The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said WR Malcolm Kelly will be the team's No. 2 wide receiver to begin the season.

The Huddle Take: Kelly replaces Randle El as the No. 2 wideout for Washington opposite Santana Moss this year. He was injured most of last season but could be poised to contribute right out of the gate for a team in desperate need of another quality target in the passing game.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly said his knee is feeling good and reacting well during practice. "I knew once I left my feet for the first time, jumping up to get some balls, that I was back to where I needed to be," Kelly said. "It's reacting well. I just need to take care of it this summer and then go hard when training camp starts."

The Huddle Take: The Redskins have a need at the wide receiver position, so both Kelly and fellow 2008 draft pick Devin Thomas need to step up their respective games this season.

Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly likely will get more playing time after the release of WR James Thrash.

The Huddle Take: The Redskins would like to see Kelly step up, preferably sooner rather than later. But if all they're getting from him is a replacement of Thrash's numbers, that's a poorly-spent draft pick.

The Washington Post reports Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly said he plans to be fully cleared to participate in June's organized team activities. Kelly underwent microfracture surgery in February and was relieved that the procedure was not as extensive as first thought. Kelly said, "They thought they were going to have to microfracture the whole thing. But when they went in they found it had healed up a lot more than they thought, so they just had to microfracture a little part. And I actually had a little bone that they shaved down a little bit, and that really helped out a lot of the stuff. When they went and did that and finally fixed it instead of just trying to clean it up, like the first time, it helped out a whole lot."

The Huddle Take: Kelly and fellow 2008 second-round selection Devin Thomas are being counted on to upgrade the Redskins' receiving corps this year, and it sounds as if Kelly will at least be healthy enough to make a run at contributing.
