Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg) said he is close to fully recovered from the fractured fibula he suffered during the regular season, according to OT Donald Penn.

Huddle Up: Carr could be limited during some of the offseason workouts but should be a full participant when training camp starts. He was tied for seventh in the NFL with his 28 touchdowns and finished with 3,937 yards and only six interceptions. He will have several weapons to work with in the passing game and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 2/16/2017 10:46am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will have a voice in the game planning, according to new offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who was promoted from quarterbacks coach after former offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave's contract expired. 'There's been a lot made about his command at the line of scrimmage. There's certainly going to be opportunities for Derek to do that,' Downing said. '... Where I see him needing a little bit more command is just being able to share his thoughts of game plans. Being a student of the game, as he already is, but vocalize what he likes and doesn't like. I think my relationship with him is something that's going to give him the opportunity to voice his opinions. I look forward to him really taking charge of expressing his thoughts on the offense.'

Huddle Up: Carr was in the conversation of NFL MVP before breaking his leg, and with few changes expected in the system, there is little reason to doubt he can have another special season. Carr is a rock-solid No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

  • Posted: 1/24/2017 2:16pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr could be in negotiations for a contract extension in the near future, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie. Carr is heading into a contract year in 2017.

Huddle Up: Carr is the future of the Raiders on offense, so it would behoove Oakland to sign him to a long-term deal sooner rather than later. As long as he fully recovers from his broken fibula, he'll be a QB1 option for 2017 fantasy drafts.

  • Posted: 1/20/2017 7:43am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will have discussions on a contract extension this offseason, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie. Carr will be in the final year of his contract in 2017, and there is no fifth-year option on him.

Huddle Up: Carr's numbers this season are pretty close to his sophomore season in 2015, but the exception is that he cut his interceptions in half. His completion percentage was up a tick to 63.8%. He'll be a midrange QB1 option in fantasy drafts.

  • Posted: 1/3/2017 3:45pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg, finger) suffered a broken finger in Week 12, not just a dislocation as previously believed.

Huddle Up: Carr's finger isn't as worrisome with the broken fibula he's recovering from now. The fact that he played with a break and dislocations in his finger is a testament to his toughness, though. He's a QB1 candidate again next season, assuming his leg makes a full recovery.

  • Posted: 12/28/2016 8:22am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg) is aiming to return if the Raiders advance to the Super Bowl, but he's considered an extreme long shot.

Huddle Up: Carr had a fantastic season, but a return this year is unlikely. He'll be a midrange QB1 option in drafts next season.

  • Posted: 12/27/2016 12:37pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (fibula) underwent successful surgery Tuesday, Dec. 27, and is doing well, according to his mother. Carr is expected to be fully recovered from his broken fibula in six to eight weeks.

Huddle Up: If the Raiders can win throughout the playoffs then Carr could return in time for the Super Bowl. As for Week 17, though, Matt McGloin is not even close to being a starting fantasy option against one of the best pass defenses in the NFL in the Denver Broncos.

  • Posted: 12/26/2016 9:52am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (fibula) will undergo surgery on his broken leg Tuesday, Dec. 27, and is expected to need six to eight weeks to recover.

Huddle Up: While the low end of that timeline he suggests could make it back in time for the Super Bowl, Carr's season is effectively over, as expected. Impending free-agent Matt McGloin will start in his absence and could stand to make himself a lot of money this spring with a nice showing over the next couple of weeks. With that said, McGloin will be nearly impossible to start in fantasy this week or during the NFL Playoffs.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 4:11pm ET

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (fibula) suffered a broken fibula in the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts and he will require surgery, ending his season.

Huddle Up: With Carr going down, Matt McGloin will be the starting signal caller for Week 17 and into the playoffs for the Raiders. McGloin is a capable backup, but he is no Carr. The loss hurts the fantasy appeal of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree heading into postseason pools, while perhaps giving a bump to their cadre of running backs.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 2:47pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg) suffered an apparent lower leg injury in the fourth quarter of the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He was in obvious pain rolling around on the ground while grimacing.

Huddle Up: Carr's leg was planted and twisted around after contact, and he was unable to put any weight on it while the training staff helped him off the field. Matt McGloin will replace him and likely finish up. For fantasy purposes, Carr was still able to post 228 yards and three touchdown strikes even if he cannot play another down in Week 16.

  • Posted: 12/22/2016 6:03pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

Huddle Up: Carr hasn't quite been the same player he was before the finger injury, but he has QB1 potential in Week 16 against a suspect Indianapolis defense.

