Free-agent RB Montee Ball (Broncos) has drawn interest from the Cleveland Browns and other teams, according to a source.

Huddle Up: The Browns are always looking to upgrade their backfield. Ball wouldn't be an immediate threat to Isaiah Crowell but he would provide depth with Terrance West now in Tennessee.

  • Posted: 9/7/2015 8:35pm ET

Free-agent RB Montee Ball (Broncos) reportedly has drawn interest from the Atlanta Falcons.

Huddle Up: With Devonta Freeman and his hammy still hurting, and rookies Tevin Coleman anbd Terron Ward currently topping the depth chart, the Falcons certainly can use some backfield bodies, but signing Ball would likely just amount to a stop-gap depth measure.

  • Posted: 9/6/2015 5:01pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball was waived Sunday, Sept. 6.

Huddle Up: It's been a sudden and shocking decline for the 2013 second-round pick who was a second-round pick in most fantasy drafts a year ago. Still, an unproductive and injury-marred 2014 season was followed by a poor preseason (68 yards on 32 carries) in which he was outperformed by RBs Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson.

  • Posted: 9/4/2015 3:56pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball is not a trade target for the Dallas Cowboys, but the Cowboys could have interest in him if he is released by the Broncos, according to a source.

Huddle Up: The Cowboys have been linked to just about every free-agent or soon-to-be free-agent RB, but so far Jerry Jones has held his water and appears to be sticking with the Joseph Randle-Darren McFadden-Lance Dunbar triumvirate. That could change in a hurry, though, if Dallas stumbles out of the gates and the ground game struggles to find early traction.

  • Posted: 9/4/2015 10:01am ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball rushed 16 times for 27 yards in the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3. RB Kapri Bibbs tallied 27 yards on six rushes.

Huddle Up: So much for Montee's audition. There's a very real chance he'll be released by the Broncos; then he can join Trent Richardson in competition for backup jobs.

  • Posted: 9/1/2015 4:40pm ET

Denver Broncos RBs Montee Ball and Kapri Bibbs aren't guaranteed a roster spot at this point. They will each play this weekend for one final audition.

Huddle Up: Wow, remember a year ago at this time when Ball -- the team's second-round pick in 2013 -- was being drafted as a RB1? That's a 2014 groin injury and a deeply disappointing 2015 preseason ago, and in case you haven't been paying attention to the Denver depth chart, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson are the immediate backups behind starter C.J. Anderson.

  • Posted: 8/24/2015 5:54pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball has already lost the backup running back role to RB Ronnie Hillman. RB Juwan Thompson may also surpass Ball in the near future, according to Mike Klis of

Huddle Up: Hillman played well last season when Ball got hurt and he's having a great training camp. If C.J. Anderson goes down the Broncos may use a combination of backs but Hillman looks like he'll be first in line for the most touches.

  • Posted: 7/6/2015 3:25pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball is expected to receive seven or eight carries a game, while RB C.J. Anderson serves as the bellcow with 18 per game, in the opinion of beat writer Troy E. Renck.

Huddle Up: Broncos coach Gary Kubiak has been a "play the hot hand" guy before, but at least heading into the season the popular opinion is that Ball will play second fiddle to Anderson. There may be enough of a workload that even Ball's secondary role provides fantasy value, but you certainly can't bank on him being a fantasy factor at this juncture.

  • Posted: 6/15/2015 5:10pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball has performed well during offseason activities, and he described the situation at running back as a '1-A and 1-B' rotation between he and RB C.J. Anderson.

Huddle Up: What Montee is expecting and what Montee will get this fall may be two different things entirely, as Anderson claimed the starting gig late last season and shows no signs of giving up a significant portion of the carries.

  • Posted: 5/29/2015 1:19pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball and C.J. Anderson are splitting first-team repetitions during organized team activities.

Huddle Up: Due to injury issues, Ball was limited to five games and 172 rushing yards last season after a promising finish to his 2013 rookie campaign and became the forgotten man with Anderson's late-season emergence. Expect Anderson to again get the starting nod and majority of the Broncos' workload in 2015 but don't forget about Ball, a second-round pick, who will get his share of the carries if he can stay healthy.

  • Posted: 11/26/2014 6:49pm ET

Denver Broncos RBs Montee Ball (groin) and Ronnie Hillman (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Huddle Up: Ball and Hillman are likely out another week or two at the minimum, leaving late-season standout C.J. Anderson firmly in charge of the starting gig.

  • Posted: 11/17/2014 8:06pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) will miss the next 2 to 3weeks after aggravating his groin injury in Week 11, according to two league sources.

Huddle Up: With Ronnie Hillman also likely out for the next month, it'll be the C.J. Anderson show with some Juwan Thompson sprinkled in.

  • Posted: 11/16/2014 8:03pm ET

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) aggravated his groin injury in Week 11 against the St. Louis Rams, and he will have an MRI Monday, Nov. 17. His injury might have been the most serious to the team's skill position players Sunday.

Huddle Up: Ball played only briefly before re-injuring his groin. With Ronnie Hillman also out for the next few weeks, C.J. Anderson is now the Broncos feature back. Juwan Thompson moves up to the No. 2 role and should also be added in all leagues.

