Huddle Up: Freeman is still going through the concussion protocol and needs to be cleared to be cleared before he is allowed to play. Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) remains in the concussion protocol Wednesday, Nov. 22. Freeman, according to a source close to him, feels ready to play, but he has to go through the entire process.

Huddle Up: He looks iffy to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. Tevin Coleman struggled with the lead role last week, but he remains an attractive RB1 if Freeman is out.

  • Posted: 11/18/2017 3:04pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) has been ruled out of the team's Week 11 game.

Huddle Up: Tevin Coleman should receive most of the playing time at running back against the Seattle Seahawks. He can be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in all leagues.

  • Posted: 11/17/2017 2:13pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) did not practice Friday, Nov. 17.

Huddle Up: Freeman was absent from practice both Thursday and Friday putting his status in serious doubt for Monday's game in Seattle. If he is ruled out it would be Tevin Coleman handling the workload, with Terron Ward also chipping in.

  • Posted: 11/16/2017 9:19am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) won't practice Thursday, Nov. 16.

Huddle Up: Freeman is likely out this week, and Tevin Coleman has RB1 written all over him against the Seattle Seahawks.

  • Posted: 11/13/2017 11:13am ET

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Freeman has not been ruled out for Week 11, however, contrary to previous reports. Freeman suffered a concussion in the preseason. He injured his knee against the Carolina Panthers.

Huddle Up: Tevin Coleman has the potential to be featured next week, but we'll need to keep tabs on Freeman's status throughout the week. The good news is that Freeman has an extra day to recover since the Falcons play next Monday night. If Freeman does miss the game then Coleman has RB1 upside even in a tough matchup versus the Seattle Seahawks.

  • Posted: 11/13/2017 8:14am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is unlikely to play in Week 11 after suffering his second concussion of the season. It's possible he could miss multiple games.

Huddle Up: Tevin Coleman becomes an RB1 against the Seattle Seahawks next week. Terron Ward could also be a sneaky flex play.

  • Posted: 11/12/2017 8:49pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman rushed 20 times for 83 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys, filling in nicely once RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) left in the first half.

Huddle Up: Coleman would be the bellcow in Week 11 on Monday Night Football in Seattle if Freeman isn't clear to play, but the good news is that he gets an extra day to make it through the league's protocol. Coleman would be a solid RB2 if Freeman is inactive.

  • Posted: 11/10/2017 2:30pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) practiced in full for a second straight day on Friday, Nov. 10, and he has been removed from the injury report.

Huddle Up: Freeman has been on the injury report for several weeks but he has yet to miss any game time. He remains a solid fantasy option against the league's No. 13 ranked rush defense of the Cowboys.

  • Posted: 11/9/2017 9:41am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 9.

Huddle Up: Freeman hasn't reached the end zone in four straight games. His odds don't look good this week against a Dallas Cowboys team that is tough against the position. Freeman is in the RB1/RB2 turn this week.

  • Posted: 11/8/2017 3:50pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Huddle Up: Freeman has been limited in practice due to an assortment of ailments lately, but he hasn't missed any game time. Double check on Friday to make sure he is playing, but he is likely just taking it easy to preserve himself for game day.

  • Posted: 11/5/2017 2:13pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 11 times for 46 yards in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers and he had four grabs for 18 yards on his five targets.

Huddle Up: You knew it would be a grind for Freeman, as he was up against the league's No. 4 rushing defense entering play. He faces another marquee matchup in Week 10 when the Cowboys come calling.

  • Posted: 11/3/2017 2:10pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (abdomen, shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Nov. 3, for the third consecutive day, but he was removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 9 game with the Carolina Panthers.

Huddle Up: Freeman is a bit banged up and he is facing the No. 4 ranked rushing defense in the NFL, as the Panthers allow just 81.6 yards per game on the ground. Benching Freeman isn't a good idea when he is active, but temper expectations. He might be best used as a low-end RB2 in most fantasy leagues with the tough matchup on the road. Tevin Coleman might also see more touches if Freeman needs to rest more or he aggravates one of his ailments.

  • Posted: 11/3/2017 10:22am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (shoulder) is 'fine' according to head coach Dan Quinn and not be limited in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers.

Huddle Up: Freeman is averaging only 11 carries and has been held out of the end zone since the team's Week 5 bye, so owners could be forgiven if they want to see the Falcons commit to him a bit more before starting him this week. The reality is most owners don't have that luxury of benching him and Freeman is versatile enough to overcome what is a difficult Week 9 matchup versus the Carolina Panthers. Owners should start him as they normally would and hope the team uses him like they did prior to the bye.

