Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders RB Gary Russell will likely be the team's new starting fullback after a strong performance in Week 6. Russell caught five passes for 55 yards but also provided strong blocking.
The Huddle Take: Super-duper, another back in the mix in Oakland. Not that Michael Bush or Darren McFadden or Justin Fargas had much in the way of fantasy value anyway, but Russell's presence lops off another percentage or two from their share of the workload--and, subsequently, their fantasy value.

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports free-agent RB Gary Russell is scheduled to visit the St. Louis Rams Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to agent Andy Simms.
The Huddle Take: At present Samkon Gado looks to be the primary backup to Steven Jackson, who has been known to suffer an injury from time to time. If the Rams add Russell, he would immediately compete with Gado for that role.

InsideBayArea.com reports the Oakland Raiders have signed free-agent RB Gary Russell. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Huddle Take: Last we saw Russell he was making a pit stop in Cincinnati after scoring a touchdown in the Super Bowl for the Steelers. He'll provide backfield depth behind Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas, and Michael Bush.

The Cincinnati Bengals have announced they have claimed RB Gary Russell off waivers.
The Huddle Take: Russell goes from scoring a touchdown in the Super Bowl to caddying for Cedric Benson in Cincy. Ouch.
