Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles did not receive a full commitment to remain the starter from Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin on Friday, Feb. 24.

Huddle Up: It should be noted Coughlin did not indicate the Jaguars would be moving on from Bortles either. Chad Henne and Brandon Allen are the only other quarterbacks on the roster, so any realistic challenger is going to have to come via free agency or the draft. Bortles is the odds-on favorite to remain the starter in Jacksonville, but he is firmly in QB2 territory in fantasy.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles still has a vote of confidence from general manager David Caldwell despite two rough seasons to start his young career. 'I think we can win a lot of games with Blake; I think we can win a Super Bowl with Blake,' Caldwell said. 'I think he needs to improve and I think we need to improve around him, too, in order for that to happen. I think the future is bright for him.'

Huddle Up: Whether or not Caldwell said these things with a straight face is unbeknownst to many, but good for him if he did. Bortles is mechanically flawed and has thrown 34 interceptions in his first two years. Despite that, he has finished comfortably in QB1 territory, largely thanks to garbage time in Jaguars' losses. View him as a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 next season.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was endorsed as the team's quarterback Thursday, Jan. 12, by executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin.

Huddle Up: Bortles' numbers weren't too far off from 2015 this season except he threw 12 fewer touchdowns. Entering his fourth season, he'll be in a make-or-break situation as a low-end QB1 or a high-end QB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 1/7/2017 10:06am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he has no idea if the team will pick up the fifth-year option in his contract.

Huddle Up: Bortles had a disappoint 2016 season but did play better in the last two games of the season, so the Jaguars may pick up the option. Bortles should be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars next season and should be seen as a No. 2 quarterback in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 1/5/2017 6:59am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will spend this offseason working on his mechanics. He said he'll spend about 10 weeks working on his footwork, which he said was his biggest mechanical flaw. His windup and release will improve along with it, Bortles said. Bortles said part of his issue was that he was trying to be a stand-still passer, which has nothing to do with leaving the pocket, and that's just not something with which he's comfortable.

Huddle Up: Bortles was expected to take a leap forward in his third year, but it ended up being a bunny hop backwards. He's just going to be 25 next season, and there is still room to grow to reach his ceiling. He'll be a low-end QB1 possibility or a great QB2 flyer next season.

  • Posted: 1/4/2017 3:21pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles managed to pass for 3,905 yards and 23 touchdowns in an otherwise unimpressive season. He also ran for 359 yards and three touchdowns.

Huddle Up: The rushing numbers really aided Bortles' fantasy outlook. In one of the least impressive seasons in recent memory, Bortles thrived in garbage time throughout the season and played his way into QB1 territory. This is just another reminder that you don't have to be a good real-life quarterback to be a good fantasy quarterback.

  • Posted: 1/2/2017 12:03pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulders, wrist) toiled through two shoulder separations and tendinitis in his wrist last season.

Huddle Up: The injuries are convenient excuses for Bortles, but he was flat out bad in 2016, injuries or no injuries. His play is extremely erratic and his throwing technique is unorthodox. Even with a solid 2015 season, the 2016 season was enough to put him in backup fantasy quarterback territory.

  • Posted: 1/1/2017 5:35pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 25 of his 39 pass attempts for 301 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 17 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He also rushed three times for 21 yards and lost a pair of fumbles.

Huddle Up: Bortles took a big step backwards in 2016. While his 3,905 passing yards wasn't horrible, it was more than 500 off from his breakout season of 2015. He also threw 12 fewer touchdowns (23) than he did lSAt season, while losing a career high three fumbles and throwing 16 interceptions. He will be slotted more as a QB2 heading into 2017 in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 2:14pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 26 of his 38 pass attempts for 325 yards, one touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans. He also rushed three times for seven yards and hauled in a 20-yard touchdown reception on a trick play and throw from WR Marqise Lee.

Huddle Up: Bortles had been struggling lately, so this game was nice for fantasy owners who actually stuck with him. He has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury, too, but that didn't appear to be an issue in this one.

  • Posted: 12/23/2016 7:37am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will not be tied to the next head coach as general manager David Caldwell said there's no mandate for the new coach about what to do at quarterback. Caldwell said he still believes in Bortles.