  • Posted: 11/2/2017 2:42pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (abdomen, shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 2, with what is now listed as abdomen and shoulder injuries as opposed to neck and shoulder injuries.

Huddle Up: The ailments don't appear to be too worrisome and Freeman isn't believed to be in danger of missing this week's contest. His status will need to be monitored over the next couple of days, but he should still be viewed as a low-end RB1 in PPR leagues.

  • Posted: 11/1/2017 2:08pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (neck, shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Huddle Up: Freeman, as has been the case with the Falcons as a whole, is having somewhat of an off year. That is, at least by his standards and our expectations of him. Even in his down year he has tallied better than 600 total yards and five touchdowns. He's more of an RB2 this week in a tough matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

  • Posted: 10/30/2017 11:29am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (shoulder) will be limited in practice this week as he deals with a shoulder injury, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Huddle Up: The injury doesn't sound serious, so the hope is that Freeman won't aggravate the ailment throughout the week. Freeman needs to be started as long as he's active, but the Carolina Panthers have been an elite fantasy rush defense this season. Expectations for Freeman in Week 9 should be lowered.

  • Posted: 10/29/2017 1:22pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries against the New York Jets in Week 8. He also caught one pass for 20 yards during the game.

Huddle Up: Freeman has gone four straight games without posting at least 75 running yards and has received 12 carries or less in each of the last three games. He will continue to be a main part of the running game for the Falcons and should be considered a No. 2 running back next week.

  • Posted: 10/23/2017 4:34am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran 12 times for 72 yards in a Week 7 game against the New England Patriots. He also caught three passes for 18 yards.

Huddle Up: For the second week in a row Freeman was kept from the end zone, but he nearly accounted for 100 yards of total offense. He remains a solid RB1 selection who should find paydirt again real soon.

  • Posted: 10/15/2017 2:01pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed nine times for 68 yards in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins and he added two receptions for 11 yards on four targets.

Huddle Up: It was Freeman's first game of the season without a touchdown run, as he has managed five scores in his first four outings. He'll look to get back into the end zone in Week 7 in a Super Bowl rematch with the New England Patriots on the road.

  • Posted: 10/1/2017 4:32pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 18 times for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills and he added two receptions for 20 yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman was busy in the run game, especially with the Falcons down Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu for most of the contest due to injuries. You'll need to find alternates in fantasy for Week 5, as the Falcons are on a bye.

  • Posted: 9/24/2017 3:57pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran the ball 21 times for 106 yards in a 30-26 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Huddle Up: Another week, another strong performance for Freeman, who remains an elite RB1 option as long as he puts up numbers like this.

  • Posted: 9/17/2017 9:53pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman carried 19 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2 against Green Bay.

Huddle Up: Freeman was effective in the red zone early in the game, then the team used the back to hammer on the Packers and chew clock with a big lead. He remains an elite fantasy back heading into Week 3 at Detroit and beyond.

  • Posted: 9/10/2017 3:33pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 12 times for 37 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 at Chicago and he added two receptions for two yards on his only two targets.

Huddle Up: Freeman didn't do much for his fantasy owners against a surprisingly stingy Chicago rush defense, but at least he salvaged the stat line with the rushing score. He faces another tough matchup when Green Bay invades Atlanta's new stadium for Sunday Night Football in Week 2.

  • Posted: 8/29/2017 10:55am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is no longer in the concussion protocol and has been fully cleared to return to practice.

Huddle Up: It may have taken longer for him to return that owners would have liked, but the Falcons were always going to be cautious with their new $8 million man at running back. Owners should consider him a high-end RB1 in drafts and a very good play in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

  • Posted: 8/28/2017 5:01pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) has been ruled out for the final preseason game. He was limited to individual drills during practice Monday, Aug. 28.

Huddle Up: Freeman is making progress in his rehab and should be ready for the start of the regular season. He will continue to be a focal point in the team's offense this season and should be considered a No. 1 fantasy running back in all leagues.

  • Posted: 8/24/2017 11:36pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is unlikely to play during the team's final preseason game on Aug. 31, against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Freeman has already been ruled out for the team's game Saturday, Aug. 26.

Huddle Up: More than a month will have passed between Freeman's injury and kickoff in Week 1, so he should be healthy and ready to go. Don't let the injury dissuade you from selecting him as a No. 1 RB.

  • Posted: 8/23/2017 5:12pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) has been ruled out for the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Huddle Up: Freeman is close to returning to practice but will not play in a game until the start of the regular season. He will receive most of the work at running back this season and can be a solid No. 1 fantasy running back in all leagues.

