New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo may end up sticking with the team for 2017 and beyond, as there is a 'persistent belief within league circles' that they truly want to keep him. The thinking is that QB Tom Brady's 'magic number' is three more years or perhaps fewer if he wins one more Super Bowl, and that head coach Bill Belichick has decided after one year of working with him that he doesn't believe QB Jacoby Brissett will become a 'true franchise quarterback.'

Huddle Up: For owners looking to ride Garoppolo in the upcoming campaign while he begins his journey on another club, it's starting to look like that may never come to fruition. Obviously, if he becomes a starter somewhere else, he'll be someone worth watching, but at this point in time it looks like he'll hold no fantasy value while remaining behind Brady in New England.

The Cleveland Browns will continue their efforts to trade for New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to sources.

Huddle Up: The Patriots are reportedly asking for the No. 1 overall pick in next month's draft. Meanwhile, the Browns have two 2017 first-round picks, two 2017 second-round selections and three second-round picks in 2018 following the Brock Osweiler trade. With that much ammunition, Cleveland could also consider a more proven veteran with a long-term contract. (Garoppolo is set to become a free agent in 2018.) Whichever route the Browns go, their quarterback will be no more than a low-end QB2 option in fantasy in 2017.

  • Posted: 3/5/2017 5:43pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't been traded because no team has come close to meeting the asking price, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Unless a team steps up and makes a move for Garoppolo, he is going to be a fantasy afterthought as he sits behind Tom Brady for another year.

  • Posted: 3/2/2017 6:26pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could still be traded if the offer is right and 'everything is still on the table,' according to a league source.

Huddle Up: Unless Garoppolo is traded, his fantasy value will continue to be limited to dynasty formats.

  • Posted: 3/1/2017 5:58am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is unlikely to be traded, according to league sources.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo has zero fantasy luster behind Tom Brady, and he'll need a trade in order to have a pulse in fantasy in 2017.

  • Posted: 2/12/2017 10:29am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to attract a second-round selection from interested teams this offseason, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Huddle Up: There have been reports that Garoppolo's price tag may be as high as a first- and fourth-rounder, but this sounds more reasonable. Volin notes that Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb, Matt Schaub were traded under similar circumstances and all fetched second-round picks. Regardless of where he lands, he'll probably settle in as a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 2/6/2017 12:33am ET

The Cleveland Browns may be interested in New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo if the price is right.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo will be due for a change of scenery, considering QB Tom Brady will likely play up to five more seasons. Depending on where he lands, Garoppolo could be an interesting QB2 or QB3 option.

  • Posted: 2/4/2017 5:58pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo was Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's No. 2-ranked quarterback in the 2014 NFL draft, according to a source. 'He was a very good thrower,'' Shanahan said. 'Tough guy, kept his eyes down the field, could get rid of the ball fast.'

Huddle Up: Shanahan is expected to be named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers following Super Bowl 51, and his high regard for Garoppolo could make the 49ers a major player for the quarterback this offseason.

  • Posted: 1/31/2017 9:26am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could be a possible trade target for the Houston Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

Huddle Up: The asking price for Garoppolo is expected to be at least a first-round pick, although the Patriots have plenty of reason to keep him around with Tom Brady turning 40 next season. The interesting part here is that acquiring Garoppolo wouldn't be impossible for the Texans, who are projected to have $25.5 million in salary cap space despite owing Brock Osweiler $16 million guaranteed for 2017. With that said, it seems much more likely Houston will give Osweiler another chance to prove himself this season.

  • Posted: 1/24/2017 9:51am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to a hot name on the trade market this offseason, but the MMQB's Andrew Brandt believes it is 'delusional' to think another team will hand over a first-round pick for the backup signal-caller.

Huddle Up: There has been some speculation the price the Minnesota Vikings paid for Sam Bradford this summer - a first and a fourth - would be the 'starting point' for negotiations for Garoppolo, but it is highly unlikely another team would pay that price given how relatively unproven Garoppolo is and given the fact they won't be in the desperate position Vikings were following Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury. Garoppolo is also set to become a free agent in 2018, further reducing the likelihood he'll draw a massive draft haul.