Huddle Up: Bortles has taken a step back this year, but in his defense, the team has been plagued with injuries at the skill positions. Bortles is a matchup play with a decent one against the Tennessee Titans this week.

  • Posted: 12/22/2016 1:27pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

Huddle Up: Bortles has been one of the biggest failures in football this year, both in real life and in the fantasy realm. He's given fantasy owners week after week of disappointment, but he has a chance to redeem himself this week versus a vulnerable Tennessee Titans secondary. Even so, Bortles is in backup fantasy quarterback territory.

  • Posted: 12/18/2016 3:54pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed just 12 of his 28 pass attempts for 92 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 15 game against the Houston Texans. He was able to run for a score, but finished with two rushes for minus-5 yards.

Huddle Up: Bortles took a giant step backwards after a promising season in 2015. He entered the season as a low-end QB1, but is limping to the finish line as a QB2 in most fantasy formats.

  • Posted: 12/11/2016 9:53pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 257 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 14 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He also ran three times for 13 yards.

Huddle Up: Bortles has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury lately, and he has faced some very tough defenses lately, too. He has resembled more of a QB2 recently in fantasy.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 1:39pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was picked off two times, once by Denver Broncos DB Bradley Roby for a pick-six touchdown, in a 20-10 loss. This is the third time in four games Bortles has thrown a pick-six.

Huddle Up: Bortles saw 23 of his 42 passes fall incomplete and finished with 181 yards. If you are using Bortles as a QB1 in your fantasy leagues, chances are you are out of playoff contention. He's best used as a QB2 or lower. This week's game was against a top defense.

  • Posted: 12/1/2016 5:53pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Huddle Up: Bortles' big games have been few and far between this season, and he should be left on the bench in Week 13 against a stingy Denver secondary.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 6:42pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) completed 13 of his 26 pass attempts for 126 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Buffalo Bills. He also ran eight times for a team-high 81 yards.

Huddle Up: Bortles entered the week dealing with a right shoulder issue, and perhaps that was the reason he was a bit inaccurate and had an inability to throw it down the field. Still, he helped fantasy owners with two TD strikes and the rushing yardage.

  • Posted: 11/24/2016 6:42pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 24.

Huddle Up: Bortles will likely play through the injury, but he has been a risky option all year. He is a low-end starter in deep leagues only against Buffalo in Week 12.

  • Posted: 11/21/2016 11:41am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) is expected to play after battling through a shoulder injury in a Week 11 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Huddle Up: Bortles played all but one snap Sunday. As has become his trademark, he turned in another decent day in fantasy but played a below-average game in reality. Garbage-time production has saved Bortles a number of times this season and made him a passable QB2 when his actual play should be getting him benched on a regular basis. With the bye-week crunch mostly over, owners should be able to move on from him.

  • Posted: 11/20/2016 5:49pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 202 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 11 game against the Detroit Lions. He also rushed once for three yards. He banged up his shoulder and was treated on the sidelines before returning.

Huddle Up: Bortles has tossed at least two touchdowns in each of his past four games, and he has at least one TD in each of his 10 starts this season. He remains a solid low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats heading into Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills

  • Posted: 11/14/2016 11:11am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is in no danger of losing his starting job, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Huddle Up: At this point, it would be more than fair to say both men are playing for their jobs to some degree. Bortles continues to post very useful fantasy totals on the strength of garbage-time stats and extreme volume despite playing dreadful football in reality. The third-year pro should remain in the low-end QB1 conversation in Week 11, as he'll face one of the softest pass defenses in the league in the Detroit Lions.

  • Posted: 11/13/2016 2:59pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles threw a pick six in the first quarter and lost a fumble against the Houston Texans in Week 10. He settled down to throw two touchdowns and 265 yards on 32-for-49 passing.

Huddle Up: Bortles tends to offer decent fantasy stats in garbage time but will cost you points with his penchant for turnovers. The Jaguars travel to the Detroit Lions in Week 11 for what is a statistically sound matchup to exploit.