  • Posted: 8/22/2017 10:51am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is in the final stages of the concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Huddle Up: There has generally been little concern about Freeman's ability to be ready for the start of the season, and this falls in line with the news that has been coming out of Atlanta. A strong case can be made for Freeman to be the third running back off the board in fantasy drafts as the only player to rush for at least 1,000 yards and score at least 10 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.

  • Posted: 8/18/2017 12:12pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) will not play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Aug. 20. Head coach Dan Quinn said Freeman's condition is not serious.

Huddle Up: There have been no indications Freeman will much more time. Since Ezekiel Elliott's suspension announcement, there has been some debate as to what running back should be the next one off the board after David Johnson and Le'Veon Bell. Freeman is as good a candidate as any, as he is the only back over the last two seasons to rush for over 1,000 yards and score at least 10 touchdowns both years. The fact he adds 50-plus receptions makes him a rock-solid RB1.

  • Posted: 8/16/2017 7:04pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is expected to go through the concussion protocol over the next few days and could return to practice soon, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Huddle Up: The Falcons should take things slow with Freeman and make sure he is ready for Week 1. Freeman recorded 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and will continue to be a focal point on offense in 2017. He should be a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 8/14/2017 8:33am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) was out of practice Monday, Aug. 14, and he is in the concussion protocol. He has been ruled out for the second preseason game.

Huddle Up: He left practice Sunday due to heat-related symptoms, but it appears the situation was worse than expected. He still has plenty of time to be ready for the season, and he remains a high-end RB1 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 8/9/2017 9:33pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is the only running back to have logged at least 1,000 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in each of the past two seasons.

Huddle Up: After a rookie season to forget in 2014, Freeman broke out in a big way in his sophomore campaign and hasn't looked back, proving to be one of the top running backs in all of fantasy. Although Atlanta has a very capable No. 2 running back in Tevin Coleman, Freeman is still someone worth building your fantasy ground game around, and should be targeted early for plenty of reasons.

  • Posted: 8/9/2017 6:10am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million contract Wednesday, Aug. 9, which makes him the highest-paid running back in the league.

Huddle Up: Freeman is also one of the top backs in fantasy. His 4.8 yards per carry was nearly a full yard improvement from the previous year. There is a little left to be desired in his 1,079 rushing yards, but his usage is tapered by Tevin Coleman's presence. Freeman is a pretty safe RB1

  • Posted: 7/28/2017 1:21pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is talking with the Falcons about a possible five-year contract extension that would make him one of the highest paid running backs in the NFL.

Huddle Up: The two sides likely will talk during camp in hopes of reaching a contract extension. Freeman will receive most of the carries this season and is coming off a 2016 season where he posted 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is part of one of the best offenses in the NFL and can be a No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 7/26/2017 1:50pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman reported on time to training camp Wednesday, July 26, despite not yet receiving a new deal.

Huddle Up: There doesn't seem to be any panic from either side. Expect a deal to be done in the not-too-distant future. Freeman has turned into one of the most versatile running backs in the game and easily has RB1 upside with added value in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 7/24/2017 4:22pm ET

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said he would be happy if the team signed RB Devonta Freeman to a contract extension before the start of training camp Thursday, July 27, but will not worry if the negotiations continue during camp.

Huddle Up: Freeman has a good chance of receiving an extension at some point before the start of regular season, so owners should monitor the situation. He will continue to share time with Tevon Coleman at running back but will see most of the carries. He rushed for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016 and should be a solid No. 1 running back for fantasy owners.

  • Posted: 6/26/2017 1:09pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's potential long-term deal is likely to happen soon, according to owner Arthur Blank. 'He's the kind of person you want to have on your team for all the right reasons,' Blank said of Freeman. It has been reported that Freeman's deal could be done before training camp commences.

Huddle Up: Freeman has turned into one of the better running backs in the NFL even with Tevin Coleman taking away plenty of playing time. Deal or no deal, Freeman is easily an RB1 with PPR scoring and even in standard leagues.

  • Posted: 6/20/2017 11:09am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's possible long-term contract could be done by the first week of training camp, according to a source. Freeman is entering the final year of his current contract.

Huddle Up: Freeman has averaged 13.5 touchdowns over the last two seasons. He managed 13 total touchdowns last season even with Tevin Coleman breaking out and remains a mid-range RB1 with more value in PPR leagues.

  • Posted: 6/16/2017 1:38pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman said he is not focusing on his contract situation but is optimistic that he will receive a contract extension at some point.

