CBSSports.com reports Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason will not need surgery, but he will miss the rest of the preseason with a sprained knee, according to a source close to Beason. Beason is hoping to be ready for the regular-season opener.
The Huddle Take: Beason is an elite IDP contributor, but uncertainty about his knee has to knock him down a peg—and make those who already spent a high pick on him extremely nervous.

The Associated Press reports the Carolina Panthers are not discussing LB Jon Beason's (knee) injury. There was speculation that Beason had injured his medial collateral ligament. He was wearing a brace and was on crutches Saturday, Aug. 22. A team spokesman declined to reveal the results of Beason's MRI exam Sunday, Aug. 23.
The Huddle Take: Beason is the heart and soul of the Panthers defense and with the team not releasing information this is certainly not sounding very good. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should definitely keep an eye on this situation the next few days to make sure that Beason does not miss any significant time due to this injury.
Backup Dan Connor will likely be the next in line for playing time if Beason is out for any length of time.

CarolinaGrowl.com reports Panthers LB Jon Beason will not participate in all drills during the team's minicamp this weekend because he is still recovering from offseason surgery.
The Huddle Take: It's minicamp, so it's not overly disconcerting that Beason is being held out of drills. If he's not completely healthy by training camp, then we'll start to worry.

CarolinaGrowl.com reports Panthers LB Jon Beason underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder and will be in a sling for another four weeks or so. Beason originally injured the shoulder against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, but he was able to play through the pain for the rest of the season. "I put my arm down to push myself up and it kind of collapsed," Beason said. "I popped it back into place and got back in the huddle. I think we were winning, 24-23, and two plays later I made an interception that led to a field goal and we won the game. It's funny how certain players can play through pain and some can't. I have values for the parts of my body. In terms of my wings - shoulder, elbows, hands - it's not negotiable. Unless it's sticking through the skin or bleeding bad, I'm staying in the game." Beason may not participate in OTAs in June, but he will "absolutely" be ready for training camp.
The Huddle Take: That attitude has helped Beason become one of the top IDP linebackers in the game. Sounds like we needn't worry about his availability for the 2009 season... unless, you know, it's sticking through the skin or bleeding bad.
