Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's next contract could be tough to negotiate, according to beat writer Jeff Schultz.

Huddle Up: Freeman has established himself as one of the most complete backs in the NFL, and he should be treated as a RB1 in all formats in 2017.

  • Posted: 2/23/2017 2:48pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman produced the best numbers of any backfield combination in 2016. Their main production came in the endzone, tallying a combined 24 total touchdowns. Freeman finished with over 1,500 total yards, while Coleman finished just shy of 1,000 total yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman will be the main guy going forward, but Coleman deserves credit. Despite backing up Freeman, Coleman ended the season as the RB18, one spot behind Lamar Miller and one spot ahead of Todd Gurley. It's hard to imagine they'll have similar seasons, but they have proven that they can successfully coexist. View Freeman as an RB1 with more value in PPR leagues, while Coleman should be drafted as an RB2.

  • Posted: 2/8/2017 5:04pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 10 of his 11 touchdowns at home this season. He finished the season with 521 yards at home and 558 yards on the road.

Huddle Up: Freeman received most of the carries for the Falcons this season and finished in the top 10 in terms of rushing yards during the regular season. He should continue to be the top running back for the Falcons and should be considered a No. 1 fantasy running back for owners next season.

  • Posted: 2/7/2017 12:06pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman and the Falcons are 'in good space,' according to Thomas Dimitroff, in regards to a contract extension. Dimitroff said both sides will discuss a deal at the 'appropriate time.'

Huddle Up: That appropriate time is probably after the Falcons are done wondering what happened in the Super Bowl. Freeman has quickly proven himself as one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL over the last two seasons. Freeman is an RB1 candidate in all formats even with Tevin Coleman splitting time with him.

  • Posted: 2/6/2017 1:12am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran 11 times for 75 yards and scored a touchdown in the team's 34-28 Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.

Huddle Up: Freeman didn't do anything to damage his stock as a solid RB1 going into the 2017 offseason. New England had trouble stopping Freeman early on, which was key to Atlanta's surge.

  • Posted: 2/1/2017 5:18am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman will receive at least the lowest restricted free-agent tender of $1.8 million in 2017 after reaching the collective bargaining agreement's proven performance escalator.

Huddle Up: Freeman has rushed 28 times for 87 yards (3.1 yards per rush) and a touchdown with a 8-122-1 line through the air this postseason. He has the most upside for a big game of the backs in the Super Bowl.

  • Posted: 1/30/2017 4:48pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is expected to have contract extension talks with the Falcons this offseason. His agent believes Freeman should be paid like one of the top three running backs in the NFL.

Huddle Up: Freeman rushed for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns during the regular season and has added 87 yards and one touchdown in the postseason. He has been sharing snaps with Tevin Coleman over the last few seasons but should continue to receive most of the carries in the running game. Owners in all leagues should consider him a No. 1 back in fantasy leagues next season.

  • Posted: 1/22/2017 4:23pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 14 times for 42 yards and caught four balls for another 42 yards and a touchdown Sunday, Jan. 22, in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

Huddle Up: Freeman's versatility makes him an every-week start for conventional fantasy purposes. He figures to once again share reps in 2017 with Tevin Coleman and is a reasonable RB1 target for PPR formats.

  • Posted: 1/19/2017 7:19am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown with four catches for 23 yards and another touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.

Huddle Up: The Falcons were without Tevin Coleman, and it was a close game, but the team kind of gave up on the run. Without those two touchdowns, it would have been a poor fantasy output for Freeman. The Packers have allowed just 11.1 fantasy points per game to RBs in the playoffs and no touchdowns. Freeman has a tough matchup in the NFC title game, but he'll be in the second tier of RBs in playoff pools.

  • Posted: 1/14/2017 4:54pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman totaled 125 yards in a NFC Divisional Round win over the Seattle Seahawks, rushing for 45 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and adding four catches for 80 yards.