Huddle Up: Freeman is entering the final year of his contract, so the Falcons could look to sign him to a contract extension over the next few months. Freeman is one of the better running backs in the NFL in 2016 and will continue to see a majority of the snaps at running back. He should be considered a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 5/20/2017 11:35am ET

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said he is confident that the team will be able to sign RB Devonta Freeman to a contract extension. Dimitroff said talks between the two sides likely will occur around the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: Freeman should receive an extension at some point because he is a big part of the team's offense. He recorded 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016 and should have a similar role this upcoming season. Freeman should be considered a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 5/17/2017 10:11am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman wants to be 'elite paid', according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. 'I want to be the best. I want to be elite paid. Whatever that is, that's where I want to be,' Freeman said.

Huddle Up: It's a bit funny Freeman is giving off the impression he doesn't know how much money the elite backs make, but he is justified in asking to be paid like one of the league's top backs because he is. Le'Veon Bell is the highest-paid back in the league this year making $12-plus million on the franchise tag, while LeSean McCoy and Doug Martin rank second and third at $8.01 million and $7.15 million, respectively. The fourth-year pro is entering his walk year and a rock-solid RB1 in all formats.

  • Posted: 5/16/2017 10:25am ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman said he can't envision himself holding out if contract negotiations were to come to a halt. Freeman has one year left on his rookie deal.

Huddle Up: Freeman's extension is down the road a bit, and it would be a huge surprise to see him wearing something other than black and red for the next several seasons. Splitting touches with Tevin Coleman hasn't hurt Freeman's fantasy value. He's a top 10 back with more significance in PPR leagues.

  • Posted: 4/20/2017 12:38pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is expected to receive a contract extension, but a deal is not anticipated in the near future. It is not likely that the two sides will commence negotiations before training camp and negotiations could spill into the regular season. Freeman has one year remaining on his rookie contract.

Huddle Up: Freeman undoubtedly deserves a big, new extension. He has averaged 1,587.5 total yards and 13.5 total touchdowns over the last two seasons and is comfortably in RB1 territory again this year. He has added value in PPR leagues.

  • Posted: 4/12/2017 2:20pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman said he will participate in the offseason workouts and minicamp even though he is entering the final year of his contract. Freeman is optimistic that he will receive a contract extension before the 2017 season.

Huddle Up: Freeman should receive a new deal at some point and will continue to share playing time with Tevin Coleman in 2017. He finished this season with 1,079 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns and can be a No. 1 running back in most fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 4/8/2017 3:30pm ET

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff expects to address a contract extension for RB Devonta Freeman 'going into training camp,' Dimitroff said an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, April 4. 'We will address this. When you look at our history, we address these situations going into training camp. I?m throwing that out there as a general timeline. I don?t know when that exactly will be, but I?m confident that something can get wrapped up and he?s going to be part of us for years to come,' Dimitroff said.

Huddle Up: The loss of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will hurt the Falcons' offense, but Atlanta has done a good enough job building its talent base on offense in recent years that Freeman should remain a quality RB1 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 3/29/2017 11:33am ET

Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said he is confident that the team will be able to sign RB Devonta Freeman to a contract extension later this year.

Huddle Up: Freeman was ranked in the top 10 in rushing yards (1,079) and rushing touchdowns (11) this season and will continue to receive most of the carries next season. He will continue to share playing time with Tevin Coleman but should be a No. 1 running back in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 3/9/2017 7:16pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's next contract could be tough to negotiate, according to beat writer Jeff Schultz.

Huddle Up: Freeman has established himself as one of the most complete backs in the NFL, and he should be treated as a RB1 in all formats in 2017.

  • Posted: 2/23/2017 2:48pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman produced the best numbers of any backfield combination in 2016. Their main production came in the endzone, tallying a combined 24 total touchdowns. Freeman finished with over 1,500 total yards, while Coleman finished just shy of 1,000 total yards.

Huddle Up: Freeman will be the main guy going forward, but Coleman deserves credit. Despite backing up Freeman, Coleman ended the season as the RB18, one spot behind Lamar Miller and one spot ahead of Todd Gurley. It's hard to imagine they'll have similar seasons, but they have proven that they can successfully coexist. View Freeman as an RB1 with more value in PPR leagues, while Coleman should be drafted as an RB2.

  • Posted: 2/8/2017 5:04pm ET

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 10 of his 11 touchdowns at home this season. He finished the season with 521 yards at home and 558 yards on the road.

Huddle Up: Freeman received most of the carries for the Falcons this season and finished in the top 10 in terms of rushing yards during the regular season. He should continue to be the top running back for the Falcons and should be considered a No. 1 fantasy running back for owners next season.
