Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) will not need surgery on his injured finger and may be able to throw again before the end of offseason workouts, according to his agent.

Huddle Up: That sound you heard was the sigh of relief coming from Raider Nation as the second-year QB can use all the time he can find to adapt to a new offense and build a rapport his shiny new toys, including draft picks Amari Cooper and TE Clive Walford.

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has a right ring finger injury that could be surgically repaired. A return for training camp is still achievable, however, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Even though Carr isn't likely to miss as much as a training camp practice, the second-year QB still might miss valuable time getting used to the Raiders' new coaches and offense and building an on-field rapport with first-round pick Amari Cooper.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is excited for the team's no-huddle offense under new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. 'Sometimes, the games were really slow for me [last season],' Carr said. 'It was almost like I was waiting for it to speed up.' Carr had experience with the no-huddle offense in college at Fresno State University and said he's very comfortable in it.

Huddle Up: Carr, selected in the second round as the fourth QB drafted overall, led all rookies with 348 completions, 3,270 yards and 21 TD passes last season and figures to improve in a new up-tempo attack, especially if the Raiders can provide him with some better weapons.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Huddle Up: There's been no indication Carr might miss this week's contest due to the injury, but it's not as if the Raiders are playing for anything so maybe they'll give him the week off to heal.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will remain the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Tony Sparano. Carr was pulled from the Week 13 contest versus the St. Louis Rams early in the fourth quarter.

Huddle Up: The other options are Matt Schaub and Matt McGloin and those ships sailed a long time ago. And with the Raiders certainly not playing for much of anything (again) the rest of the way, it wouldn't make any sense to not keep the rookie in to learn under fire.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (quadriceps) was limited in practiceTuesday, Nov. 18.

Huddle Up: The rookie was listed as limited for the second straight day, but there's been no indication that he's in any danger of missing Thursday night's game against the Chiefs.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (ankle, knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 16.

Huddle Up: The rookie will be good to go Sunday as he looks for a second straight strong fantasy outing after throwing for a season-high 282 yards and 4 scores last Sunday against the Chargers.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (ankle, knee) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Huddle Up: Carr's ankle injury limited his practice work last week, but he showed up on Sunday and threw four TDs. The Raiders are being cautious, but there's no reason to think he won't answer the bell again this week.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (ankle, knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 9.

Huddle Up: The rookie has been limited coming off the bye week, but he has told ESPN he plans to play Sunday against the Chargers.

  • Posted: 10/1/2014 8:56pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (ankle, knee) said he expects to play against the San Diego Chargers in Week 6 following the team's bye week.

Huddle Up: Carr has played decent this year given the circumstances. However, the rookie remains a low end QB2 in Oakland's mess of an offense.

  • Posted: 8/21/2014 6:52pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will not play Friday, Aug. 22, against the Green Bay Packers due to sore ribs.

Huddle Up: Newly named Week 1 starter Matt Schaub should get -- and needs -- at least a half of work Friday, but look for Carr to play almost the entire final exhibition contest if he's sufficiently recovered.

  • Posted: 8/16/2014 11:40am ET

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (concussion) suffered a concussion and not an injury to his ribs during the second preseason game, according to head coach Dennis Allen.

Huddle Up: Carr will now go through the concussion protocol before returning to action. Matt Schaub hasn't been impressive this preseason but he's set to began the year under center for the Raiders with Carr likely getting starts as well at some point throughout the season.

  • Posted: 6/13/2014 2:13pm ET

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said QB Derek Carr has made significant improvement in his brief time with the team. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Carr is a lot better than they thought he would be.

Huddle Up: The Raiders have Matt Schaub as a placeholder quarterback, but they wouldn't be disappointed if Carr came along more quickly than expected.