Huddle Up: The rushing line isn't overly impressive, but Freeman did more than enough to make his DFS owners happy, scoring from a yard out in the third quarter. The highlight of his day was a 53-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter that set Atlanta up for a field goal on the drive after his score. Freeman will remain a very smart pick in all playoff formats next week regardless of whether the Falcons face the Dallas Cowboys or the Green Bay Packers.

  • Posted: 1/1/2017 10:28pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 12 times for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints, and he added five receptions for 81 yards on his only five targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman ended the regular season with 1,079 rushing yards and 11 rushing scores, while also posting 54 catches for 462 yards and two touchdowns. He will be a popular early-round fantasy option in 2017 drafts, especially PPR formats, and he is a must-have in postseason pools, too.

  • Posted: 12/24/2016 3:44pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran 13 times for 53 yards in the Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers. He also added eight receptions for 35 yards on his eight targets.

Huddle Up: It was a strange game for Freeman, who was outshined by Tevin Coleman in terms of total yardage and fantasy production.

  • Posted: 12/18/2016 10:45pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 20 times for 139 yards with three touchdowns in the Week 15 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He added two receptions for 16 yards on his two targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman took advantage of the matchup against the league's worst rushing defense and had himself a big day. The spaces might be less frequent in next week's road game in Carolina, but he remains a fantasy must-start option.

  • Posted: 12/4/2016 2:55pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. He also caught four passes for 49 yards during the game.

Huddle Up: Freeman has rushed for four touchdowns in his last two games and has been involved in the passing game in every game this season. Freeman should be considered a No. 1 or No. 2 running back moving forward.

  • Posted: 11/27/2016 2:24pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. He also caught two passes for 17 yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman received most of the carries during the game even with Tevin Coleman back in the lineup and likely will continue to lead the team in running attempts moving forward. He should be considered a No. 1 or No. 2 running back depending on the size of league.

  • Posted: 11/13/2016 6:30pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 12 times for 49 yards in the Week 10 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He added three receptions for 32 yards on his three targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman carried the load with Tevin Coleman sidelined again, but he was mostly bottled up by the Eagles rush defense. Fantasy owners need to make alternate plans in Week 11 with the Falcons on a bye.

  • Posted: 11/3/2016 10:18pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman carried 17 times for 77 yards in the Week 9 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Nov. 3, and he added two grabs for 28 yards on his two targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman remains a must-start fantasy option heading into Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and if Tevin Coleman remains sidelined he should see a lion's share of the touches in the Atlanta backfield.

  • Posted: 10/30/2016 9:47pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hip) carried 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers, and he added four grabs for 23 yards and a score on six targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman was battling a hip pointer going into play, and he was spelled by Terron Ward maybe a little more than he normally would have been if 100 percent healthy. With Tevin Coleman on the shelf Freeman remains a must-start fantasy option across the board as long as he is healthy.

  • Posted: 10/28/2016 1:35pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hip) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 28, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

Huddle Up: Freeman will receive most of the snaps at running back this week with Tevin Coleman ruled out. He probably will be more involved in the passing game as well and should be a starting running back in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 10/27/2016 10:11am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hip) will fully participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 27, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Huddle Up: Freeman is expected to receive a lot of playing time in Week 8 because Tevin Coleman likely will not play because of an injury. Owners in all leagues should considered Freeman as a No. 1 or No. 2 running back this week.

  • Posted: 10/26/2016 2:14pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hip) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Huddle Up: Keep an eye on Freeman's status over the next few days. He'll be Atlanta's go-to guy in the backfield this week if he does play with Tevin Coleman likely sidelined. If Freeman is good to go, he's an RB1 even in a tough matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

  • Posted: 10/23/2016 10:55pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 15 times for 58 yards in the Week 7 game against the San Diego Chargers and he added five receptions for 42 yards on six targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman took over as the primary tailback after Tevin Coleman left the game with a hamstring injury. If Coleman is forced to miss time Freeman would be an outstanding low-end RB1 heading into Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers.

