Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne is in no danger of losing his starting job at this point, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Henne has looked comfortable during practice and is performing well.

Huddle Up: Of course many onlookers are wondering when third-overall pick Blake Bortles takes over -- that's how it goes with first-round QB draft picks -- but for those looking for backup QBs in deep re-draft leagues right now, Henne is your man.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne has been stellar in the team's first three days of training camp, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Bradley added that Henne looks comfortable and has shown a mastery of the offense.

Huddle Up: Henne is almost certain to begin the year as Jacksonville's starting QB, as the team brings rookie Blake Bortles along slowly. However, Henne is nothing more than a borderline QB2 for fantasy purposes.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne has support within the organization and the team is rallying behind him, according to Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Huddle Up: Veterans typically have the support of their teammates, but Bradley also said that third-overall pick Blake Bortles will get first-team reps in training camp so the outlook could shift if the rook shows well early.

  • Posted: 5/21/2014 12:30pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley reiterated that the team wants to give QB Blake Bortles a year to develop behind QB Chad Henne. 'We really felt comfortable with (Henne) coming back, with a another year in the system,' Bradley said. 'And I think it gave us flexibility. Then when Blake was there available for us, we really wanted to capture that opportunity. We do feel good about where Blake's at, but we feel like this time that he has under Chad - a year to develop - will be really good in the end result.'

Huddle Up: It's a solid plan assuming injuries and fate allow the Jaguars to stick to it. And it's certainly something to keep in mind in redraft leagues, where Henne will have value and Bortles most likely won't.

  • Posted: 5/9/2014 4:11pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said QB Chad Henne will enter the 2014 season as the starting quarterback, with QB Blake Bortles getting a chance to develop without the pressure of having to win games. 'It's such an important position in this league and you want to do it right,' Caldwell said. 'That's what we're about. ... We have to make it work. We can't just throw him out there. We've seen what happens when that happens.'

Huddle Up: Most scouting reports referenced Bortles' need for a year or two of development at the NFL level, and having Henne allows the Jaguars to be patient with their recent acquisition.

  • Posted: 3/7/2014 11:22pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will make $8 million as part of his two-year deal, and the contract includes $4.5 million guaranteed in the first year, according to a league source.

Huddle Up: That's good money for a backup, which is what Henne projects to be with the Jaguars holding the third overall selection and their being three quarterbacks considered top-10 picks in this draft class. At least Henne is a capable backup who won't kill the fantasy value of Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts if he's forced into action.

  • Posted: 1/31/2014 2:45pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said he will reach out to the agent for QB Chad Henne before free agency starts.

Huddle Up: Henne would be a great backup option for the Jaguars, assuming they decide to draft a quarterback. Henne has been more effective than Blaine Gabbert the past two seasons, so bringing him back in that capacity would be a status quo move for the Jaguars--and lately the status quo in Jacksonville hasn't been particularly good.

  • Posted: 12/31/2013 4:01pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said QB Chad Henne could be re-signed before free agency starts.

Huddle Up: Henne is a solid backup quarterback, but on the Jacksonville roster he's too frequently been the best option. Jaguar fans can hope he returns as the backup to a rookie drafted in the first round, but with Blaine Gabbert under contract for one more season that doesn't appear to be the plan.

  • Posted: 10/29/2013 7:58pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will start in the team's Week 9 game, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Huddle Up: No surprise here as Henne will make his 4th straight start and sixth of the season. The Jags, though, still are searching for their first win, and if Henne struggles early in any upcoming game, Jacksonville has nothing to lose by putting in the now-healthy Blaine Gabbert.

  • Posted: 10/23/2013 2:36pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) will be active in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers, but he'll serve as the backup to QB Chad Henne. Henne has outplayed Gabbert by completing 59.5 percent of his passes for 1,222 yards and two touchdowns and five interceptions. Gabbert has completed 48.8 percent of his passes for 481 yards, one TD and seven picks in his three starts.

Huddle Up: This is an excellent sign for the likes of Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon. Henne gives them better chances to score fantasy points.

  • Posted: 10/23/2013 12:17pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will remain the team's starting quarterback, even when QB Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) is healthy.

Huddle Up: This is good news for fantasy owners of Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts.

  • Posted: 10/14/2013 7:57pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (hamstring) will miss Week 7 against the San Diego Chargers, giving QB Chad Henne another start. Head coach Gus Bradley said Gabbert could be out past Week 7, too. 'Blaine will throw on the side (this week),' Bradley said. 'We'll see where it is. It is an injury that may take a couple weeks. We'll get him to start throwing on the side. We'll see when Blaine comes back but right now Chad is our quarterback for the San Diego game.'

Huddle Up: Henne hasn't been able to lead the Jags to a win, but he's clearly a step or 2 above Gabbert when it comes to dealing with pressure, getting the ball downfield and getting the team's best weapons involved.

  • Posted: 9/12/2013 1:58pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley sounded fine with QB Chad Henne talking about playing well and taking the starting quarterback job from QB Blaine Gabbert (thumb, hand). 'That's good - - I would hope he would say that,' Bradley said. 'He's a competitor. That's why we have confidence in him playing. I really want him to go out here and capture this and be at his best. That was our conversation today, 'Don't wait until Sunday to compete.'' Gabbert will miss Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders due to injury.

Huddle Up: Since the start of last season, Henne has averaged far more passing yards per start (252.5-162) than Gabbert -- not including the 354 yards and 4 TDs he threw for in a relief effort against the Texans last season -- helping WRs Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon (when he's not suspended) achieve some fantasy value.

Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne continue to battle for the starting job, with no real clear-cut leader in the race. Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said he is not necessarily disappointed, as long as both continue to improve. 'We look at it is if they're continuing to improve, they're going to continue to stay close. If neither is improving, they're going to continue to stay close,' Fisch said. Head coach Gus Bradley will inform the team Friday, Aug. 16, who will start the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the New York Jets.

Huddle Up: For those who relish NFL QB competitions, Saturday's Jags-Jets matchup is most definitely must-see TV. This week and the always pivotal third preseason tilt should go a long ways in determining the Week 1 starters.

  • Posted: 8/5/2013 11:14pm ET

The Jacksonville Jaguars listed both QBs Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert as No. 1 quarterbacks in their first unofficial depth chart released Monday, Aug. 5.

Huddle Up: The exhibition season most definitely carries some extra importance in J'ville this summer. This is one of the league's true up-in-the-air QB derbies, and their respective preseason game performances will likely be the determining factor in deciding the opening-day starter.