  • Posted: 1/22/2017 10:10am ET

The New England Patriots will be willing to listen to trade offers for QB Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason and will be looking for at least a first-round pick in return. The Patriots will also have to make sure they are comfortable with QB Jacoby Brissett as their No. 2 quarterback before moving Garoppolo.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo likely will be a trade target for multiple teams this offseason, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He threw for 502 yards and four touchdowns in his limited playing time this season and likely will be a starting quarterback in 2017. He probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season no matter where he plays.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 7:41am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) has been declared inactive for Week 4's game against the Buffalo Bills, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo was a limited participant in practice throughout the week but was deemed unable to play following pregame warmups Sunday, Oct. 2. QB Jacoby Brissett will receive the start versus Buffalo, with WR Julian Edelman serving as the second-string quarterback. However, Brissett should not be considered a strong fantasy option because the Patriots are expected to run more than normal.

  • Posted: 10/1/2016 5:19pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo's status for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills could be determined after pre-game warmups.

Huddle Up: With a decision on Garoppolo potentially coming down to the wire, fantasy owners need to have a backup plan in place.

  • Posted: 10/1/2016 3:26pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and QB Jacoby Brissett (thumb) are still listed as questionable for Week 4, and the team has not decided which quarterback will start. The Patriots may wait to see how they both feel during pregame warmups before making a decision.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo likely will be the starting quarterback if he is healthy enough to play, so owners will need to check the inactive list. The Patriots likely will run the ball more often in Week 4 and neither quarterback will be a great fantasy option.

  • Posted: 9/30/2016 3:43pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to check the inactive list before the game, but Garoppolo likely will start if he is active for the game. He probably will be limited if he plays in Week 4 and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 9/28/2016 1:24pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo was exceptional before suffering a shoulder injury in Week 2, and his status for Week 4 remains unknown. Tom Brady is eligible to return from suspension in Week 5, so Garoppolo's eyeing a one-week window to help fantasy players. However, given the uncertainty of his health, he's an ill-advised option to count on.

  • Posted: 9/28/2016 11:06am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was able to throw some passes during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and also worked on pocket mobility. He did not favor his shoulder during stretching or when he threw the ball.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Garoppolo will have a chance to play in Week 4. He would be a risky option for owners if he plays because the team could limit his pass attempts. Owners probably should look for other options at quarterback this week.

  • Posted: 9/28/2016 7:11am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) is still in pain and doesn't have full mobility in his right shoulder, according to a source.

Huddle Up: There's a good chance Jacoby Brissett (thumb) is under center against the Buffalo Bills this week. He'd be a low-end filler for a bye week quarterback.

  • Posted: 9/23/2016 8:49pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) has a chance to play against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo will be worth a look in DFS formats if he is able to play, but his status will have to monitored throughout the coming week.

  • Posted: 9/22/2016 9:32am ET

Contrary to a previous report, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) is not expected to dress for the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback with Julian Edelman as the backup if Garoppolo is inactive. Brissett probably will not throw the ball much and should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 9/22/2016 7:50am ET

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett will start Thursday, Sept. 22, against the Houston Texans. QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) will dress as his backup.

Huddle Up: Brissett has a tough matchup, and the rookie is not a good fantasy option in Week 3.

  • Posted: 9/21/2016 2:15pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21, and listed as doubtful for the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans Thursday, Sept. 22.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is not expected to play Thursday, and with Tom Brady set to return from suspension in Week 5, Garoppolo's fantasy value is vanishing. Jacoby Brissett is likely to start under center the next two games, but the rookie is extremely raw and should be viewed as a desperation fantasy start against Houston this week.

  • Posted: 9/20/2016 1:51pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was limited in practice Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Huddle Up: As previously stated, Garoppolo could very well be a game-time decision. Jacoby Brissett would start if Garoppolo is sidelined. In that case, the Houston Texans defense would be a top fantasy play in Week 3 and New England's offensive players would take a hit in value.

  • Posted: 9/20/2016 5:35am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) could still wind up starting Week 3 if he can tolerate the pain Thursday, Sept. 22, against the Houston Texans.

