Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 23 of 36 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-20 win over the New York Jets in Week 8.

Huddle Up: Carr was impressive against a tough, albeit banged-up, Jets defense and is firmly establishing himself as the franchise quarterback the Raiders have sought for so long.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has improved his deep passing game this year, throwing six touchdowns on passes 20 yards or deeper, which is tied for the NFL lead. Carr struggled with the deep ball in his rookie season.

Huddle Up: Some better weaponry -- most notably stud rookie WR Amari Cooper -- certainly has helped, and he should be viewed as a QB2 with upside going forward.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (hand) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 16, according to head coach Jack Del Rio. Del Rio expects Carr to be able to play in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Huddle Up: Carr is expected to start but he has a tough matchup against a Ravens defense even without Terrell Suggs. He's not a recommended fantasy play for Week 2.

  • Posted: 9/16/2015 3:40pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (hand) threw in practice Wednesday, Sept. 16 and has given head coach Jack Del Rio optimism that Carr will play in Week 2.

Huddle Up: Carr missed the second half of the opener with a hand injury, but looks like he'll start Sunday against the Ravens. Check in on his practice progress the rest of the week to make sure.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) looks to be in 'good shape' as far as practicing and playing in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Jack Del Rio said Tuesday, Sept. 15. Carr left the Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but X-rays on his thumb were negative and he was diagnosed with a bruise.

Huddle Up: The good news is that Oakland's franchise QB looks like he'll be good to go for Week 2. The bad news is he'll face a Ravens defense that just shut out Peyton Manning.

  • Posted: 9/14/2015 9:31pm ET

Updating previous reports, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr's (thumb) tests showed 'nothing serious' with his hand, but head coach Jack Del Rio doesn't know if Carr will be able to play in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. However, Del Rio said the team is 'relieved,' and the swelling in Carr's hand has already started going down. The Raiders don't have any plans of adding another quarterback.

Huddle Up: Carr got off to a 7-of-12, 61-yard start before departing, and signs are already pointing to his return in Week 2. See what happens in practice this week.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) suffered a bruised thumb during the team's Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. X-rays on Carr's thumb were negative, and the team is waiting on his MRI results. His status for Week 2 will depend on the swelling in his thumb.

Huddle Up: It would obviously be better for Amari Cooper owners if Carr plays. If he can't, Matt McGloin or someone the Raiders bring in will be under center Sunday against the Ravens.

  • Posted: 8/5/2015 12:26am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr may look to throw more downfield this year due to new WRs Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, a new coaching staff and a more solid offensive line.

Huddle Up: Yeah, count on that happening one way or another as Carr easily finished with a league-worst 5.46 yards per attempt last season as a rookie, throwing for 3,270 yards on 599 passes.

  • Posted: 6/9/2015 3:57pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has been cleared to participate in the team's upcoming minicamp, according to a source. Carr may not be at full strength when throwing at minicamp but should be fully recovered by the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: Good news for the second-year QB who has a new offense and a new cast of pass-catchers, including first-round pick Amari Cooper, to adapt to.

  • Posted: 6/2/2015 8:24pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) threw a few passes during organized team activities Tuesday, June 2, as he continues to recover from an injury on the ring finger of his throwing hand. The injury is not considered serious. There is no timetable for when Carr will really start throwing or how long the recovery will take.

Huddle Up: It's a small setback with the second-year QB adjusting to a new offense, but the finger should be fine by the time training camp rolls around.

  • Posted: 5/22/2015 2:46pm ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) will not need surgery on his injured finger and may be able to throw again before the end of offseason workouts, according to his agent.

Huddle Up: That sound you heard was the sigh of relief coming from Raider Nation as the second-year QB can use all the time he can find to adapt to a new offense and build a rapport his shiny new toys, including draft picks Amari Cooper and TE Clive Walford.

  • Posted: 5/19/2015 7:46pm ET

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has a right ring finger injury that could be surgically repaired. A return for training camp is still achievable, however, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Even though Carr isn't likely to miss as much as a training camp practice, the second-year QB still might miss valuable time getting used to the Raiders' new coaches and offense and building an on-field rapport with first-round pick Amari Cooper.

  • Posted: 2/11/2015 12:13am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is excited for the team's no-huddle offense under new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. 'Sometimes, the games were really slow for me [last season],' Carr said. 'It was almost like I was waiting for it to speed up.' Carr had experience with the no-huddle offense in college at Fresno State University and said he's very comfortable in it.

Huddle Up: Carr, selected in the second round as the fourth QB drafted overall, led all rookies with 348 completions, 3,270 yards and 21 TD passes last season and figures to improve in a new up-tempo attack, especially if the Raiders can provide him with some better weapons.

  • Posted: 12/18/2014 10:12am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Huddle Up: There's been no indication Carr might miss this week's contest due to the injury, but it's not as if the Raiders are playing for anything so maybe they'll give him the week off to heal.

  • Posted: 12/3/2014 12:29am ET

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will remain the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Tony Sparano. Carr was pulled from the Week 13 contest versus the St. Louis Rams early in the fourth quarter.

Huddle Up: The other options are Matt Schaub and Matt McGloin and those ships sailed a long time ago. And with the Raiders certainly not playing for much of anything (again) the rest of the way, it wouldn't make any sense to not keep the rookie in to learn under fire.