  • Posted: 12/21/2016 5:58pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Huddle Up: Carr has had some problems with his throwing accuracy since suffering the injury and has thrown for less than 215 yards in each of his last two games. He will be facing the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16 and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

  • Posted: 12/20/2016 6:54am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has not taken a snap under center and has been in shotgun or pistol formations since he injured his finger. The team has been limited in what they can do, especially deep in the red zone, in the two formations. 'Yes, it is somewhat of an issue,' head coach Jack Del Rio said. 'It is not ideal. Being completely honest about it, it is an issue that we are working through. At some point, we will feel better about going under center, we will; but until then, we?ll execute the best we can out of the formations we feel most comfortable with.'

Huddle Up: Carr's completion percentage is 52.3% the last three games that he has played through the injury. He's also averaging just 196.7 passing yards per game and one score. He has a tough matchup against an Indianapolis Colts team that has shored up its pass defense in recent weeks. Carr is a midrange QB1 that has a caution flag attached to him.

  • Posted: 12/19/2016 5:22am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr was 19-for-30 for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Dec. 18.

Huddle Up: He hasn't put up great numbers two weeks in a row now, and the finger injury looks to be an issue. If you own him in traditional leagues, you're likely going to play him despite a tough matchup against the Indianapolis Colts next week.

  • Posted: 12/16/2016 3:15pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Huddle Up: Carr struggled in Week 14 because of his injury but recorded seven touchdowns and two interceptions in the previous three games. Carr is a bit of a risky option for owners, because the finger injury is on his throwing hand, but can still be a starting candidate in most leagues.

  • Posted: 12/15/2016 4:28pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) got in his second straight full practice Thursday, Dec. 15.

Huddle Up: While Carr has been a dependable QB1 for fantasy owners, he's coming off his worst outing of the season last Thursday night, which is probably a direct result of his injured pinkie that he sustained a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately, he will have had 10 days of rest going into Sunday's contest, so he figures to be in better shape and bounce back in a favorable matchup. Thus, his owners who are still alive should continue to lean on him under center.

  • Posted: 12/14/2016 7:22pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) was able to take part in a full practice session Wednesday, Dec. 14, despite the injury to the finger on his right hand.

Huddle Up: Carr is expected to continue playing without any interruption, wearing a glove on his throwing hand to protect his injury. He was terrible last week in Kansas City, passing for just 117 yards while completing 17 of his 41 pass attempts with no touchdowns for just the second time this season. However, frigid temperatures also might have played a part in his poor showing. He threw for 317 yards with two scores in Week 5 against the Chargers in the first meeting.

  • Posted: 12/8/2016 9:18pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 17 of his 41 pass attempts for 117 yards in a 21-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Dec. 8.

Huddle Up: It was Carr's worst game of the season, but he should return to form and deliver QB1 numbers against the Chargers in Week 14.

  • Posted: 12/6/2016 5:51pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) did not take a single snap under center last week. Not being under center eliminated any potentially risky center-to-quarterback exchanges with Carr's injured finger. Carr still managed 260 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 13 win. Head coach Jack Del Rio did not indicate if the Raiders would use the same strategy this week.

Huddle Up: Carr has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL this year, wherever he's taking a snap. He'll be in a hostile environment against the Kansas City Chiefs this Thursday night, but the Chiefs have been porous against the pass this year. Carr is a QB1 consideration again this week.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 10:38pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) completed 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 260 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 13 game against the Buffalo Bills. He also ran twice for four yards.

Huddle Up: Carr did not show any ill-effects from the finger injury he suffered last week. He remains a fantasy must-have in all leagues heading into Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night, although with sub-freezing temperatures the offense could take a while to warm up.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 9:38am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) said he expects to be fine and believes he will be able to handle snaps from under center. Carr will have a glove available to use but hopes not to use it.

Huddle Up: Carr probably will not be limited by the injury and likely will be asked to throw as much as he had before the injury. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/2/2016 3:37pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger, hand) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report for Week 13.

Huddle Up: Carr should not be limited by the injury and will see his normal workload against the Buffalo Bills. He has thrown for at least 295 yards in three of the last four games and should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues.

  • Posted: 12/1/2016 7:16pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 1, and he wasn't wearing a glove on his throwing hand.

Huddle Up: Carr faces an improved Buffalo defense in Week 13, but he should still be considered a QB1.

  • Posted: 11/30/2016 5:35pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Huddle Up: Carr appears to be on track to play in Week 13, but owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if he suffers any setbacks. He has thrown for at least 295 yards in three of the last four games and has nine touchdowns during that span. Carr can be a solid No. 1 quarterback in most leagues.

  • Posted: 11/28/2016 2:14pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) suffered two dislocations to one finger in Week 12, according to Carr's brother, retired NFL QB David Carr. He did not suffer any breaks, however.

Huddle Up: Carr should be able to play in Week 13 despite the painful injuries. He's proven himself to be a weekly QB1 consideration while throwing for an average of 283 yards and two touchdowns per game.