  • Posted: 11/6/2016 2:34pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 22-for-41 for 252 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9.

Huddle Up: Bortles has thrown for at least two touchdowns in five of his eight starts but has also struggled with interceptions this season. He is scheduled to face the Houston Texans in Week 10 and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback for owners.

  • Posted: 11/5/2016 7:07pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles worked with his personal passing coach Monday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 1, to help fix his sloppy mechanics.

Huddle Up: Bortles has regressed after tossing 35 touchdowns last season, and he should be viewed as a QB2 in Week 9 against Kansas City's opportunistic secondary.

  • Posted: 10/27/2016 9:20pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 33 of his 54 passes for a season-high 337 yards and three touchdowns, all in the second half, in a 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Oct. 27.

Huddle Up: Bortles padded his stats after the game was out of reach, but his fantasy owners won't complain. Garbage time points still count, and Jacksonville's suspect defense should have Bortles throwing early and often all year.

  • Posted: 10/24/2016 7:06pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has struggled this season, and after his worst performance of the season head coach Gus Bradley gave his quarterback a vote of confidence. 'I firmly, firmly believe in Blake Bortles,' Bradley said Monday, Oct. 24. 'Without a doubt. I think it was a challenging day yesterday about some of the situations we were in, but as far as the competitor?and what he brings to this team, there is no about.'

Huddle Up: Bortles entered the season as a Top 10 fantasy option at his position, but so far he has taken a step back after a breakout 2015 and is well on pace for lower touchdown passes and slightly fewer yards. He is more of a high-end QB2 and bye-week replacement at this point until he turns things around.

  • Posted: 10/23/2016 8:27pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 23 of his 43 pass attempts for 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders. He also ran five times for 33 yards.

Huddle Up: Bortles threw for 4,428 yards with 35 touchdowns in 16 games last season, but slightly off that yardage pace this season, and well off the mark in terms of touchdowns. He should still be treated as a low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, but adding depth at the position isn't a bad idea at this point.

  • Posted: 10/16/2016 2:32pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 20-for-33 for 271 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Chicago Bears in Week 6.

Huddle Up: Bortles has thrown eight touchdowns in the first five games of the season but he has also thrown seven interceptions in that span. He does have weapons to work with in the passing game and could be a decent starting option next week against the Oakland Raiders.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 10:33am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 19-for-33 for 207 yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. He also rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Huddle Up: Bortles has thrown two touchdowns in each of the last three games and went without an interception for the first time this season. Bortles has the weapons to work with on offense and can be a starting fantasy quarterback against certain matchups.

  • Posted: 9/30/2016 5:38am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles had 548 yards and four touchdowns in two games against the Indianapolis Colts last season.

Huddle Up: Bortles has thrown for 843 yards in three games, but he has thrown six interceptions to just five touchdowns. He's a low-end QB1 with a good matchup this week.

  • Posted: 9/25/2016 2:52pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 24-for-38 for 194 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. He also rushed for 17 yards on three carries during the game.

Huddle Up: Bortles has thrown six interceptions in his first three games but also has five touchdowns during that span. He is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 and should be a decent No. 1 quarterback for fantasy owners.

  • Posted: 8/20/2016 9:04pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed eight of his 11 pass attempts for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Huddle Up: Bortles connected with Allen Hurns and T.J. Yeldon on touchdown strikes, and he certainly looks like he is ready to take another step forward. As long as Allen Robinson, Hurns and Julius Thomas can stay healthy, Bortles will be a solid QB1 in all fantasy formats.

  • Posted: 8/1/2016 8:07am ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is 'owning' the offense more this year, head coach Gus Bradley said Sunday, July 31.

Huddle Up: Bortles is coming off a big season, and he has plenty of weapons at his disposal in the passing game. He is firmly in the conversation of the top-five fantasy quarterbacks.

  • Posted: 5/15/2016 11:03pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will be able to jump into offseason work right away on his own because he knows the offense now, as opposed to last year when he waiting for instruction, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

Huddle Up: Bortles came out of nowhere to finish third among fantasy QBs last season, and he appears to be anything but a one-season wonder with continued improvement and a young and talented cast to work with.