  • Posted: 10/9/2016 8:25pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 23 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos, and he added three receptions for 35 yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman performed very well despite facing a very difficult defense and that's a good sign going forward for his fantasy owners.

  • Posted: 10/3/2016 9:44pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman might be counted upon to carry more of the load in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos if RB Tevin Coleman (illness) is unable to play or limited due to sickle cell trait.

Huddle Up: Coleman might be monitored and limited, so Freeman could see a lion's share of the offensive touches at tailback. It's unfortunate for Coleman, as he is risking illness by playing, and you hate to take advantage for fantasy purposes. But Freeman might see a bump in fantasy appeal as a result.

  • Posted: 10/2/2016 2:28pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. He also caught two passes for seven yards during the game.

Huddle Up: Freeman will continue to share playing time with Tevin Coleman moving forward but has received a majority of the carries during games. He should be considered as a No. 2 running back against most opponents.

  • Posted: 9/30/2016 4:11pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Huddle Up: Freeman will continue to be the starting running back for the Falcons but will share work with Tevin Coleman. He has posted solid numbers in each of the last two games and should be considered a No. 2 running back in leagues even though he will be facing a tough Carolina Panthers defense.

  • Posted: 9/29/2016 6:27pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (illness) missed practice Thursday, Sept. 29, because of an illness.

Huddle Up: Freeman has a few days to recuperate, but his status needs to be monitored heading into the weekend. If he suits up, consider him a low-end RB2 against a tough Carolina defense.

  • Posted: 9/26/2016 9:20pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had 14 carries for 152 yards in the Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 26, and he added five receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman's fantasy owners have been wringing their hands early in the season with Tevin Coleman chipping away at Freeman's playing time. He eased minds with a giant stat line, although Coleman also had a big game under the dome. Freeman remains a low-end RB1 in all PPR leagues, and he is a must-start in every other fantasy format.

  • Posted: 9/16/2016 3:04pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Huddle Up: Freeman likely will remain as the starting running back but could lose some playing time to Tevin Coleman, which will hurt his value. Owners should consider Freeman a risky No. 2 back this week and could bench him if they have better options.

  • Posted: 9/15/2016 9:37pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) was able to practice fully Thursday, Sept. 15.

Huddle Up: Freeman struggled in the opener, and since he could be playing at less than 100 percent, he should be considered a low-end RB2 in Week 2.

  • Posted: 9/14/2016 3:42pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Huddle Up: It is not known if Freeman's injury will keep him out for Week 2, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He rushed for only 20 yards on 11 carries in Week 1 and could lose some work to Tevin Coleman moving forward. Freeman should be considered a risky No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 9/11/2016 8:58pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 11 times for just 20 yards in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he added four receptions for 20 yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman was overshadowed by Tevin Coleman, who had a total of 117 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches. It was almost a 50-50 split for touches and Coleman was much more productive. It's not time for Freeman's fantasy owners to panic after just one game, but it could be a sign of things to come.

  • Posted: 9/9/2016 9:17pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman seems more comfortable this year, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan said he plans to ride the hot hand at running back to keep both Coleman and RB Devonta Freeman fresh.

Huddle Up: Coming off a big year, Freeman is undoubtedly the starter and RB1 candidate, especially in PPR formats. However, it sounds like Coleman could earn his way into a larger role. If you are a Freeman owner, you'd be wise to acquire Coleman as a handcuff.

  • Posted: 8/26/2016 1:10pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for eight yards on five carries in the preseason game against the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 25.

Huddle Up: Freeman will be the starting running back this season but is expected to lose some of his work to Tevin Coleman. He likely will be a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues but should be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

  • Posted: 8/18/2016 8:28pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had four carries for 42 yards and a touchdown in a 24-13 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 18.

Huddle Up: Freeman is unlikely to repeat his numbers from 2015 unless Tevin Coleman misses time. That being said, Freeman should still be considered a high-end RB2 and a borderline RB1 in PPR formats.