  • Posted: 11/14/2014 4:15pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and is listed as probable for Week 11.

Huddle Up: Ball will make his return this week but will split the workload with Week 10 standout C.J. Anderson as Ronnie Hillman sits out with a foot injury.

  • Posted: 11/12/2014 6:40pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Huddle Up: Good timing for the Ronnie Hillman-less Broncos as Ball is expected to return Sunday in St. Louis after sitting out the previous five games.

  • Posted: 11/10/2014 8:08pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is hopeful of putting in a full week of full practice, and he is poised to return to the lineup in Week 11 against the St. Louis Rams after missing five games. Ball wants to do more than just return, though; "to try and get my old job back." "It's who's healthy, No. 1 first and foremost. We've been evaluating that week to week ... we'll evaluate it again come Wednesday," head coach John Fox said. "Doesn't matter how I feel, it's how they feel ... Time heals, we'll see how they feel come Wednesday."

Huddle Up: The timing could be ideal for Ball and the Broncos with starter Ronnie Hillman likely set to miss the next 2-3 games with a foot sprain, but Ball will have to be able to show he's ready to return in practice this week.

  • Posted: 11/7/2014 6:45pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 7, and is questionable for Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders.

Huddle Up: Ball hasn't played since Week 5, and while he was able to get back on the practice field this week, it'll be a surprise if he's active and able to contribute Sunday in Oakland.

  • Posted: 11/5/2014 4:35pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Huddle Up: Ball has been sidelined since he was injured in Week 5, and while his return is certainly drawing near, hoping for him to play this Sunday in Oakland would seem to be a little too optimistic. Whenever Ball's return comes, though, it figures to be in a change-up role behind the productive Ronnie Hillman.

  • Posted: 10/31/2014 8:23pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not practice Friday, Oct. 31, and has been ruled out for Week 9 against the New England Patriots.

Huddle Up: As expected, Ball will miss Sunday's game against New England. Ronnie Hillman will get the bulk of the carries versus the Patriots. Hillman is cemented as a strong RB2 in Denver's offense.

  • Posted: 10/21/2014 6:20pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) was not at practice Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Huddle Up: Reports have placed Ball's likely return in Week 10 or 11, but in the meantime, Ronnie Hillman looks to be tightening his grip on the No. 1 RB role, coming off back-to-back strong performances.

  • Posted: 10/18/2014 8:38pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) will have a difficult time regaining the featured-back role this season after his injury. It's beat writer Mike Klis' opinion that Ball never fully recovered from his appendectomy, which could have been a precursor to his groin injury.

Huddle Up: Ball was ineffective as the starter and Ronnie Hillman rushed for 100 yards in his first game as the No. 1 back against the Jets. It's likely the Broncos will use both running backs when Ball returns, with Hillman remaining the starter.

  • Posted: 10/17/2014 8:11pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 17, and has been ruled out for Week 7.

Huddle Up: Ronnie Hillman will get his second straight start. Hillman is coming off a 100-yard performance and is a strong RB2 against the 49ers this week.

  • Posted: 10/11/2014 9:24pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman, RB C.J. Anderson and RB Juwan Thompson (knee) will all be leaned on while RB Montee Ball (groin) is out with a groin injury, according to head coach John Fox. Anderson said he feels that the back that has the hot hand will receive a majority of the carries.

Huddle Up: Hillman will get first crack at getting the hot hand but will have to produce in order to stay on the field. Hillman is a RB3/flex play this week but will need to prove himself to remain there going forward. Hillman is the best fantasy option this week.

  • Posted: 10/9/2014 4:37pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman will serve as the lead running back in RB Montee Ball's (groin) absence. 'Ronnie has played at different times, in different amounts, but when you're the starting back and running out there in pregame warm-ups as a starting back, it's a different hat that you wear,' said QB Peyton Manning. 'There's no question he has a burst that is pretty unique when he gets the ball in his hands. It's our job to give him space.'

Huddle Up: Hillman stepped in for the injured Ball last week and led Denver RBs with 64 yards on 15 carries, but it won't be an easy first start as the Jets are allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to opposing RBs so far this season. Hillman must also guard against the fumbling issues which have curtailed his playing time in past seasons.

  • Posted: 10/7/2014 11:28am ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) is likely to miss the next three games because the team plays those three games in a span of 12 days.

Huddle Up: Now we have a timetable for Ball's return. Expect Ronnie Hillman to be the Broncos' primary ballcarrier, with Juwon Thompson and CJ Anderson also in the mix.

  • Posted: 10/6/2014 12:31pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) could miss multiple weeks due to a groin injury, according to an NFL source. He'll undergo an MRI Monday, Oct. 6.

Huddle Up: Ronnie Hillman will take over as the Broncos lead back. He should be the top waiver priority this week in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 10/5/2014 9:55pm ET

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball (groin) suffered a groin injury in the third quarter of the Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He is questionable to return.

Huddle Up: Early reports suggest Ball will be out for "a while." Ronnie Hillman will get the first shot to replace him. Hillman should be owned in all leagues now.
