Free-agent LB Desmond Bishop (Packers) said he is motivated as a result of his release Monday, June 17. "There's something about being released that's definitely going to add another chip to my shoulders,' Bishop said. 'It's motivation. It's nothing negative about this whole situation. I think it's all part of the plan, and I have to keep playing it out. I think it's going to be good. I think all that is going to help me reach my goal."

Huddle Up: The Vikings and Chiefs reportedly are already interested in the 28-year-old Bishop, who led the Pack in tackles and finished second in sacks in 2011, before suffering a season-ending hamstring tear a year ago in August.

The Green Bay Packers believe LBs Clay Matthews and Desmond Bishop will take over the leadership role that DB Charles Woodson had before he was released.

Huddle Up: Health,of course, is the key here as Matthews missed 4 games and Bishop missed the entire season a year ago. After all, it's hard to be an on-field leader when you're not on the field.

The Green Bay Packers placed RB Duane Bennett, LB Desmond Bishop, TE DeMarco Cosby, G Ray Dominguez, DE Johnny Jones and WR Shaky Smithson on Injured Reserve Monday, Aug. 27.

Huddle Up: As feared, Bishop won't be available anytime in 2012 after tearing a hamstring in the Pack's preseason opener. Bishop led the team in tackles last season and finished second on the club with 5 sacks.

Green Bay Packers LB Desmond Bishop (hamstring) underwent surgery on his hamstring Friday, Aug. 17. No decision has been made on if he will be placed on injured reserve.

Huddle Up: Bishop, a 2-year starter inside for Green Bay, tore a hamstring in the Packers' Aug. 9 preseason opener, and it's very likely he'll miss the entire season. If so, that's big blow for a D which finished third overall with 147 fantasy points a year ago. Bishop led the team in tackles and finished second with five sacks. He also forced a pair of fumbles.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said LB Desmond Bishop (hamstring, knee) will need surgery on the hamstring injury he suffered in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 9, and his 2012 season is in jeopardy. McCarthy said Bishop also suffered a knee sprain during the game.

Huddle Up: Bishop's injury Thursday in the preseason opener was an ominous start for a defense, which was the worst in the league a season ago in terms of yards allowed per game (411.6). Bishop, a sixth-year player from Cal, was Green Bay's leading tackler (121 total) and second-leading sacker (5) last year, and his presence will be sorely missed.
