San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 381 yards and a touchdown in a narrow Week 15 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is slowly playing into a QB1 role that could carry into next season. This is another strong outing for the former New England Patriots backup, and it came in a game where a lot of people had the Titans favored.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 6:22pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 20 of his 33 passes for a career-high 334 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 26-16 win over the Houston Texans in Week 14.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is off to a solid start as San Francisco's starter, but he should still be viewed as a QB2 in fantasy circles.

  • Posted: 12/3/2017 3:04pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 26-of-37 pass attempts for 293 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 13 game against the Chicago Bears.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo was sacked twice and he fumbled once, although he was able to recover. Still, he did enough to help the team to a road win in his first start with the team, and he'll likely remain under center from here on out. Still, his fantasy value remains more as a low-end QB2 at this point.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo doesn't know the entire offense yet, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, but Shanahan said they will only use plays Garoppolo is '100 percent' comfortable with against the Chicago Bears in Week 13.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is worth stashing in keeper formats, but don't expect him to make a meaningful fantasy contribution this season.

  • Posted: 11/28/2017 3:39pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo will start his first game as a 49er in Week 13 against the Chicago Bears.

Huddle Up: A new era begins for the 49ers, at least for a week. Garoppolo was solid in minimal playing time a week ago, completing both of his passes for 18 yards and a touchdown. He is a speculative add off waivers, but he's not worthy of fantasy starter status right away.

  • Posted: 11/26/2017 4:22pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo entered play late in the fourth quarter of the Week 12 game against the Seattle Seahawks for the injured QB C.J. Beathard (leg).

Huddle Up: Beathard left the game with 1:07 to play, so Garoppolo entered and immediately ran for a first down to keep a drive alive. He then threw a touchdown strike to Louis Murphy Jr. with no time left on the clock. The source and severity of Beathard's injury is not yet known, but it might finally be Jimmy Time in Frisco.

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo could receive the franchise tag next season, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'It would be great if it could work out that way (a long-term contract), but that's just not the situation any of us are in,' Shanahan said. 'That is the good thing about the franchise tag and that's what, to me, made it an easier decision to trade for him.'

Huddle Up: San Francisco is in no rush to start Garoppolo after trading for him, but it sounds like he will be with the 49ers next year, even if it means San Francisco has to tag him. He will be worth a look as fantasy backup in 2018, but he is unproven and probably won't have a lot of weapons around him.

San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard will start Week 12 over QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Huddle Up: Beathard has actually played really well from a fantasy perspective. His running ability has made him a valuable commodity and a fantasy asset. That being said, he's not a recommended start versus the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

  • Posted: 11/5/2017 7:36am ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo may begin long-term contract talks with the 49ers as soon as next week, according to sources. The 49ers would like to avoid placing the franchise tag on Garoppolo this offseason.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo probably will not start until after the team's bye week but has a chance to start the final four or five games of the season. He can be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback but probably will not be a starting option.

  • Posted: 11/3/2017 8:02am ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo will dress for Week 9, but head coach Kyle Shanahan wants him to receive more practice repetitions and better support before he plays.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo is expected to play in two or three weeks. However, he doesn't have much around him right now to be excited about for a fantasy stash. He could wind up being a matchup play late in the season.

  • Posted: 11/1/2017 5:56pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to serve as the No. 2 quarterback against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, and head coach Kyle Shanahan did not rule out the possibility of Garoppolo not playing in any game this season. Shanahan said Garoppolo will need time to learn the offensive system and the verbiage the team uses.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to monitor the situation over the next few weeks to see if Garoppolo will join the starting lineup at some point. He has had some success in his limited playing time in the NFL but should only be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he becomes the starter.

  • Posted: 10/31/2017 5:05pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo may not make his first start with the team until the 49ers return from their Week 11 bye, according to the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows.

Huddle Up: It makes plenty of sense, as head coach Kyle Shanahan's offensive system isn't the easiest to learn and San Francisco's only rush to get Garoppolo on the field is to figure out whether or not it wants to slap the franchise tag on him after the season - assuming either side even lets it get to that point. C.J. Beathard will start in the interim and will not be a good option for owners over that time.

  • Posted: 10/30/2017 5:13pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo was acquired by the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Oct. 30, in exchange for a 2018 second-round draft choice, according to sources.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo likely will be the starting quarterback against the Arizona Cardinals this week and should receive a long-term deal from the 49ers in the near future. He should not be a starting option for fantasy owners at this point.

  • Posted: 4/23/2017 5:14pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo 'isn't going anywhere,' according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Huddle Up: With Garoppolo slated for backup duty again in 2017, he won't have much fantasy value outside of keeper leagues.

  • Posted: 4/23/2017 11:27am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo figures to be the target of several last-ditch trade attempts from the Cleveland Browns leading up to the start of the 2017 NFL Draft, but the Boston Herald's Karen Guregian considers a potential deal a 'long shot' that would require an 'overwhelming offer'.

