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) practiced Thursday, Oct. 17.

Huddle Up: Good to see Johnson out there for the 2nd straight day as it's more than he's been able to do the past few weeks. His fantasy owners now are hoping its a sign that the WR's 2-week lull in production is over.

  • Posted: 10/16/2013 2:56pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) is participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Huddle Up: Excellent news. Hopefully he will get a full complement of snaps this week. Monitor his status throughout the week.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 3:49pm ET

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said WR Calvin Johnson (knee) was dealing with some knee soreness after the team's Week 6 game and his status for Week 7 is uncertain at this point.

Huddle Up: This is good to hear after his limited action. Hopefully he continues to recover and gets back to a full complement of snaps sooner than later.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 12:48am ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) played a limited amount of snaps in the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns, including just 14 plays in the first half with two dropped passes. However, he ended the day with eight targets, three receptions and 25 yards. 'We knew if we were only going to have him for a certain amount of snaps, we'd want those to be in the second half,' head coach Jim Schwartz said.

Huddle Up: It's good that he doesn't seem to have aggravated his injury. Hopefully we'll get a full complement of snaps out of Johnson the next time out.

  • Posted: 10/11/2013 3:23pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 11, and he practiced without wearing a knee brace. However, he struggled with he had to cut in his routes and will be a game-time decision in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.

Huddle Up: Johnson owners will need to have a replacement ready to go. Even if Megatron does play he's going to be limited and shadowed by Joe Haden. There's a good chance Johnson misses his second straight game on Sunday.

  • Posted: 10/10/2013 8:52pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) took part in position drills in the portion of the practice open to the media Thursday, Oct. 10. Johnson, however, did not run routes or participate in skeleton drills.

Huddle Up: Afterward, Johnson told ESPN.com that he knee feels "good," but wouldn't elaborate about his Week 6 stats. "I'm feeling better," Johnson said. "I'll just leave it at that." Translation: That means another anxious weekend looks to be ahead of Johnson's fantasy owners after the wideout sat out Week 5.

  • Posted: 10/10/2013 11:53am ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson still has swelling in his knee and is unlikely to practice this week. He'll be a game-time decision in Week 6.

Huddle Up: The Lions' offense looked lost without Megatron last week, not to mention how much fantasy owners missed having him in their lineups. Looks like they'll have to sweat it out again this week.

  • Posted: 10/9/2013 3:59pm ET

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team will not make a decision on WR Calvin Johnson's (knee) status until later in the week. Schwartz indicated Johnson could be a game-time decision.

Huddle Up: Hopefully Johnson can go, but at least you won't be taken by surprise this week. Keep another option ready to insert into your lineups.

  • Posted: 10/9/2013 1:32pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Huddle Up: Normally we wouldn't bat an eye at reports about Johnson not practicing, but he sat last week, surprising his fantasy owners in the worst way possible. Keep an eye on him this week.

  • Posted: 10/7/2013 4:32pm ET

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team won't use WR Calvin Johnson (knee) as a decoy if he plays in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns. 'If he's not healthy enough to play, we're certainly not going to put a player out there to decoy because he's still got to run routes,' Schwartz said. 'What he's going to do, line up and just put his hand up in the air?' Johnson was very close to suiting up in Week 5, but Schwartz was non-committal as to whether he'll play this weekend.

Huddle Up: This is good to hear from a fantasy perspective. That means that he should be a full go if he does play this week. He does draw Joe Haden, but Megatron is virtually matchup-proof when fully healthy.

  • Posted: 9/25/2013 6:00pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Huddle Up: Don't worry too much about this, we've been through this plenty before. There is no reason why he can't rest mid-week to keep his legs fresh.

  • Posted: 8/29/2013 7:00pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) will not participate in the team's final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 29.

Huddle Up: Yeah, it might be a tad disconcerting to see fantasy's No. 1 WR sit out 3 of the 4 preseason contests, but he's answered the call with remarkable regularity during the season that counts, missing only 4 regular-season games in 6 NFL seasons.

  • Posted: 8/26/2013 10:53pm ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 26 due to knee soreness.

Huddle Up: The Lions insist it's just precautionary, but Megatron's fantasy owners are starting to get a little anxious with wideout also missing the past 2 preseason games. Don't worry, though, unless Johnson somehow gets a doubtful designation on the Week 1 injury report.

  • Posted: 8/23/2013 12:25am ET

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) did not play in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22.

Huddle Up: It's the second straight preseason game missed for Megatron, but it's all just precautionary and the wideout shouldn't be budging from the atop the WR list on your draft board.