Huddle Up: It seems 40-60 at best that Garoppolo plays. When you think about it, he only has two more weeks to play until Tom Brady returns, so it would make sense to push it. Ben Roethlisberger played with the injury last season, though he was physically limited. Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett aren't good options in fantasy this week.

  • Posted: 9/19/2016 5:54am ET

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) will miss the Week 3 game Thursday, Sept. 22, but there is hope he can return for Week 4.

Huddle Up: Jacoby Brissett was 6-for-9 for 92 yards in place of Garoppolo, but he'll face the fierce Houston Texans defense in Week 3. Brissett should be avoided. If you need the roster space, you can cut Garoppolo.

  • Posted: 9/19/2016 5:37am ET

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) missing three to four weeks is 'reasonable and fair,' according to a source close to him.

Huddle Up: Jacoby Brissett was 6-for-9 for 92 yards in place of Garoppolo, but his fantasy prowess is pretty meager the next two weeks until Tom Brady returns. If Garoppolo is indeed out for two weeks or more, he can be dropped.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 8:28pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) doesn't have as bad of an injury as first believed, according to sources. He has a sprained AC joint and will still miss the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans Thursday, Sept. 22.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo can be safely dropped in all fantasy leagues, as if he missed two more games, he will have no fantasy value with Tom Brady returning in Week 5. Jacoby Brissett is expected to start at least in Week 3.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 2:25pm ET

Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) could miss six weeks based on the early indications, according to a source. Garoppolo is still undergoing tests in the shoulder.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to continue to monitor the situation so they can have a better timetable on Garoppolo. Jacoby Brissett likely will be the starting quarterback until Tom Brady returns from his suspension. Owners should avoid Brissett next week and probably will be able to find better options to use in Week 4. LeGarrette Blount's value should receive a boost since the team likely will run more with Brissett as the quarterback.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 2:23pm ET

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) went to a Boston-area hospital Sunday, Sept. 18, for additional testing on his injured right shoulder. The tests were inconclusive.

Huddle Up: Not much to say until more is known ... stay tuned.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 1:48pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) went 18-for-27 for 234 yards and three touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 before he left the game because of a shoulder injury.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to look for an update on Garoppolo's status over the next 24 hours since the team's next game is Thursday, Sept. 22. Jacoby Brissett would start if Garoppolo is unable to play but would not be a strong fantasy option.

  • Posted: 9/18/2016 11:18am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the team's Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return. QB Jacoby Brissett has replaced Garoppolo as the starting quarterback.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo took a hard hit during the game and may have suffered a serious shoulder injury, so owners will need to look for an update in the near future. Brissett would be the starting quarterback for the next two games if Garoppolo is ruled out but would not be a strong starting option for fantasy owners.

  • Posted: 8/12/2016 8:43am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 11 of his 18 passes for 168 yards in the first half of the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Aug. 11.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo didn't exactly light it up, but until Tom Brady returns from his suspension, he is worth considering as a DFS sleeper.

  • Posted: 8/11/2016 8:58am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo will make the start Thursday, Aug. 11, against the New Orleans Saints in the preseason opener with QB Tom Brady resting.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is set to start the first four games of the regular season with Brady suspended, so this makes sense since he'll get a chance to build rapport with his receivers in game situations. Garoppolo is worth a look in fantasy leagues which start two QBs, and possibly a contrarian DFS play. Chances are, he will be nothing more than a game manager for the Pats.

  • Posted: 4/26/2016 2:32pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo has made great strides, according to head coach Bill Belichick. 'The reps that he's gotten on the field in preseason games and in practice,' Belichick said, 'I think hes shown a lot of development - better understanding, quicker recognition and reading of the defenses, more awareness of what's happening on the defensive side of the ball, better communication, better understanding of the offense - really everything.'

Huddle Up: Garoppolo has attempted 31 regular-season passes in two seasons, but unless the DeflateGate mess is extended -- and why wouldn't it be after we've been tormented this long? -- he'll be be facing the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills to open the season. And it's not like you still won't be starting Gronk, no matter who's playing QB in N.E.