  • Posted: 11/28/2016 11:28am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) stated that he is experiencing expected soreness from his dislocated right pinkie finger, but he anticipates being ready to play in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills.

Huddle Up: Naturally, Oakland will play two games in five days beginning with Sunday's home tilt before traveling to Kansas City to face the Chiefs Thursday. Carr has emerged as a must-start QB1 this season and showed no virtually no drop-off after missing just one series with the injury. Expect Carr to be his usual self versus the Bills.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 10:40pm ET

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) completed 26 of his 38 pass attempts for 315 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers. He was able to return and finish the game after suffering a pinkie injury to his right hand.

Huddle Up: Carr was wearing a glove on his injured throwing hand upon returning, and looked sharp leading the rally to another win. It's likely the injury will not hinder him heading into Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, although their pass defense might cause more problems for him than Carolina's leaky pass D.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 3:21pm ET

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) returned to the field midway through the third quarter of the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers. He is wearing a protective glove over the injured area of his right hand.

Huddle Up: Carr's fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief, and the Panthers cut the lead of the Raiders to 24-19 since he departed, so there is little chance of a lopsided score cutting his day short.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 3:16pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) suffered a dislocation to either his right ring finger or pinkie in the third quarter of the Week 12 game against the Carolina Panthers, announcer Phil Simms speculated. Carr ran off to the locker room for treatment.

Huddle Up: If Carr cannot continue, Matt McGloin would take over for the rest of the game. The Raiders had a 24-7 lead at the time of the injury, so perhaps the score of the game plays a factor into whether Carr can return, too.

  • Posted: 11/21/2016 9:45pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts for 295 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Week 11 game against the Houston Texans in Mexico City. He also ran twice for minus-2 yards.

Huddle Up: Carr has thrown for seven touchdowns and just one interception over the past three games, and he has just four INTs in 385 pass attempts this season. Carr has emerged as a solid low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats heading into a favorable matchup against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12.

  • Posted: 11/6/2016 8:18am ET

The Oakland Raiders are hoping to sign QB Derek Carr to a contract extension during the offseason, according to a league source. He is likely to receive a deal similar to the five-year, $123 million contract given to Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck last summer.

Huddle Up: The 25-year-old Carr is having an outstanding season, with 2,321 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 66.3% passer rating through his first eight games. He should be viewed as a solid QB1 in fantasy leagues containing 12 or more teams.

  • Posted: 11/1/2016 5:36pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has averaged a mere 183.5 passing yards in four career games against the Denver Broncos -- his Week 9 opponent. Additionally, he has only thrown six touchdowns in those games while throwing four interceptions.

Huddle Up: Denver's defense has been one of the best in the league the last few seasons, and this year is no different. Carr is coming off a career performance in which he threw for over 500 yards, but he'll plummet back down to earth in Week 9. That's not to say he'll maintain his career averaged against the Broncos, but it might be better to bench Carr if there are better options on your roster.

  • Posted: 10/30/2016 4:30pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 40 of his 59 pass attempts for a franchise-record 513 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 8 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also rushed once for 13 yards.

Huddle Up: Carr has emerged as a must-start QB1 in all fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, but he'll likely find the sledding much tougher in Week 9 when the suffocating defense of the Denver Broncos come calling to the Black Hole.

  • Posted: 10/23/2016 8:32pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 200 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in his Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also ran four times for four yards.

Huddle Up: Carr has at least one passing touchdown in each of his seven games this season, but he has just one 300-yard passing game since Week 1. He is a solid bye-week replacement or low-end QB1 when your primary option has a difficult matchup.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 7:44pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 25 of his 35 pass attempts for 199 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Huddle Up: Carr's passing yardage has decreased in each of his games so far this season, but he has nine touchdowns and just one interception through four games. He has emerged as a solid low-end QB1 in most fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, especially with Michael Crabtree playing at a high level.

  • Posted: 9/25/2016 8:11pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for a season-low 249 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 3 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Huddle Up: Carr has managed at least 249 passing yards and one or more TD passes in each of his three starts. He has emerged as a borderline QB1/2 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, especially when the matchup is favorable.

  • Posted: 7/7/2016 7:41pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is more polished and isn't a gunslinger, according to former QB Brett Favre.

Huddle Up: In his second season, Carr finished with 339 fantasy points -- 13th among QBs -- and with that year of chemistry established with wideouts Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, don't be surprised to see Carr crack the QB1 ranks this season. He's certainly someone to keep an eye on if you wait to draft a QB.

  • Posted: 6/11/2016 11:46am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr and WR Amari Cooper have shown good chemistry during organized team activities. The two players were not able to work together last season because Carr was recovering from an injury.

Huddle Up: No surprise that Carr and Cooper are hooking up. Any extra chemistry they can develop heading into September will only improve both of their fantasy prospects.
