  • Posted: 11/20/2016 10:18pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald posted three receptions for a team-high 46 yards and a touchdown in the Week 11 game against the New England Patriots. He was targeted six times.

Huddle Up: McDonald has had much more success with Colin Kaepernick under center than Blaine Gabbert, posting 10 receptions for 180 yards with two touchdowns over the past three games. He has been targeted six times in each outing. He has re-emerged as a decent streaming option in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

  • Posted: 10/21/2016 5:41pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 21, and is not on the injury report for Week 7.

Huddle Up: McDonald posted only 25 yards in his last game and was targeted only two times during the game. It is not known how he will be used with Colin Kaepernick as the starter, so owners may want to look for other options to use.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald caught two passes for 25 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6.

Huddle Up: It is not known how McDonald will be used with Colin Kaepernick as the starter but will continue to be the starting tight end. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

  • Posted: 10/13/2016 5:20pm ET

Huddle Up: McDonald has barely been involved in the offense over the last few games, and he shouldn't be starting in any format.

  • Posted: 10/5/2016 3:03pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if McDonald will be able to play. He has become an important part of the team's passing game and would receive a decent amount of targets if he plays. McDonald could be a low-end No. 1 tight end if he plays.

  • Posted: 10/4/2016 2:24pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) was limited during practice Tuesday, Oct. 4. The 49ers only had a walk-through practice Tuesday, so this is an estimation.

Huddle Up: McDonald missed Week 4 and checks out as a risky fantasy option until he proves his health on the field. Additionally, he's a boom-or-bust contributor who has converted two of his seven targets for touchdowns. Garrett Celek played 74 percent of offensive snaps in Week 4 and projects to continue having a large role in the offense if McDonald is out this season. Celek is nothing more than a low-end TE2, though.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) was limited during practice Monday, Oct. 3. The 49ers did not practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

  • Posted: 9/30/2016 4:55pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) was limited during the team's walkthrough Friday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Huddle Up: McDonald appears to have a good chance to play in Week 4, but owners will need to check the inactive list. McDonald has posted decent stats this season and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues.

  • Posted: 9/29/2016 12:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) is participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

  • Posted: 9/28/2016 5:07pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to check on McDonald's status later in the week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 4. Garrett Celek may start if McDonald is ruled out, but he is not a strong fantasy option.

  • Posted: 9/28/2016 11:31am ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald's (hip) status for Week 4 is uncertain because of a hip injury he suffered in Week 3. Head coach Chip Kelly said McDonald is not dealing with a long-term injury, but his status will not be known until later in the week.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if McDonald will have to miss time because of the injury. McDonald has been off to a solid start this season, but owners should have other options ready in case he is ruled out.

  • Posted: 9/25/2016 3:35pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (hip) suffered a hip injury in the Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks and was unable to return, the team said Sunday, Sept. 25.

Huddle Up: McDonald should be reserved in all fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

  • Posted: 9/12/2016 10:36pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald posted a pair of receptions with 14 yards and a touchdown in the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Huddle Up: McDonald was nearly invisible until a second half scoring play. The tight ends weren't very involved in the San Francisco offense in Week 1. If McDonald doesn't do a little better next week you should be able to find better options off the waiver wire.

  • Posted: 8/21/2016 9:01pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald has caught five passes for 92 yards from QB Blaine Gabbert through two preseason games.

Huddle Up: He continues to show chemistry with Gabbert, and McDonald could end up being San Francisco's best weapon in the passing game this year. He is a sneaky TE1 producer who comes at a bottom-barrel price.

  • Posted: 8/15/2016 9:08am ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald finished with two receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown in the team's preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Huddle Up: Garrett Celek started, but it was McDonald who resumed the connection he started to show with Blaine Gabbert late last season. Head coach Chip Kelly's offense is often able to create huge gaps down the middle of the field with his east-west run action, and McDonald has enough athleticism to take advantage of it in the way Zach Ertz did. The 26-year-old Rice product is a sleeper candidate for TE1 value on an offense lacking proven playmakers.

  • Posted: 6/8/2016 11:09am ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald is a player garnering plenty of attention during minicamp, as QB Blaine Gabbert and tight ends coach Jeff Nixon each heaped praise on the tight end. 'He's such a great athlete. He's smart. He does a great job in the run and pass game. He's a guy that we have to utilize. He's a mismatch nightmare on linebackers,' Gabbert said. Nixon said the team is looking for McDonald to pick up where he left off last season and be a big-play tight end in the pass game.

Huddle Up: Chip Kelly offenses love to exploit size matchups and often times that means using the tight end. McDonald flashed late last season with Gabbert at quarterback, and the combination of Kelly's scheme and Gabbert under center bodes extremely well for McDonald's fantasy upside this year.

  • Posted: 12/17/2015 10:38pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Huddle Up: McDonald has been cleared to return after a week's absence, and will look to re-gain the steam he had prior to his Week 13 injury.

  • Posted: 12/11/2015 9:45pm ET

San Francisco 49ers TE Vance McDonald (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and has been ruled out for the Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Huddle Up: Blake Bell will start at tight end for the 49ers this week. Even with Blaine Gabbert throwing more to the tight ends, Bell isn't a recommended fantasy play this week.