Huddle Up: The Patriots have stood firm all spring on Garoppolo and consider him more valuable than the 12th overall selection, while the Browns have shown no desire to trade the No. 1 overall pick, so don't expect a deal to happen between now and Thursday. Texas A&M's Myles Garrett remains the favorite for the top pick, although the Browns' front office and coaching staff is reportedly split between him and North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky.

  • Posted: 3/16/2017 3:29pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo may end up sticking with the team for 2017 and beyond, as there is a 'persistent belief within league circles' that they truly want to keep him. The thinking is that QB Tom Brady's 'magic number' is three more years or perhaps fewer if he wins one more Super Bowl, and that head coach Bill Belichick has decided after one year of working with him that he doesn't believe QB Jacoby Brissett will become a 'true franchise quarterback.'

Huddle Up: For owners looking to ride Garoppolo in the upcoming campaign while he begins his journey on another club, it's starting to look like that may never come to fruition. Obviously, if he becomes a starter somewhere else, he'll be someone worth watching, but at this point in time it looks like he'll hold no fantasy value while remaining behind Brady in New England.

  • Posted: 3/9/2017 3:30pm ET

The Cleveland Browns will continue their efforts to trade for New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo, according to sources.

Huddle Up: The Patriots are reportedly asking for the No. 1 overall pick in next month's draft. Meanwhile, the Browns have two 2017 first-round picks, two 2017 second-round selections and three second-round picks in 2018 following the Brock Osweiler trade. With that much ammunition, Cleveland could also consider a more proven veteran with a long-term contract. (Garoppolo is set to become a free agent in 2018.) Whichever route the Browns go, their quarterback will be no more than a low-end QB2 option in fantasy in 2017.

  • Posted: 3/5/2017 5:43pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't been traded because no team has come close to meeting the asking price, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Unless a team steps up and makes a move for Garoppolo, he is going to be a fantasy afterthought as he sits behind Tom Brady for another year.

  • Posted: 3/2/2017 6:26pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could still be traded if the offer is right and 'everything is still on the table,' according to a league source.

Huddle Up: Unless Garoppolo is traded, his fantasy value will continue to be limited to dynasty formats.

  • Posted: 3/1/2017 5:58am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is unlikely to be traded, according to league sources.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo has zero fantasy luster behind Tom Brady, and he'll need a trade in order to have a pulse in fantasy in 2017.

  • Posted: 2/12/2017 10:29am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to attract a second-round selection from interested teams this offseason, according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Huddle Up: There have been reports that Garoppolo's price tag may be as high as a first- and fourth-rounder, but this sounds more reasonable. Volin notes that Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb, Matt Schaub were traded under similar circumstances and all fetched second-round picks. Regardless of where he lands, he'll probably settle in as a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 2/6/2017 12:33am ET

The Cleveland Browns may be interested in New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo if the price is right.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo will be due for a change of scenery, considering QB Tom Brady will likely play up to five more seasons. Depending on where he lands, Garoppolo could be an interesting QB2 or QB3 option.

  • Posted: 2/4/2017 5:58pm ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo was Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's No. 2-ranked quarterback in the 2014 NFL draft, according to a source. 'He was a very good thrower,'' Shanahan said. 'Tough guy, kept his eyes down the field, could get rid of the ball fast.'

Huddle Up: Shanahan is expected to be named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers following Super Bowl 51, and his high regard for Garoppolo could make the 49ers a major player for the quarterback this offseason.

  • Posted: 1/31/2017 9:26am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo could be a possible trade target for the Houston Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

Huddle Up: The asking price for Garoppolo is expected to be at least a first-round pick, although the Patriots have plenty of reason to keep him around with Tom Brady turning 40 next season. The interesting part here is that acquiring Garoppolo wouldn't be impossible for the Texans, who are projected to have $25.5 million in salary cap space despite owing Brock Osweiler $16 million guaranteed for 2017. With that said, it seems much more likely Houston will give Osweiler another chance to prove himself this season.

  • Posted: 1/24/2017 9:51am ET

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to a hot name on the trade market this offseason, but the MMQB's Andrew Brandt believes it is 'delusional' to think another team will hand over a first-round pick for the backup signal-caller.

Huddle Up: There has been some speculation the price the Minnesota Vikings paid for Sam Bradford this summer - a first and a fourth - would be the 'starting point' for negotiations for Garoppolo, but it is highly unlikely another team would pay that price given how relatively unproven Garoppolo is and given the fact they won't be in the desperate position Vikings were following Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury. Garoppolo is also set to become a free agent in 2018, further reducing the likelihood he'll draw a massive draft haul.

  • Posted: 1/22/2017 10:10am ET

The New England Patriots will be willing to listen to trade offers for QB Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason and will be looking for at least a first-round pick in return. The Patriots will also have to make sure they are comfortable with QB Jacoby Brissett as their No. 2 quarterback before moving Garoppolo.

Huddle Up: Garoppolo likely will be a trade target for multiple teams this offseason, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He threw for 502 yards and four touchdowns in his limited playing time this season and likely will be a starting quarterback in 2017. He probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season no matter where he plays.
